week 51 yelow tint but no flicker

Hi everybody.
I've got the Imac I7 week 51. The test showed yellow tint almost throughout the bottom part of the screen. No Flicker though.

Actually, I never really noticed before, but now after the test I notice. I hope it could be fixed like its mentioned here.

Best of luck guys & girls. We are not alone here, and massive change only takes place whenever interest gather and organize, like its been done throughout history. Of course I'm referring to political issues here, but the same goes for this. Take say the timecapsule issues. Those were fixed for a lot of people, including me, because of the site http://timecapsuledead.org/

It can only be ignored if we do nothing.

Hey guys,

Im a first time Mac user, and I have the yellow tinge issue. I have the 27" iMac Core2Duo Week 44. I have just done the latest display issue update, and the problem is still there. Its on the bottom right of the screen.
This is actually my 3rd iMac, 1st one had a white hair/fibre behind the screen, 2nd one had scratches/dints on the keyboard and bottom of screen. Now my 3rd one has yellow tinge issue and a really noisy hard drive (Seagate HDD). Don't now what to do, because I really dont want to drag the 27" iMac back to the Apple store and swat it for a new one, when I may get the same problem. Any advice?

If you are within the 14 day return period, I'd opt to get your $$ back until you see the problem solved. If not, lug it in and get your name on the list for a HD and display replacement.

Ugh. I got my replacement iMac (the issue was primarily not yellowing but instead a horizontal "shadow" across the screen).

The computer is perfect in every way except...

It has the yellow tint in the bottom ~third of the screen. It's not too bad and I was able to minimize it a bit by calibration. I'm mulling over what to do. I'm leaning toward getting it fixed in a month or two. I like this machine too much to give up.

Edit: I forgot --

Probably should have kept the first one and just cleaned it off. At this point, if I had one with a good display you couldn't pry it out of my cold dead hands!

I was very happy with my new 21.5" iMac that I bought this Sunday. I Googled to find hints and tips for set up and gutted I found this post, because now I've spotted that I too have this yellow tinge to my screen.

I never noticed it before, but now I have... I guess my dream switch-over from PC to Mac ruined....

I guess I'll be taking this back and buying a PC that has a nice white screen.

well done to you..

Why do you post here? Seriously, you must have better things to do than to troll the Apple forums. We get it, you've been "wronged" by Apple and now you'd like to spread the seeds of discontent. Unfortunately, the truth is that you add nothing to these discussions but noise. It's actually kind of sad.

An Apple spokesman said again this week that “the 27-inch iMac has been a huge hit with customers and we are working to increase supply to meet up with strong demand.” He added that production has continued while the company fixed the problems with flickering screens and yellow-tinted displays.

Good news. If you will trust Apple's PR.

week 05 - yellow tint

Just received a 27 inch iMac with i7 processor that was ordered from the online store before the end of the year.
Shipping was delayed twice, so I was hoping this was due to efforts to solve the issue.
Unfortunately, the yellow tint for me shows up in both lower corners as well as a vertical band in the middle of the screen.
Very easy to see if you open a finder window and move it around the screen.
I'll call Apple tomorrow to see what my options are, but simply have to have a display that I can trust.

I just received iMac number 6 this afternoon. It is a week 05 and it has the yellow tinge (as have all other 21.5" iMacs I have had). I think I give up. My partner says I should just keep getting replacements until Apple finally sends one with no problems.

6 replacements - surely there comes a time (probably at 3rd replacement) where you have to admit defeat. It's just pointless to keep replacing a computer that obviously has an technical issue that needs to be resolved by Apple. Just either get a refund or, do as some others have done, and report the issue within your 14 days grace period and then wait for the problem to be addressed at the manufacturing stage before getting a replacement or repair.

I know it's frustrating but surely this constant return-replace cycle is just amplifying any frustration.

QFT. After my third (and current) i7 iMac arrived with the yellow tinge, I've decided to wait and see what the "real" fix is rather than continue with the return/replacements.

You are surely becoming a very expensive customer for Apple! But you are doing also a good service for us all - thanks! I don't know if I'd have enough fortitude to do it that many times, so I'd probably settled for an "I almost don't see it" unit and suffered forever after.
But the bottom line is that the new LCD panels didn't hit the shipping docks yet...

I've just called Apple to arrange to drop it off at the store where I bought the thing for a refund. They advised me to take the firmware update before booking a Genius appointment to have it done. I'm not sure if it's been mentionned here before (this thread is huge), but is that what people are being told?

If they offer me a replacement, I'm tempted to get them to take it out the box in store and test before I take it home... Since it's my replacement, I guess I can always open it and test it in store. If I make enough fuss in the store in front of customers, I don't think they'll have enough choice?

It's funny how all the in store iMacs work fine, but I will look to test them when I get there and maybe see if they will sit mine against one for comparison.

Will be going at the weekend (or Thursday afternoon) - so I will let you know how I get on. Not that it matters but mine is a wk51 21.5" iMac. Just hope my time capsule saves my data okay!

Can you see it during normal use? If not, why not keep your iMac. It's a great machine.

I also have a 21.5" iMac and refuse to run these tests. I don't really want to know I have this issue. I don't notice it and as far as I'm concerned, the display looks great.

This is why threads like this can be a bit of a pain to people who are perfectly happy with their machines.

If you see my other post, I can also see it during normal use now. And because I know it's there, I can see it. It's on the bottom of my screen, so having sites open with white, like google or this forum, it's very yellow now, and I can see it more because I know it is there.

I do a lot of photo editing, so it's key for this to be perfect, otherwise it's very difficult to adjust an incorrect white balance for example when you're already looking into a yellow tinted screen.

Understand your point, however what you find acceptable and are happy to accept others find unacceptable. Also, it may not bother you at the moment but your use of your iMac could change in the future where by consistent colour is important or you may wish to sell it further down the line.

Macs are often favoured by media professionals / creatives who use Applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and After Effects or indeed Apple's own FCP, Colour and Aperture. The yellow hue on this monitor makes it completely impossible to do any colour correction using any of these Applications. You also cannot calibrate the screen as the yellow hue is only on part of the screen.

I totally understand manufacturing variance but these monitors are just not right so no wonder people are not content - especially at Apple's premium price point and claims of "The Ultimate Display" "...you’ll get a perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail".

returned my 3rd 21.5"

Hello all- first time post on this thread. I went back to my Apple Store for the 3rd time. They gave me two options: full refund or wait for a fix by Apple coming mid-February.

They had been really good about giving me two exchanges and expected them to give me a 3rd. No dice. To be honest if they had given me another exchange, I would have asked for a refund if that screen still wasn't right. I really felt it was getting too bothersome to keep exchanging computers every two weeks.

I'm w/o a Mac now, and typing this on a library iBook. I will wait as long as possible until I see that the screen issues have been solved. I'm a photographer, so I may go for a MacBook Pro. Too bad, for I clearly prefer the iMac for price , performance and screen real estate.

3rd iMac arrived today, again screen discolouration very evident. Will be phoning in the morning for replacement number 4. I've kept the very first iMac they sent me, I just keep sending the replacements back. Eventually they'll get it right. The financials for this issue mean they have to, and the damn "f" on this keyboard doesn't work right.

My 2nd just arrived. Plugged in and yellow tinge present. Not as pronounced as the first one but its there. Moreover this one, the HD (2tb) makes an almost constant low growling sound. The tinge (unless you're looking for it) is mostly unnoticeable but the HD noise is extremely annoying.
No big deal, I will just call tomorrow to send this one it back. The next one will be the last one I will try until they completely fix these issues.

Why wait? that is exactly what Apple is hopping for, I am now on my 5th Imac in 2 weeks period. I will continu to bring them back, that will certainly adress the issue because, that is the only way apple will loose money! If you decide to keep it, they will only offer you a fix, wich that may be in a couple of months or so!(issues started in oct 2009 i think) and only 2 firmware got out, and some say it doesn't even work! I am taking mine back till they realize that they have to hurry to fix the problem for they will loose more money this way!!!!
