hey guys.

long time lurker, first time poster.

My order number is W6785XXXX ... how do I determine the week/batch from this .. from what I understand it's the two numbers following the first two... making it wee 85? :D obviously not...

:)

Thanks

Order number and serial number are two separate things. When they ship your iMac very soon afterwards you can view the invoice which will contain your serial number.

Though it wasn't me who asked you the initial question, thanks!!!!
I was having a heart attack due to my order number. It looked like my new IMAC was going to be week 51!

yellow tint or not?

Hi,

as ist happened to many other it is now happening to me. When I got the 27 inch I5 iMac as an replacement for an 24 inch iMac that never worked correctly I was really happy as it was not cracked, did not have any flickering issues and I even decided to live with two dead pixels or dirt behind the Glass (not sure what it is).

Then I made the mistake to read the stuff on the internet. Now I am convinced my iMac (52th week) does have the yellow tint problem at least in the left part of the monitor.

I won't give it back yet as there still seem to be far too many iMacs with this problem.

As there are many experts in this forum I would like to ask you to check the picture I took. So what do you think: yellow tint problem or not?

I do appreciate your help

Thanks
Frid

The bottom left there looks pretty yellow to me. While I still maintain that a cast of some sort is visible on all "quality" LCDs, that does look a little too yellow for my liking.

That yellow isnt visible on all "quality" LSD's.
I have 24 s-ips monitor from dell and 24 h-ips monitor from hp. And thay dont have any yellow, pink, green or any kind of color tint.

frid, your monitor have yellow tint. If you are ok with having faulty display than keep it, if not return it.

I never said just yellow was visible. I said there's generally a cast of some sort on all LCDs. The majority people don't even notice it most of the time, especially when the WHOLE screen is a slight pinkish tone or slight blue-ish tone.

No expert, or anyone with a modicum of common-sense, would look at a photo such as that and draw conclusions from it.

And why is that??? It's an underexposed, grainy picture, but the fact remains there is a yellow tint on the bottom... clearly visible.
Not sure I see the point of your post...

I have a new display on order with Apple, here are my pics. Seems like I have a left right issue as opposed to top/bottom. Week 46 27" i5

Pic#
1) Standard top bottom gray bars.
2) I grabbed the 4 corners from pic #1.
3) I grabbed the center section of the left and right gray bars and put them in the middle next to each other.

I also took several pics of #3 off angle left and right, figuring that could have been an issue, unfortunately it produced the same result.

Can this be addressed with calibration or is this just another variant of the warm tint issue plaguing those in this thread? I really don't want the Geniuses opening my iMac unnecessarily. Thoughts?

Slight yellow tinge across entire bottom. Week 51 refurb. May be hard to see in screenshot. Click attachment and click agin to magnify.

Actually, my week 51 refurb is very similar... maybe only slightly worse depending on its mood. I suggest that you call and at least record your issue with them. If you ask, they'll probably give you a few more weeks to consider whether you want to exchange it. See if the problem gets worse. As it is now, there's at least a 50/50 chance that we won't get one better than the one we have now. Still don't know what I'll do myself.

If you keep the unit you have and it gets worse or really starts to bother you, you still have a year to send it in for repair, once they figure out a fix.

Frid,

Here is your pic with the contrast levels adjusted (only); it appears the top portion of your display is quite cool (Blue) and the bottom is certainly on the warm side. Get a replacement if you can.

Good luck,

Marc

The whole image is worthless. It describes the limitations of the camera lens more than it describes the subject.

Care to describe these "limitations?"

Be precise, please, and use terms and explanations appropriate not just to a "lens," but to digital photography.

Thanks.

thanks for your assistance. I do really appreciate it. I guess I do have the same yellow tint problem as most of the others here. I am not quite sure what to do now. I do not want to send back the iMac and wait a couple of weeks before I get a replacement, as I do need the computer. I am not even sure if apple will replace the system or if they want me to get it repaired it. I did have bad experience with apple service providers exchanging parts of my old iMac in the past.

So I do have another question. Is there a chance that apple just exchanges the system i.e. that they first send me a replacement and that I send the faulty one back afterwards?

Thanks
frid

No.

I don't suppose you've ever considered just not contributing when your views actually add nothing to the discussion?

For those that don't know, Sir Cecil has returned 2 Imacs, first one due to undue HDD noise and the second due to a yellow screen. Now he has a satisfactory replacement he likes to just post rather juvenile posts undermining anyone else who has these same issues. I would do what most of us on this forum do - ignore him rather like you do to an attention seeking naughty child.

I agree... and I have read that book a few times, so please don't come on this post with your "high and mighty" attitude telling all us idiots to read a book... I think you should read it again. He's not taking a photo for a stock site or for anything other than showing a yellow cast... a dang phone camera is sufficient.

Just two comments:

1. My 27-inch iMac with the Core i7 processor, bearing a "47" in the serial number, exhibits pretty consistent color rendition side to side and top to bottom.

2. Few LCD panels, particularly with larger sized screens, are perfect. I've never seen 100%, so if you get 99% be happy. The quest for total perfection will be forever elusive. Indeed, there may be slight color variations observed simply by tilting the screen, or moving it physically. But a photograph will help here to isolate a possible defect.

Peace,
Gene

I agree, it's best to ignore him. But sometimes it is hard, given his confrontational nature which is poorly disguised in self-righteous, snobby remarks. :)

Whole screens can be calibrated, and yes, a slight cast or tint on a whole screen is pretty normal if you ask me. An obvious yellow tint on half of a screen is not a normal attribute on all LCD's. There is NO excuse for this William! It's not normal. :)

frid,

That probably depends where you are located. Talk to the Apple support, they seem to be quite helpful and supportive (ha!). I suggest also to follow the yellow ting on other threads (something with 3 week wait).

My friend just bought an i7 27" with 8GB from the Apple Store.

The screen has the yellow tint still (entire bottom right and a little to the left), so she returned it for a full refund. Shes buying a Win7 PC. Doesnt want to deal with the issue.

I will try and find out the week number.

Looks like they are still selling consumers bad screens.

I have personally gone through 5 DELL's U2410, they also use IPS screens from LG and they all have the Green or yellow-to-pink issue, the tint gradient is either from left to right or from top to bottom, DELL's, HardOCP, overclockers.co.uk forums:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=u2...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

are full of people complaining abut the issue, DELL's and LG stance on this is that is a normal panel characteristic and not an "issue", DELL is gone as far as to say that they won't replace panels with such a problem anymore.
