I have personally gone through 5 DELL's U2410, they also use IPS screens from LG and they all have the Green or yellow-to-pink issue, the tint gradient is either from left to right or from top to bottom, DELL's, HardOCP, overclockers.co.uk forums:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=u2...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Thanks for posting about that. Gives some context. Not that it absolves Apple one bit. This experience has greatly marred my expectations of Apple, but ironically affirmed for me their exceptional customer support.

DELL is gone as far as to say that they won't replace panels with such a problem anymore.

So they won't replace the panels, but they will replace the monitor (hence your having gone through 5)?

That yellow isnt visible on all "quality" LSD's.
I have 24 s-ips monitor from dell and 24 h-ips monitor from hp. And thay dont have any yellow, pink, green or any kind of color tint.

frid, your monitor have yellow tint. If you are ok with having faulty display than keep it, if not return it.

On quality LSD, I bet you'd see more than yellow tint! :p

Whole screens can be calibrated, and yes, a slight cast or tint on a whole screen is pretty normal if you ask me. An obvious yellow tint on half of a screen is not a normal attribute on all LCD's. There is NO excuse for this William! It's not normal. :)

Gah! Yes it is "normal" (in the sense that it's not uncommon).

I can post pictures of various LCDs that have casts in various locations. A while back I posted a review of a MacBook Pro 17" next to my 15" MacBook Pro. Here's an image from that review, clearly showing my two MacBook Pros together, and then the bottom and top of the 17" MacBook Pro, CLEARLY showing the cast difference.

I KNOW a cast is NORMAL, and I've had enough experience with various LCDs to know this:

The two laptops (15" and 17"(side by side, showing the cast difference:

My friend just bought an i7 27" with 8GB from the Apple Store.

The screen has the yellow tint still (entire bottom right and a little to the left), so she returned it for a full refund. Shes buying a Win7 PC. Doesnt want to deal with the issue.

I will try and find out the week number.

Looks like they are still selling consumers bad screens.

Please stop with that ********. Apple Stores don't sell i7s nor anything with a 8GB option. Those are custom builds, which are exclusive online.

Windows 7? Now that's an even bigger issue! An finally stable and usable Vista that's slightly less suckier!

edit: William G you haven't heard? Apple has had the same problem for some of their older MBPs as well as the 24" LED Cinema display. You should go check out the new LED (no IPS) Macbook Pros in the stores. Apple has corrected their problems silently.

I think it's fairly obvious he meant the online Apple store, no?

And to your edit: No they haven't. My wife has a unibody MacBook Pro 15", and I had a unibody 15" and early 2009 unibody 17". All of these laptops have/had a cast of some sort.

I think my 27 inch imac has a yellowing tint in the lower right corner. it's not as extreme as some but i think it's there - what does everybody think? It's a week 45.

First pic is the corners test, second is finder detail view, and third is left/right columns.

I don't trust my eyes to give me a legit answer, but if i had to guess i'd say yes.

No.
Get a copy of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Photography Essentials (paperback)".
Used copies are available at Amazon for around $16.

I didn't think you could.

No one can. Lenses don't work like that (I say, as a photographer for more than 40 years, who has sold, published, and exhibited prints). Anybody who would pass off this sort of color gradation as "the limitations of the camera lens" has no clue what he's talking about.

But then, you've demonstrated that often enough.

What a self-important twit!

In my experience since the last visit to the Apple Store, all the LED Macbook (the white unibody plastic) and Macbook Pros 13"-17" show a perfect screen, ie. with absolutely no cast —in my local Apple Store. What I did was simply used the same test provided on this thread. But I have also seen 2 Macbook Pros (15" and 17") at Best Buy that have a very slight brown/orange cast towards the bottom. They are far more subtle than the new iMacs (one 21.5" and one 27") standing next to them, which show clear yellow tinges. To be fair though, it could have been viewing angle thing for a much smaller screen.

My first i5 from the Apple Store has a screen that is SO BAD that sitting next to my TFT screens that I simply refuse to look at it. It was so striking and obvious even just looking at the dock when the screen booted up. And back then I was not aware of any of these issues. My primary 24" TFT Screen actually has a yellow cast in the top left edge on the screen, and it only covers about 2% of the the entire screen. Compared to the iMac the cast took over at least 65% of the screen from the bottom towards the centre. And I am the kind of guy who normally don't really care about these things. I wouldn't even cared if the isight was broken or superdrive never worked. I wouldn't have cared if the screen had 10 dead pixels somewhere. But that yellow cast simply made everything looked that much uglier than what I am used to. I honestly think if you ever had an experience like that you wouldn't be coming here and telling people that this is normal.

Anyway I have high hopes for Apple to get this issue sorted out soon. If not a perfect screen at least give me one that is acceptable... and I believe they will.

lol. so Apple have been doing this to their customers for ages then..!

thanks for pointing that out to the prospective customers, hopefully some will listen.

I've bought and returned five (5) of the 24" LED Cinema Displays because of this exact same problem. I could never get one that was as even, top to bottom, as the display model in the Apple store. Looks like the same is happening with the 27". If yours does not meet your standards, return it. But know that chances you will get one as good as what is on display are extremely low.

Please, please stop with the serial number/build week crap. It doesn't make a damn bit of difference what week the thing was made. At all. ZERO. LCD panels have been, are and will continue to be a crapshoot, especially these relatively new LED IPS versions.

Fix?

The short of it -- Do a Software Update

The long of it --

RSS feed just in from engadget:

"Still plagued by the annoying screen flicker on your precious 27-inch iMac, even after the previous update? Try this second attempt by Apple. While you're at it, there's also a minor update for iTunes which makes sure it actually "remember password for purchases," as well as fixing a few sync and performance issues. Good luck with both and let us know if your iMac nightmare is finally over."

Mine should get here this week -- can anyone confirm that this is a fix for them ?

Got this from another forum.
Take it for what it's worth, but hopefully for everyones sake its true

Hi again!
I have even more exciting news for you guys to analyse! Just called the Mac guys back asking them about this inconsistency with the things they have been telling me so they sent me a copy of the info they got about the yellowing of the screens from Apple. I saw this document which is strictly confidential but the guy saw how angry i was. The document says that Apple have been working on this fix since Christmas and that this update (coming around the 10th of Feb) is not a firmware update, it is much much more. The update will go deeper into the iMac way of functioning and the display of color. Basically the update (not a firmware update!) will change the way the 27" displays color. It is, as it says on the document, a MACHINE CODE UPDATE (in big black capital letters)
So happy to be able to report this to you guys
Before you ask me to send you the document, the guy at the store asked me to keep this to myself
Hope this helps

Regards

I saw some pigs flying outside. I'm going to go catch one...

Here I go!

For real. Sounds like complete BS.

..well, in effect there is a "software" way to fix the yellow tinge, basically you split the screen in different sections-areas, top/bottom or in 4-6 squares and then allow for each square/section to be calibrated individually thus having different color settings, NEC uses such a system in their IPS screens, they call the technology "ColorComp", in this case to diminish the yellow you would raise the RED component just for the bottom area of the screen and not for the top one.

Unfortunately aren't different users reporting different areas of their screen being affected - cannot see how Apple could issue a "one solution fixes all" update?

Well, I guess they could create a wizard a bit like the inbuilt calibration-tool, but yeah you are right is not a simple issue to address, I am having the same problem with my DELL U2410, same IPS panel just a tad smaller, 24", yellow on the bottom of the screen, no way you can ignore it once you know that is there!

Bloomberg reporting Apple issues w/ 27" iMacs

Hello all, first time post, long time lurker. I too had the yellow tinge. returned it only to receive another one. I then opted for a refund.

i have been patiently waiting for a fix for all the issues.
I saw a post on Bloomberg where apple admits to a ...." “small number” of complaints about its 27-inch iMac, made changes to fix flickering and yellow tinting on the computer’s screen. It also is working to increase supplies of the model."

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.

Yellow tinge

Hi guys,

I received my 27" iMac C2D on December 7 2009. I haven't experienced any issues with regards to a flickering display.
I believed my mac to be in perfect working order but unfortunately as this is my first ever iMac I didn't have anything to compare it to.
I came across this forum last week and have since been investigating the current issues with these new machines.
The yellow tinge problem is my major concern. Since I discovered this is a massive problem I have begun to doubt my iMac is up to scratch.
I have performed many of the tests featured on this forum to see if I have the yellow tint problem.
Now, I don't know whether its paranoia or my eyes playing tricks on me looking at such a massive display but I reckon I can see the slightest of yellow tints towards the bottom of the screen.
My machine is a week 46 model (which I realise is from one of the dodgy weeks), I have also noticed backlighting issues on the bottom left and right of the display.
I realise I may be one of the lucky ones and this yellow issue could just be my mind playing tricks on me, however I’m sure it is there even though it is very minimal and wouldn't affect my work. (I’m a designer)
I am hoping one of you guys could offer some advice as to whether to stick with it or speak to Apple about a replacement. I got the machine through the company I work for on a 2 year monthly instalment plan. I have 3 years Apple care thrown in.
It’s a major pain in the arse to get it replaced as I have just got all my software etc installed and the machine just the way I want it.
Also, as I received it at the start of December is it now too late to be suddenly complaining about this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, apologies for waffling!
