Hmm, in the event of today's iMac refresh, a pressing question would be "Will the new iMacs' screens still have the yellow tint?"

I second this, but we'll have to wait and see (didn't seriously expect any note on this subject in the "iMac at a glance" section).

yeh!! I really want to know too, If not, I'll decide to buy it by tomorrow:)

I don't want to wait more. :(

I cannot imagine there will be much of a difference, only if there has been major internal changes that would allow fixing whatever it can be that generates this. If this was easy fixable it would have been done silently during production of the previous gen.

I am kind of optimistic about it, mostly because they introduced a new display (also 27", also 2560x1440 and also LED) at the same time. This signals a lot of confidence (I hope).

My new one is yellow on the left side and right in the middle of the screen and it has the gray banding on the bottom above the dock. I returned two last month and decided to wait for the refresh hoping it would be fixed but I guess it isn't. this one is just as bad as the first 2. Has anyone else noticed yellow on their updated iMac?

You say new one-what is the build date?

I'm not sure that when you refer to this "new one" that your machine is the Imac refresh just announced yesterday. When was your machine built?
Thanks

as in new one that was released yesterday built week 80. I posted pics of one of the ones i got last month a few pages back. This new one is just as bad it is kind of a W shape.

It is yellow on both edges, especially the left side and then a big blotch that goes up about 3/4 of the screen in the middle. The other two that I returned didn't have the yellow as high up they were only on the bottom half.

Does anyone know from experience the turnaround time it takes for Apple to get a new iMac to you if it's BTO? Can you even take it to the store or do you do the whole exchange via mail?

I'm really nervous to order a new (upgraded) iMac and have to wait a month (or more) to use it if I get a couple of machines with yellow tint issues.

store.apple.com and the B&M Apple Stores have separate inventories, from what I understand. If you buy online, you return via mail. Anecdotally, I've heard of them making exceptions, but I don't know how common that is.

1. Are you sure that you got the REFRESHED model?
2. Could you post a picture of a white, or a gray screen (or both)?

Here is the first part of the serial number W8025E and it says ATI Radeon HD 5750 under graphic displays in system profiler haha it better be the new one.

I might just keep this one unless no one else is having the issue then I might take it back again.

I'll post some pics in a few minutes tell me what you think.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty nervous about spending so much money and having to return it repeatedly. Can anyone take a wilde guess on the likelihood I will encounter this issue? 50/50?

Here you go. I think this one looks better in the pics than my other ones. The tint doesn't seem as dark as the others except maybe on the left edge

Strange because W8025 is a build week earlier in year?

This is strange because the new Imac was introduced yesterday and your build week is from June, I believe. Of course if this is the upgraded video card it does sound odd.
How did you get this computer since yesterday? Are they already in the Apple Stores? If so, that grey band and the yellow you are talking about are discouraging.

How frustrating! I have been so curious as to whether the yellow tinge issue would be addressed with the new iMacs.. I had yellow tinge going down the center of the screen on the majority of my 2009 iMacs, and it was a dealbreaker for me. Frustrating that this issue still has not been addressed...

Yes, the new iMac's were available in stores yesterday.

I can see the dock shadow, but it isn't terrible. I can't really detect any yellowing.

My (returned) Week 45 i5 had much, much more obvious yellowing.

I think I'm going to jump on the BTO i7 instead of the i5.

For the life of me I don't understand why there must be this grey band on the bottom of so many screens. It is a bit difficult to make out the yellowing you are referring to. I do see some yellow on the left bottom but not jumping out. Perhaps it's the quality of the photos.

Yeah the yellow isn't as easy to see as my other ones. Its pretty obvious in the middle of the screen when i move a gray or white window around but I don't really notice it in the pics. The very left edge is pretty yellow almost all the way to the top though. The gray band doesn't bother me really at all, it's just the yellow tint in the middle when I'm on sites like macrumors that are gray and white that pisses me off

I just wanted to let you guys know that the screens will still probably have some problems. I will probably keep this one. If I don't see anyone else posting in this thread complaining about the new ones maybe I'll go for one more switch though.

The yellow thing is holding me back a bit, €2500 is a lot of money for a not so perfect screen.
Hope other reports are nicer.

I agree I don't see the yellow in the pics like I did on my other ones and I took the pics the same way with a panasonic gh1 both times. I promise there is some yellowing in the middle too though haha. I'm glad I took the pics I was thinking this one was as bad as my others until I compared the pics.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I look forward to other results with the refresh of the Imac posted here..
Thanks

But if you are saying that it is obviously yellow especially in the middle where you use the computer (more on white or grey background) that sounds as if at least the problem has not been resolved. Or it can't be resolved as of now.

It is there but it is a lighter tint than the left side and lighter than both the imacs I returned before this one. I dunno I keep going back and forth on whether to pack it back down to the apple store or not. The pictures made me feel better but the whole middle of the screen is obviously a little warmer when I read through your comments with the window full screen.
damn apple the issue is not resolved either way that is for sure :( lol
