I think it is important to know whether this screen is from the newer refresh Imac 2010, or the older model (2009)?
Nah, it's about 9 months old. In everyday use I don't notice any problem and to tell the truth had I never seen this thread I never would have known about it. I suppose I could drag it to the Apple Store but I'm more concerned that a new display can have other anomalies and there's no guarantee it would be yellow free. As a matter of fact I was at an Apple Store a few days ago and checked the display of a revised 3.2GHz and the bottom gray was definitely darker than the top.

My "refresh" iMac has not only the grey bar but also a yellow tinge along the lower left-ish portion. At this point I am giving up on the iMacs.

Posted this in the other "problems" thread but just in case you don't read that:

Just received my REPLACEMENT 21.5" i3 base model from the one I bought last week and I've got a lovely sphere of yellow coming from the bottom of the screen about a third of the way in on the right hand side.

Apple being the lovely people they are also gave me the joy of having a wonderful "dog whistle" high pitched noise when I put the brightness up, how brilliant of them.

Its going back and they are sending me a new one.

Third time lucky...if not then I'll just be getting a refund and be done with it.

Annoyed.

Just received my 27" i7 refurbished iMac (UK). It has a yellow tint over the bottom third of the screen. Can't believe a refurbished product was shipped in this condition.

I'm returning it to apple and have ordered a replacement.

You guys, very funny and sucks!too much addictive about yellow ting. Wanna to buy a microscope ,maybe it'much more help for your guys

Just got my mid-2010 27" 2.93 i7 and I have the yellow tint PLUS the grey banding at the bottom

The yellow tint I could probably tolerate but the ugly gray band is unacceptable. About to call Apple and get a replacement, any advice?

Was it a new one?

Mine has yellow that is becoming stronger with use. Just got it last Friday. 21.5 1499 model. Also has the dog whistle, but I can confirm that that goes away when running Windows, so there is something else going on besides just hardware.

Not going to return it though. They are ALL LIKE THIS people, and I need something fast for dev and audio work. There really just isn't a better choice unfortunately, but I can't help but think the resale value on this thing is virtually nil, unless it's to a clueless person.

Sure there is....Get a mac pro

So, you think it is just an iMac problem and they do a great job on other products? Why they would do that?
I think it is too many cut corners and not always top notch engineering and not enough prototype testing and poor quality suppliers and poor QC and "if you build it, they come" attitude. Those things spread across the corporation (hallo, antenna design?).
Or maybe I am a victim of my own expectations ("hey, get a Mac" hype)?

I think I'm going to return mine in the next couple days. Not only is my screen yellow with the gray band but the hard drive is way louder than the other too I had. I wouldn't care too much if it was just one issue but the gray, yellow tinge and a loud ass annoying HDD is too much.

I received my brand new 2.93 i7 27" iMac and its flawless. No yellow, no dead pixels, no backlight bleed through. Its beautiful.

Posting my picture just to give everyone a heads up. I've already called Apple for a replacement. *sigh*

Besides the yellowing, I love the machine!

Damn, it really does seem the 21.5"'s suffer from the yellowing more than the 27"'s.

Btw, i just read this: is it confirmed the brightness whistle is software related?

Does anyone know if the amount of yellowing changes over time? I'm just curious is anyone has kept his/hers yellow iMac and experienced any changes?

I think the iMacs have a screen issue that is not going anywhere with the current LED technology. I also agree with you and think the Apple of years ago when there products "just worked" are long gone for the most part.

I did some soul searching and a laptop + external monitor combination looks more and more appealing to me. Check CG241W from EIZO for example.

My 27" i7 refurb arrived this afternoon. Other than a couple of unexpected bumps while reinstalling OS X, so far so good. Both my wife and I were concerned about the size, but once setup on my desk, it's not bad at all.

Would love some feedback on the yellow tint issue on my display. Three pics attached, taken with a basic PowerShot 600. Some ambient light, but not too much. Screen brightness set at 25%, 50%, and 75%, respectively.
