Here you go. I think this one looks better in the pics than my other ones. The tint doesn't seem as dark as the others except maybe on the left edge
.........

These screens look VERY color uniform indeed, except on the very left top corner (~5% blue missing) and left bottom corner (~4% too much green). Most of the screen is extremely uniform, I have never seen so uniform grey before.

There is a darker band along the bottom of the screen, in the usual position. The grey level is varying across the screen in the usual way (which is probably due to slight directivity of the screen and short focal length of the camera lens).

Overall it is an excellent news. Now let's wait for a few more units to be tested

Early in the game, until early Spring I'd say, the yellow tint issue seemed to be much more rampant. It wouldn't be uncommon to hear of folks returning faulty iMacs three or four times and then just giving up. I can say that since then I have heard of very, very few cases and the images I've seen showing the tint have been minor or even trivial. I share Tom's sense of confidence now. I'm not letting that fear stop me from getting the BTO i7.

Thank you for doing that I don't know how haha. Were the pictures good enough or do you want me to post some more from further away or something? I've gotta run but ill check back later tonight and post some more pics if you want

It is there but it is a lighter tint than the left side and lighter than both the imacs I returned before this one.
.....

Could you take a picture of the screen with the longest focal length on your camera (you have some decent zoom, right?). You would need to do it in a dark room (as dark as can be) and move away from the screen as far as is needed. Uniform grey is perfect. Would it be also possible to hide all the icons?

Tom B.

Yeah it's like an 800 dollar lens it's either 10 or 20x zoom. I had to go to class I'll take a picture when it gets dark later tonight with the desktop background set to gray and move all the folders. Thanks man I appreciate it check back in 4 or 5 hours I'll have them up

This yellow screen thing is the only thing holding me back from ordering.

If it's become less aparant over the last few months, then atleast they're doing something about it. It would help my confidence.

How widespread is this problem now?

I see the yellowing on the side and the dock shadow.

Still, mine was so bad that anything on the lower half of the screen absolutely could not display a cool white under any situation. I think I could live with yours.

My first two were that way on the bottom, this ones yellow tint is a lot lighter but the yellow all the way up the middle of the screen is annoying I couldn't see it in the pictures earlier but I can in these pics.

I took the liberty of running your image through Photoshop. The only adjustment I've done (apart from a resize) is Image>Adjustments>Equalize. For those who don't know, this is an effective way of highlighting imperfections in an image, for example, dust spots when editing a digital photo.

Whilst the results are obviously highly accentuated, note the infamous grey bar is still 'there', as is a certain amount of light bleed around the edges.

However, as long as the screen looks good under 'normal' use conditions, I guess that's really all that matters?

wow the left side is really bad that picture is crazy. I am leaning toward keeping it though I don't really do any photo work and it's the best of the 3 I have got I don't want to take it back and end up worse off

Yep, both are very nice uniform grey across the screen, with the darker band at the bottom and slight discoloration along the edges (this time slightly yellowish on the very left edge and a tiny bit greenish - ~3% - in the right bottom corner).

This results may differ from the previous series, since the viewing angle of the screen corners is different.

The darkening away from the screen center (all 4 corners) is much smaller, than in the first series (~5% versus ~20%). It probably come mostly from the effect of the lens light falloff (usually smaller at longer focal length).

Overall, again, it looks like a nice, uniform screen.

Do not worry, everything looks bad, if you amplify the effects (done to see the problem areas). Your screen is good.

I'm seeing the columns of yellow tint in the center (right edge is near the cursor) and left side which are similar to the issues I had with the 27" iMacs that I received and returned earlier this year (as opposed to yellow tint at the bottom of the screen). Below is a better enhancement of the tint by increasing saturation.

I didn't expect a radical redesign in the backlight system, but was hoping for some improvement.

Absolutely horrible. Is this the latest June 2010 iMac?
The first two mid 09 models I bought looked like this. The third one I am currently on is fine. I am so glad to have acquired a decent screen.
The 2007 models were much much worse. I have only seen good ones on the net, never in real life...and I have looked for quite some time.

Thanks for checking out my pics guys. Kavik, the pic u posted is the closest to the way it looks in person I don't know why the yellow in the middle doesn't show up in my pics but it is pretty obvious in person. I guess I'll wait to see what other peoples experiences are, I really don't want to return it and get one that is worse

OK, you are right, I was a little bit too fast with the picture P1010099.jpeg, testing it in the VERTICAL direction only (and the grey is uniform this way) and I didn't noticed discoloration in the horizontal direction (still, it is just ~3.5% of blue missing, which is not too bad, but not great either).

On the other hand if you test the P1010097.jpeg, it is really totally uniform grey, except for the very edges, all you can see is the circular light falloff.

There is obviously the darker band and light bleeding at the bottom of the screen, almost identical for both pictures. This thing didn't go away with the refresh models at all.
So things are not so great with the new iMac models after all, but we still have to wait and see a few more screens to really pass the final judgement.

Why did you have to rain on my parade? Just when I was thinking, that maybe, just maybe this thing really went away? Why?

Just kidding...

I had a closer look at the P1010098.jpeg and this one doesn't have yellow vertical bands, just lighter vertical bands... How much time passed between taking these two shots?

Haha you had me excited for a minute too. I really don't mind the edge being yellow or the gray bar on the bottom its just the damn middle that is bugging me

pics 98 and 99 were taken at the same time and same spot I just zoomed out a little on one of them. 97 was taking earlier in the day when the room was bright and i wasn't zooming at all

I think I was too impressed with the P1010097 to see clearly the rest:).
But overall it sucks.
