Honestly, I understand that the screen is more yellow at the bottom, my 23" ACD screen was very similar. My issue is more of a yellow patch that come up the screen in one area. It is VERY light and subtle which is why I am so torn over what to do. When you do the test you notice it, but when I'm just working I barely see it. I think its more of knowing that its there which is bothering me.

I worry if I have the screen replaced I'll get a worse one. I go back and forth, sometimes I see it and sometimes I don't. Which makes me think I'll forget its even there over time.

thanks timgman. your explanation & picture help me alot. im a photographer , so i want to get accurate colors as possible in pictures. im afraid even after i calibrated the lcd the yellow tinge still bothering me.

Well;
it took you 5 times replacement? Just fracking great! (BSG).

I'll start the return process Thur or Friday on my i7 27"...

Glad I have the 2TB ext back-up for Time Machine, still what a PIA.

I just bought a Refurbished iMac 27-inch 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo directly from Apple.com and I've discovered that my screen has a mild case of the yellow tint issue, which I barely notice, but what I do notice is washed-out black levels near all four corners of the screen -- pretty annoying when watching dark scenes in a movie on full screen. If I use a solid black wallpaper, it's easy to tell that the color in these areas is washed out, more gray than black.

Is the replacement process the same for refurbished Macs? I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they're willing to do. I didn't purchase AppleCare, but I only received the iMac on Friday, so I guess it's still within the replacement period. Everything else about the iMac is great, however. I love this machine and it's a shame about the screen.

I have a new 21.5" (this year's week 14 or so I gather from the serial number) and it has a mild but definite yellow tinge in the center, weighted towards the bottom.

Are they being difficult and challenging whether each screen is bad enough to require replacement....... basically, will they give me a hard time?

or are they pretty much going to just replace the screen or do whatever they do to fix the problem without giving me a lot of grief?

Heres a picture of my screen, i can't see any Yellow.

Yes, but they ALL have varying degrees of yellow tint. It's inherent in the design.

When will people just accept the fact that the iMacs are inadvertantly designed with some degree of yellow.

You should either keep it or return it for a refund. Don't bother with replacements. They will all have some screen issues.

This is a cheap all-in-one and its not surprising the screen is less than perfect.

Good luck.

Best screen I've seen so far, thanks for posting. To the previous guys point, yes the bottom is slightly off from the top but its not too bad. Not perfect, but I could live with it.

today I went to the closest Apple store and had one of the reps show me what he thought were typical and acceptable screens for the 21.5" imac. We looked at several of the display models and sure enough, they did indeed all had at least some yellow tint. The Apple guy said he didn't see any though :p

The one I bought is a bit worse than what I just saw in the store, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the bother to get a replacement.

Mostly, it wont matter, except when I'm working on photographs........still, it's a shame. My 5 year old G5 iMac has better color consistency across the screen than this brand new iMac

I can clearly see that the two "gray" bars are entirely different colors. I guess some people are more sensitive to it than others. If you're satisfied with it, keep it. That's the real test.

So today I received my new I5 and... it is the most BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT screen I've ever seen. Now were talking! This is my sixth imac, so I know exactly what to look for on the display.

Yesterday I had another one, which had yellow tint on the center, so I got it exchanged. Today I came home and installed the new I5 and... WHOW. Gorgeous display. Perfect in every way. Really. White is white all over the screen. No dead pixels either. Very very lucky indeed.

1. Had yellow
2. Less yellow
3. Very good
4. Very good too
5. Had yellow
6. Just perfect. PERFECT.

I'm not sure what to make of this:

photo 1: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9...0bottombar.jpg

photo 2: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9628/dscf6485.jpg

Photo 1 and 2 are of the same iMac screen but the results from each of the photos seems to differ. Like photo 1 shows less contrast between bars than photo 2 does. Why is this?

Also, here are left/right bar photos:

photo 3: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8...96rightbar.jpg

photo 4: http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/3...97rightbar.jpg

Why does photo 3 show better results than photo 4? They're of the same screen... maybe I'm missing something, can anybody explain? Not sure how to interpret these results.

Can I ask why did you go with replacing each time? Why not repair? For example, what if everything else is perfect except for the screen, so you decide to replace. Then the 2nd one comes and the screen is also bad, there's a loud hdd or airport card doesn't work right. So you could have repaired the first one for a good screen and left everything else alone and would have a perfect machine the first time, right?

I'll tell you why.

1. Yellow tint and loud hdd
2. Less yellow tint, loud hdd and dead pixel
3. Less yellow tint, VERY loud hd (I bought 2TB)
4. A bit of yellow tint, loud hdd and again dead pixel
5. Yellow tint, but the computer didnt work
6. Perfect screen, no dead pixels, hdd good but not completely quiet. Thinking of buying an ssd...

When I buy a new product, a computer or tv or whatever, I will NEVER send it to repair if it has a problem. I dont like NOTHING AT ALL to be forced to send my new computer to repair. I mean, is it a joke? I expect a perfect computer. I will not send it and be without it a few weeks. To me its ridiculous. I just bought it and i have to send it away? No way!

Why would anyone buy a new product and send it to repair a few days later when you can get a new one? In this case, with the imacs 27, the problem we all have is that we may get a worse computer, but that is not the case with many other computers or whatever. This is all apples fault.

Sure, but if you got the screen and hd repaired to begin with, then it would've already been fixed the first time. I know you're opposed to repairing a new machine but it seems it would've saved you the trouble. This is my current dilemma so I'm deciding this now.

Ive heard many people on these forums and others say that their machines keep coming bad after sending them to repair. Displays keep coming with yellow tint and hds keep coming very loud. I dont really trust them to fix this problem on their repair centers. They will exchange your display or whatever and Im sure they wont even check it before sending it back to you.

And if you change the imac for one new before the 14 days then youll always have the chance of getting your money back if your not completely satisfied. If you send the imac to repair theres no going back.

Do you mind sharing your latest machine week number?

In general, it is not a good thing to have to repair a NEW computer, straight out of the box. A Yugo, or a Lada maybe, but a Mac???
Also, the repair doesn't guarantee to fix the problem the first time over (many can testify to this), but it surely takes the right to replace the computer forever.
Now, make your call.

Its week 14.

Ive had one week 52 if I remember correctly.

Then three week 8 and now two week 14. i waited about a month after giving back my forth imac at the beginning of last month. I decided to look for another solution: mac mini, the new macbook pros, etc. Finally, after a month trying to decide, I came back to the imac, cause i really like it. Got one yesterday, was bad. Exchanged it today and now Im very happy. I'll probably keep this one almost for sure, since the display is perfect. And maybe in a few weeks or months Ill install an ssd and then it'll be the perfect computer.

:)

Can you post a pic? :)

...just want to see what a perfect screen looks like. Not that I doubt you, as it appears you've had several bad units before this one. Would just like to calm my own fears so I can FINALLY buy an iMac. I've been waiting tooooo long all because of this yellow tint issue. Lately, there havent been many if any reports of good screens.

Week 18 us built. My screen is not bad, but not perfect.

Things are looking better...

Week 18 us built. My screen is not bad, but not perfect.

Your screen doesn't look too bad. Maybe the slightest of slight yellow, but if it were mine, I'd keep it.

I feel sorry for those who settled and kept their defective iMac screen. It does indeed look like Apple *may* have solved this.

For those who waited before purchase, you will be rewarded it seems. Let's hope more users post pictures or relate stories of recent week iMacs with unblemished screens.

Thanks for sharing.
