As just judging by the picture alone, that looks alot worse than my screen. I it (yellowing) noticeable even under regular light? Mine is practically gone just from lowering my brightness level, no stuck pixels or dead pixels.

You might want to post some pics from further away and under normal light to gauge better.

Judging by your pictures I don't think any amount of adjusting the brightness would help.

I would take it back.

Yes it's noticeable under bright light / dark light and at a range of screen brightness settings. I'm going to the apple shop tomorrow and just hope they agree with me there and then that this is not acceptable and offer me an exchange.

I increased contrast by a factor of 5 using Photoshop (Input levels 120 to 183) and here is the result.

Does it look to anybody like there is some corrugated paper inside the screen?

Cheers, that really proves there is a problem with mine.

I'll add this pic to the "evidence" file I'll show the genius tomorrow.

Oh yeah, one quick question - if I get this exchanged/refunded and re-purchased - will I have to pay the 10% restocking fee?

I shouldn't right?

Yeh, i have some questions about the restocking fee too.

It i get a defective imac, within the 14 days there's no restocking fee right?
And if i get a replacement, i will get another 14 days to return it or exchange it if it's defective again?

Tkx.

Wow. I went through six replacements with my 24" iMac because of yellow tinted screens.
I finally accepted the flaw and tried to live with it. It has sadly gotten worse over time and I never really learned to live with it.
So I've been thinking about getting a new 27", because surely they must have fixed that issue with the new LED screens and all. I pop on to this forum and what do I see? Three threads about yellow tinted iMac screens.

I am amazed that Apple has managed to get away with this flaw on so many computers for three years now. Now I'm not sure what to do.
I'd rather not go through the replacement hell I went through the last time.

Went to the Apple store today - they had never heard of a restocking fee...I'm in the UK if that makes a difference?

Anyway, because I'm within my 14 days they said just to call Apple and arrange for them to send a new one and pick the old one up. So that's what I did and it took 10 minutes to organise, they were very helpful on the phone. My new iMac 21.5 base should ship within 24 hours.

The guy at the store did offer to repair it there, but said I may as well order a new one. He said it would take 5-7 days to turnaround the repair so it would be quicker to re-order. Unfortunately, as I ordered online he couldn't do the exchange for me in store but all in all both in the store and on the phone they have been very helpful.

Don't use this poll if you are looking for yellow tint issues with the new mid 2010 iMacs due to this poll being as old as it is. For a more accurate picture of how things are faring with the new iMacs, check into the following updated thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/983886/

Just got my 27" iMac. I am not the best judge when it comes to monitors. Any experts care to give their opinion? I am feeling good about it at the moment. Not seeing anything to scream about. I have been staring at computers all day so my eyes need a rest.

On the picture it looks like the very right side (~10%) is ~1.5% red (almost unnoticeable). This picture looks good IMHO.

Thanks Tom. If I remember correctly you have had quite a bad run with your iMac screens. Has that been worked out? I am feeling quite good about this machine.

No problem at all.
I am still sitting on the fence with the purchase, considering also other options.
But your screen looks good, made me want it, hopefully it will stay like this with time.

Hi! I just started up our brand new 21.5" iMac and did the yellow screen test. This is what I got at 50% brightness (camera shot close range in dark room). I overlaid the extreme right near the left for better comparison. Looking at the screen without the camera, the right side, especially lower corner, shows slight yellow tinting. It's subtle, and using full brightness fades it considerably, though I can still see it. So, is this worth a trip to the genius bar, in case it might get worse? I could probably live with it at this level, as I'm only a hobbyist with digital photography. What should I put in the poll above if it's not really that bad? My eyes are so tired out now from staring at the screen, that it all looks "dingy" to me -- and yet I'm thrilled to have finally upgraded from our 2004 iMac, so want to focus on the positives. Thanks in advance for any input! I don't trust my opinion on this anymore...

It is hard to put any numbers on this screen, since there is a huge presence of something, which looks like two superimposed sets of Newton rings on the screen. Are they actually visible on the screen (then I'd say RUN back to the store), or is it an effect coming from the screen - camera combination? Also, none of the grey shades are really neutral, but this could be also an effect of poor white balance coming from the camera.

The right side is visibly warmer, than the left, but it is hard to put number on it (~~5%), since everything seem to vary.

Thanks, Tom!

Is there a better way to capture the screen and post it? Just a link to instructions will do. I tried some more variations below. Overkill? The room now has some ambient light in it, even with shades down. So used a dark blanket over me and the monitor in some shots. Starting to feel silly now...

Those funky rings from earlier are combo effect, not to the naked eye, thankfully. As to the grey shades not being neutral, I'm inexperienced in "white balance" camera settings, just did auto on my Canon Powershot, no flash. The screen doesn't always appear stark white, sometimes "dingy" but it's hard to say to what to attribute it.

Maybe this isn't so bad? Is 5% diff something to live with? Should I vote "yellow tint" in the poll? What do you think the apple store people will say?

Thanks for any additional input!

Always learning,
Amanda :)

Oh, BTW, serial number is WQ0233*****

A good trick with the blanket!
I just had a look at #3 and #4. This screen is good (i.e. I could live with one like this). In both cases there is a slight yellow (~2%) on the very right edge of the screen (last ~5% affected) and also slight cyan (also ~2%) on the very left edge of the screen. The center 80% of the width is very nice uniform (and neutral this time). Try to check if it looks the same at higher temperatures (a few hours of some video encoding, gaming, or even operation at high brightness would do). Hope it stays like this.

Thanks so much! I just downloaded iStat Nano to track my temps too. So much to learn here. Love this forum! Amanda

How about gray banding? Did any of the 27"-users notice it?

If there are at lease some devices without it now (not one of the 27"s of the old series was NOT affected by it (about 10 devices)), i'd get one right away.

I can live with a small yellowish taint, but NOT with that banding i had on my 3 27" iMacs that were all sent back.

How does this 27 inch iMac display look?

I can see very obvious yellow all across the bottom. The top and bottom grey bars dont match.

Seriously consider saving up a little extra and exchange it for a mac pro. You can choose your screen and the Mac can be upgraded in so many ways. I returned 3 iMacs before doing this.... Best Mac i've ever bought.
