Did all of the screens have the slight grey bar as well?

Do most of the screens still exhibit the horizontal grey bar or shadow running along the bottom, just above the bottom dock area?

So, I received my 3rd replacement Imac today and it too had the yellow tinge and horizontal line at the bottom, worse of the 3. This was from Shanghai and week 15.

the 2nd Imac had less yellow tinge but a noisy HHD, backlight bleeding, two horizontal faded lines at the bottom and scratches cds. this was also week 15 but from czech

I did the software updates and all which did seem to lessen the yellowness but it was still there.

I called apple to arrange for another replacement, he then said it is the first time they have heard of these issues, to which I repeated to him as I knew was not true. I then mentioned the fact that there are many people complaining online about it and this is my 3rd one with the issues. To this he admitted there were problems in the beginning but apple has resolved the issue with updates in the software and the yellow tinge is not an issue anymore. I was getting bored of this so I asked since all the ones i have received where week 15, how about sending one from another week. To this he said he can not offer me another replacement but rather I could either keep my 2nd Imac, since i still have it, or 3rd Imac, or I can get a full refund for the Imac and the printer I bought with it. This was because I was having problems with the computers and it might be due to my location or the delivery or whatever and any that were sent to me would be from the same batch, week 15, and if I wanted another one I would have to have a refund and buy one from the Apple store where they can check the computer before I take it home. The nearest Apple store is 1hour away on the bus and tube.

I wont be in the country next week so I opted for the refund and i will just wait till I get back and hopefully they would have sorted everything out.

Hope they update the Imac range at the WWDC and re-ensure use that the issues are resolved

I BRING GOOD NEWS! My iMac previously had the yellow tint issue, and it drove me nuts, but I didn't see the point in replacing it, but I started getting these weird... dark... spots. On my display (Not the glass, I checked) and Apple replaced the display.

The new display is PERFECT. They checked it in the store, when I got my iMac back, I could tell, because they had changed my wallpaper to a purely white wallpaper so they could test the colour uniformity.

Mind you I got the display replaced at an Apple Authorized Retail Store, not an actual Apple store.

So, what I came here to say is, why don't you guys try getting the display replaced, and not the machine?

After recently purchasing a 27inch iMac (i7) on April 28th, I no longer believe that this issue has been fixed or will be fixed. I also no longer believe that this is a real issue. Let me explain:

I noticed a yellow tinge without attempting the test found on this thread, so I started doing some research and found the test and it made it even more obvious that the bottom half of the screen was slightly more yellow than the top. It also appeared to be brighter near the bottom of the screen.

So I took it back to the apple store and the manager there opened up three new iMacs that all had the same problem. The actual yellow tint varied in intensity, but all of them appeared to be brighter toward the bottom half of the screen. So we went to every mac in the store and ran the same test. 27inch iMac - 21.5inch iMac - 17 inch macbook pro - 15 inch macbook pro - all showed the exact same gradient from top to bottom. Slightly brighter toward the bottom and sometimes slightly more yellow.

So now I'm seriously doubting that there are any Mac products out there that do not have some slight difference when running this test. Has anyone got a 27inch iMac without a slight difference from top to bottom? I doubt it.

Therefore, I do not believe this issue will be rectified any time soon or possibly ever. Seems like it's a product of the technology.

On a side note, oddly enough my 13 inch MacBook Pro seems to not have a difference that I can see when running the test.

This is NOT what I needed to hear after ordering my new MBP 17" last Tuesday. Have any new MBP owners seen this issue yet???

Oh, I did go through that 5 times. On my 5th display I have no yellow tinge (or hardly any) but the gray stripe just above the dock. Plus a couple of dead sub-pixels in every color, but only resulting in one completely dark pixel (and some irritations where only one or two colors fail in one pixel). Maybe some of the dead pixels were generated by wiping the panel several times, since I had to send it to be cleaned TWO freakin' times!!!!!!
Since it's my 5th panel, the repair guy indicated, on another exchange my then ex-panel would be scrutinized and be found "within specs" (since they allow for several dead pixels on a display if they are not in the center area) and I would have to pay for this exchange in the end. So now I'm still not a satisfied customer, just at the end of the flagpole.

IMHO exchanging the panel gives you no better chance of receiving a good panel but voids your chance to further exchanging the whole machine or getting a refund. Depending on your location, getting a refund is near impossible anyway.

So for the time I possess the machine, I will be grudging over it's screen (this will take long, since I can't sell it a good price with this display). I also continue to advise anyone NOT to buy a current iMac. Or at least do it at Apple directly, so you can exchange/refund it with the least hustle.

My new 17" hi res i7 mbp has no yellow tint whatsoever and very uniform in brightness.

So it looks like the iMac story repeats itself: Some screens are flawless, some are yellow tinged.

Where in all this is Apple quality control, if I may ask?

Bought a new 27 inch imac today thinking this yellow screen business had been fixed. I even asked the guys at the genius bar if it was still an issue (they said no).

heres my screen. How bad is this compared to the others? I'm considering just putting up with it.

The question is not "where is quality control" - but "what deems Apple is appropriate quality for their customers"?

All the machines left the factory checked and "within specs". I guess nobody at Apple would have guessed that their customers would be so picky about screen color, since the displays are superb concerned backlight intensity and evenness of brightness. The most promoted fact is that "your movies will look great on them!" Holly Jolly, who only watches movies on their computer as it's main purpose?

Even if the tinge would not hinder most people in doing their smallish "work" with the family photos and videos (such as me) - they (me that is) feel betrayed since you can have lots of cheap displays (not with IPS technology, but who cares if the color is OK?) and combine them with any given other PC. And I feel I cannot sell this machine at any good resale-value, which was part of the equation going to a Mac in the first place.

If I look hard I can see a yellow in the centre and the bottom. The litmus test is whether or not it grates on your nerves.

I don't think any of us, having paid this much for a computer, deserve to be anything less than 100% happy with our computers.

You are missing ~7% of the blue in the low, left corner.

Hi all, I've just bought a Mac Mini, wireless keyboard and magic mouse off eBay. Saved about AU$200, and a Dell screen which had cash-off and I got a coupon so I ended up saving $70 for the 23-incher. So in total I paid about $1250. My intentions were to use this until the next iMac comes out, I guess it's gonna be around about September.

Then I realised I should've gotten a refurb base spec 21" iMac for $100 more though my original budget was $1000. So I guess it was a bad purchase anyhow, though I get a larger and a better screen. My mate has one of those screens and it has perfect uniform colours. I'm not so sure if a refurb iMac would resell well a couple of months later and plus I might get a dodgy screen again.

:| meh... I just wish my 1st iMac back in March was perfect...

and a Dell screen

Did you get the Dell ST2310? Looks like a sweet monitor, only 1920x1080 though. ;)

Are you planning to sell everything or just the MacMini and keep the screen to dual screen with the (future) iMac? Dual screening would be awesome! :D

+1 me too... :(

yeah mate, it's that model. Not a real fan of Dell but it was on special, so that was probably the only reason I bought it. I was looking for anything from full HD and it had 16:9 ratio as well so I think it's good enough for this setup. I was thinking about the ST2210, but then it cost only $17 more.

I'm probably gonna sell everything when I get an updated and problem-free iMac. I think I can resell at a good price as I bought everything about 15-25% cheaper than normal prices. I've never really thought of dual screening an iMac as I live at uni, so it would be a bit of an overkill in the room. lol.

I guess anyone looking for a "temporary" machine could: (A) do something like this, (B) hackintosh a PC, or (C) get a base refurb 21" iMac.

All of these options would save you some money when reselling, though I doubt the resale value of option B would be high, but you can build it to match the iMac specs and stick with it. I guess if you're selling a refurb iMac, as long as the buyer doesn't know you'll get a good price (though never sold one before).

Too bad there's no refurb Mac Mini in Australia, otherwise I could've gotten a sweeter deal and a free printer.

Just got my Refurb imac i7, and I think I'm seeing yellow...

Today was my first day to actually use my new(reburb) imac. I've only had it for about 4 days. And I noticed right away there was a faint yellow discoloration in the lower right quarter of the screen, but just very subtle and faint.

So I'm thinking I should call Apple and find out if they can replace the screen, but from what I'm reading on here it seems people have their screens replaced 2 or 3 times and still have the yellow problem. Will the yellow go away eventually?

I took a pic to see if maybe my screen isn't bad as I think it might be. Any advice would be must appreciated.

Thanks.

Will the yellow go away eventually? No. The best you can do is just not pay attention to it, mask it with an image of some sort, or complain to Apple. As far as a replacement, you'll probably be able to get one, but you'll be playing russian monitor roulette, and could very easily end up with a monitor that's significantly worse.

I've gone through multiple exchanges and repairs, and it's still yellow. I honestly could see them just exchanging one bad display with another just because. And my last repair didn't look any different from my previous one. I honestly wonder if it more like they pretended to just wait a day and did absolutely nothing with my display. Sorry about this conjecture, I'm just absolutely disgusted with Apple and their quality control from this whole iMac debacle.

Some people reported getting "the perfect screen", eventually (or so they claim). I think replacing all computer was slightly more effective (fewer exchanges), but don't quote me on this, I don't have any meaningful statistics. I think the best hope to this problem being solved once and for all is line refresh, but there is no guarantee. On the bright side at least Apple recognized this problem is real.

I'm waiting for my new order of an i7 from MacConnection. It's a week 16 built in USA. SN:SQP016....

btw, is that S in the SN mean a special order?

Got my week 16 USA made i7 and.... IT'S YELLOW!!!! DAMN IT!

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model:00009CB5
Serial Number: 00000000
Manufacture Date: C67AE380

Returned my yellow screened imac at the apple store today. Had them open up a new computer to test it before I bought it but it was slightly yellow too. One of the two floor models looked decent but they wouldn't let me have it for some dumb store policy reason.

The whole time the store manager was dickish and it pissed me off.

I'm hoping if I wait a few months and try again I can get a new computer. Thats assuming apple actually cares about fixing the damn things.
