Got my base 21.5 imac today (8 days in shipping=pretty slow). Funny thing is they said they were going to split my order up so I didn't have to wait for the printer (out of stock), and the printer arrived on tuesday!

anyhow, my imac has the yellowing on the bottom-right (and a few "splotches of yellow"). Also has numerous largish dust particles behind the glass. Otherwise it's great ! :)

lol.. kinda depends on whether someones already viewing it on a yellowish screen
iIm not gonna say what I think as i think its really down to how you perceive the screen.
I knew about the issues and purchased an i7... now to me the screen looks absolutely perfect and even all over when white etc etc ... however, if you are going to present images online then you will get some people who perceive there to be possible issues and I aint taking that change to make someone doubt myself and stare at the screen for so long until I perceive an issue!!

Please, if you are happy with the display and it looks even to you then be happy.
Did you post because you think there are issues?

Damn, it really does seem the 21.5"'s suffer from the yellowing more than the 27"'s.

Btw, i just read this: is it confirmed the brightness whistle is software related?

Yes and No!

It is dependend on the frequency of the LED backlighting or it's energy supply (the dimming is actually kind of a fast on/off circuit).

It will be different between Mac OS, Windows and Linux because the settings for brightness behave different. 50% brightness setting in Win is not equal in Mac OS.

The experience seems to be different here. On my machine I could only dim the display to a level that would have been like 30% on MacOS. So 50% Windows was more like 65% setting on MacOS. So the noise was different. In my case it was LOUDER on Boot Camp than on OSX.
Another guy (I posted on that matter in the Apple Forums but lost that link) had the other way round: No whistle on Windows, hard whistle on Mac.

However, together with my 5 display I also got some cable to the backlighting exchanged (2 times). I now got a machine that is nearly quiet, but I also had one configuration where it was unbearably and clearly defective loud in any setting.

I hope I was of any help,
SuAlfons

i posted because i was browsing the forums and found this thread
but i kinda think i see yellow along the bottom of the screen

It's not a perception issue, fanboi, these screens are junk. It's a hard pill to swallow for long-time apple users that are used to a certain level of quality. But to me, these displays have "wal-mart" written all over them. (The rest of the machine seems like the quality we are used to.

The least Apple could do if they insist on these $5 screens is to change the bootup background (and the Apple website) to something other than a white background <g>. The problems are "there" instantly.

...yellowing, grey banding, dead pixels, dust, edge light bleed....yeesh. It's like every problem one *could* encounter with a screen, LG & Apple has managed to pull off!!!

Oh well. I am thinking perhaps we'll all just have to get used to this "new quality level". Obviously there are many who accept it, as Apple is in no hurry to change things.

"fanboi", dont be a **** and so condescending - these screens are clearly not $5... doh. I am an IT professional who has worked with Microsoft machines for nearly as long as they have been around and only recently bought a mac mini to try apple then upgrade. I'm no "fanboi"... i like OSX and the applications but I see plenty of areas for improvement. If someone "sees" a problem then fine but if they dont why post on here just so tards can assess it and make them feel bad about their new machine? Seems to me ur trolling!

Great News From Mac World!

"Some customers who bought a late 2009 iMac complained of yellow-tinted displays. To see if the new iMacs had similar problems, we used a yellow-tint test created by a reader at MacRumors. We weren’t able to notice a tint or color shift with the week-old iMacs in our lab, nor did we notice anything wrong when we tested our older 27-inch 2.66GHz Core i5 iMac from late 2009.

Looks like the pattern we're seeing here is positive for both current refurbs and refreshes.

Bottom right corner is having ~7% blue deficiency, when compared with the top left corner (which is reasonably neutral). Mind you, this is a TOTAL of screen and the camera (and adjacent light, if any).

sorry but Im gonna point out this thread is getting a bit anal....
we have people posting pics and people analysis the colours and its oh so much a % of the wrong colour yadda yadda..

If yours good with no apparent problems then great.. if it annoys you then call them up and get it sorted..

so is my screen fine or should i get a replacement and would it get worse overtime?

You have to decide if it bugs you, or you can hardly see it, and act accordingly.
As per changes in time, there is almost no (i.e. I don't recall any) posts along the line "it was good, but now I can't take it anymore", so you are probably OK.

Read this gizmodo article

In the section what could be wrong, they discuss the problem and say it may be caused by the handling of the computers. this would mean the problem cannot be identified in the factory.

I've not heard this theory before, what do you guys think?

Stupid quality control anyway.
Yellow screens, whats next? Purple screens? Because apple can identified it if they want to. They lazy because it cost money. A lot of money.

If you read the article you'd see it seems to hypothesis that it is a problem caused by handling of the goods in shipping. I don't really get your point about stupid quality control and it costing apple money. What would it cost to tell the shipping company to stop throwing the boxes around?

"They lazy because it cost money" I don't think laziness and expense are really correlated.

Looking good so far on my new 21.5 I3 , the screen looks good from all the tests I have done.
My first Mac and enjoying it, although like all forums no matter the product one can get a little paranoid reading all the horror stories.
Regards Geoff

Btom will you check these pics for me. all three are zoomed in from about 15 feet away and I took them at the same time

I returned my other one today it went smooth but I didn't have to deal with anyone that knew me so I didn't tell the genius bar guy that I had already returned 2 lol

I think this is the best screen out of the 4 I have had, It has the gray bar pretty bad at the bottom and maybe a little yellow at the bottom right and at the top just to the right of the middle. I might just be seeing yellow cuz I'm trying so hard. Either way it seems way better than my other ones overall, no obvious yellow blotches.

I got stuck with a seagate hdd again hopefully it won't be as loud as the last one

jicka- the screen looks good. But Tom is good at testing.

BTW. I was just on the other thread of people who just got refurbs and they didn't sound too promising. :(

Ya I'm keeping it either way I just wanted him to test them to see if there is any. This is the first one of 4 that I cant really see any yellow and I don't mind the gray bar.

I wouldn't buy a refurb, I'm sure that's where all the returns go and I doubt they switch out the screens. I would recommend to anyone getting an iMac to do it at an apple store if possible cuz it isn't much of a hassle to switch it out if you end up with a bad one.

What exactly is the ''gray bar''?

Is it on all 2010 models ?

It is a light gray shadowy bar that runs all the way across the bottom of the screen about 2 inches from the bottom. All 4 (2 2010's & 2 2009's) of mine have had it, some worse than others though. It is not on all of them though
