05/01/10 est dispatch 11/01/10 est delivery :(

So I got my dates for my replacement 27" i7 and I was a bit cheesed as the rep made out that they would get it out quick. I dont think reporting a prob on the 15th Dec and getting to the final outcome on "est" 11th Jan quick.

But I kin keep my "operational" iMac till the new ones delivered which is good cos I kin go ahed now and install stuff and just copy the contents onto the new one when it comes. Not the best situation ever but still at least they r trying to be as helpful as possible.

Unlike TNT who canny even telephone when trying to deliver to someone whos going deaf so canny always hear the door... ta TNT 4being so customer focused..

I just spoke with an Apple Care Rep, and got bumped up to a Senior Advisor.. I stated to him a few times that I would rather get a refund and purchase a new iMac once the yellow tint issue is resolved.. He was VERY careful with what he said, but he hinted that they are aware of the issue, and I SHOULD NOT have the issue with my replacement machine.. I told him outright that I know that Apple is aware of the issue, but if the machines that are still in production do not have the fix in place, I would rather wait.. He then stated (indirectly) that they do not need my machine for evaluation for the yellow tint, and that my new machine should not have the problem. He was not giving information, but I think he was trying to tell me that they have a handle on the problem and the batch that I get should have the issue resolved.

He did not provide the option of getting the LCD fixed later as I also have a problem with a loud constant hum/vibration from the imac that is probably a bad sensor and they do want the machine back for that.

So, I am looking at an estimated January 5th shipping date (which is interesting as this date is longer than two weeks, I wonder if that is when they anticipate the issue will be resolved??) Just speculation on my part, don't want to get folks fired up here.. I am happy to wait and let them get this stuff sorted out.. In the meantime, I am back to my old but reliable G4 Powerbook for a while... Can't see yellow in that 6 year old screen as it is barely bright enough to make out anything... (-:

On a side note, the customer service was outstanding, and everyone I spoke to was apologetic, professional, and eager to help me out...

That is encouraging news!! I'd like to hear what the specific problems were and what they did to fix them, but I doubt I will find out those details soon.

Hey guys, been using this forum for a couple of years but never actually signed up or posted. Just thought id share my story here with you all.

I purchased a 27" Imac dual on Wednesday. I had already been on this forum prior out of excitement and saw all of these threads but thought id go for it anyway. I didnt seem to have any problems but decided to check for the yellow tint anyway. Turns out i did have it. I must have spent 20 minutes staring at it making sure it wasnt my eyes playing a trick on me. This morning the screen also started flickering and blacking out. So i lugged the imac back to the store (Oh yeah this is store bought not from the website) spoke to the manager who said that hes sorry its obviously an extremely rare thing to happen and he hasnt heard of it before. He said if there were problems with the imacs then apple would know about it... It wasnt until one of the "genius" guys came over and said he knows about it but apple havent "officially" accepted the issue.

So anyway here i am on my replacement iMac and just checked for the yellow tint and its more obvious than before :'( Just waiting for the flickering to start again. The most annoying thing is i wont be near an apple store for the next three weeks due to Christmas...

I'm not sure what week of manufacture these were. This is in the UK as well. I hope i manage to get to the bottom of this somehow...

Still on the phone with Apple... this is insane.

It's been an hour. I've talked to a dozen different people and managers. The genius said that if I called customer relations, they'd send me a new one, and I could then box up the original and return it. Nobody wants to do that. I know it can be done, and I haven't the slightest clue why they're giving me such a hard time about it. I used to work for Apple. My wife works for the Government. We are NOT a loss risk.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am with Apple right now. If they don't make this right, I may never come back.

...stilllll holding.......

EDIT: Just got off the phone. A new one is going to be shipped to me, and if the old one is not on its way back to Apple within 7 business days of the new one arriving, I will be charged for the new one. THANK YOU. Really, why did it take an hour and a dozen people for that? Or rather, two days, a trip to the Apple store, and two dozen people....

Bizarre. It took me 5 minutes to get the same result.

I was routed to an "upper level" technician who facilitated this. He also provided me with an extension to call back with issues. It's been my experience that luck of the draw plays a role in this. Sometimes it's better to just hang up and call back.

sounds to me like they dont have their stories straight.

I was told it b sorted via software and that apple was looking into that!!

Others being told its now fixed via manufacturing.

Some being told "first we know" other yes they r investigation....

Honesty is always the best policy..

I bought an iMac for my brother for Christmas. After I test it and in case it tests positive, what should be my next move?

I agree!! Thinking back on the conversation at first he seemed to state that Apple was researching, but the more I pushed that I did not want a replacement until it is repaired on the production line, he seemed to infer they knew where the problem is and my new machine would not be affected.. Again, very hesitant to give up info, but they were VERY aware of the problem... Of course, they may be trained to say what needs to be said from keeping a customer from getting a refund (versus a replacement), but I would like to think that is not the case... I said to him more than once "so if I get a replacement it will not have the yellow tint" and all times he said "yes".

Frustrating for those of us that are really excited about this product and are fans of Apple, however strategically from a business perspective they do not want to give out too much info just before Christmas... Any info that they perceive to hurt holiday sales would be info that they would not want released, which leaves us all strictly speculating based on generic conversations...

Replacement coming.....

Just received tracking information for my replacement.

My situation sounds similar to others on here. I Received my iMac in early December (Wk 45 production) and noticed the yellow tint right away. I called Apple, and things have progressed relatively smoothly and quickly since then. I was giving advanced replacement so I can keep my current iMac until the new one arrives.

Like others have said, the Apple Reps seem pretty hush hush about the situation, but you can tell that they are aware of the problem. Here's to hoping the new one is free of problems. From the sound of it lately on this forum; Apple is re-assuring customers that need replacements that then new ones being replaced are free from issues.

FYI, my replacement is coming from Shanghai, China.

Another report 27 incher (week 50)

So totally bummed.
I didn't know about this yellow tinge issue till I noticed it myself. I do design and color work so this is unacceptable for me. I spend 8hrs a day staring into this beautiful machine, it needs consistent color. I am taking mine in to a store and hopefully just get it repaired. This machine doesn't have any of the other issues people have on here. I'm sure they will make it right for the people that got bad machines, But this is such a huge disappointment.

Adjusted apple 27 inch artwork.
Yes that image is a huge exaggeration.

I just read that if repaired you don't get the same unit that you drop off. Is that true?

"UPDATE: Apple is aware of the issue and are recommending the repair route. The production runs will still have the issue until they roll the fix into production. The repaired unit will not be returned with the same issue."

So was I, both times I called. The Customer Relations woman I was speaking with spoke to several different managers until she found one that would actually SPEAK with me. All the others basically said "tell him to ship it, then we'll ship him a replacement, and we're sorry he was misinformed". Well, I WASN'T misinformed, they were lying to me. Finally when I talked to the one manager who WOULD speak to me, I of course found that it's much more difficult to lie to someone DIRECTLY instead of through an intermediate party, and I finally got what I needed.

I think actually this has less to do with luck of the draw, and more to do with zip-code. If your address is in a high-crime, poverty-stricken, minority filled area, I think they automatically place you in a loss-risk category. I live in SouthEast DC, by the Navy Yard, in what used to be wall-to-wall projects, and if you look at the crime stats from a couple years ago, it's a SKETCH part of town. NOW, however, it's all pretty glass condos and apartments. Still a diverse community, but a wealthier one. Part of me thinks Apple's stats haven't caught up yet.

First, love the image!

Did Apple tell you that information directly? I cannot fathom why they would have proper working LCD panels in their repair centers but not on the production line going into new machines? I honestly think they are getting tired of shipping out new machines...

Someone is probably going to get mad at me for putting that up, but I needed to take a shot at apple over this.

And no, I didn't hear that from Apple. I just read it on page 1 of this thread. (updates)

Is this problem something that is more apparent over time?

Edit: Sorry I didn't read the first post entirely. So I guess my next question would be is it a matter of days or weeks? Its so subtle right now I just cant tell.

Interesting theory. Pretty unbelievable, otherwise, that we would have such different experiences with this. I was pleasantly surprised when I had called - they immediately offered advance replacement without me even really asking for it, so maybe your theory is not far off. For the record, I live in Chapel Hill.

Heh, well, it's probably what I would do were I in charge of loss-prevention at Apple. It's all about odds. Kindof a logical thing to do, jacked-up and semi-prejudiced though it may be.

Have you done the obvious thing and checked that this issue is not just a very slight superficial discoloration on the lower portion of some people's glass?

I have read about that before. Anyone curious enough to try this? I don't have my 27" iMacs anymore (this thread has led me to make the decision to refund both of my 27"s). I'll try to get a genius to test one in the stores when I get the chance.

Personally I am willing to spend an additional $200 for a yellow free Core i7 iMac. Just to avoid the hassle. There are perfect displays out there but it seems pretty rare.

I've had my display swapped and the yellow appeared in different locations of the screen. This is certainly not a glass issue.

My iMac was shipped from Anchorage Alaska (week 50) - I get different results in different room light but unless I start to see a dramatic color change I'm going to keep what Ive got.

It's not the best of picture but I think I can see the yellow tinge...only 3 days old!

Can you see it or is it just me?

Update: Right i just been to the apple store for the forth time today.... I managed to get them to go through their stock of dual core 27" and they were all week 47 (they didnt even know how to check) so after much deliberation and yet another coffee for this long day i decided to fork out the extra £220 for the quad core... I'm using it at the moment, its week 49 and guess what. Its got the damn yellow tint at the bottom of the screen yet again!!!!!! :(
