Quite honestly, my screen doesn't really have a considerable yellow tinge, but a slight variance in color at the bottom that you would never notice unless you've purposely made your whole screen white and looked really hard for it-- something you wouldn't experience on every day use.

That about sums up my Week 9 2010 i7 27", as well - if that, really. I mean I guess there is a yellow tinge in the lower right hand corner, but I can't really be sure. It might be the angle I am looking at it or something.

if Apple had plenty of i7 27" iMacs in the stores, I'd go swap it out. But they don't. So I'd need to arrange a swap with the local Store (fortunately only about 10 minutes away) or work on the drop-off and pick-up service. And then hope the next one looked better. Because if it looked worse, then I have to go through it all over again.

I don't consider myself an "Apple Apologist". With the Governor's share, I shelled out north of $2400 for this thing so I'm not going to give Apple / LG a free pass just because "it's an Apple and Apple are wonderful!". But I'm also not going to play weeks and weeks of "round robin" to fix a problem that I honestly am not sure is there in the first place.

As always, YMMV and my experiences and opinions may not be relevant to your own.

Does mine have that problem? the serial number is QP0050XXXXX

As far as I understand, this week would be Week 8 of 2010. Was that a typo on your part or does your Serial # have a "9" as the first number after the alphabetic prefix (ie, W9xxxxx or QP9xxxxx)?

From today there's only been 6 weeks into the year. There's no way anyone can have a week 8 iMac as of yet, unless Apple is counting weeks differently. Please feel free to correct me on this if I got it wrong.

Do u mind sharing how to boost the saturation to check for yellowish?

In iPhoto do right click and there click Edit. At the bottom you'll see Adjust icon. Click that and play with Saturation slider (move all the way to right). It's pretty simple.

Make sure to have a look on all the photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/goeran/sets/72157623317063561/

Yes, on white background the yellow tinge seems pretty strong, but for regular use it's ok.. It feels wrong to settle with ok, when considering I've payed 2000$ for this machine.

Anyways, regarding the week of production. According to this guide: http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-ma...nderstand-apple-mac-serial-number-format.html, my iMac was produced in week 5.

First 5 chars/digits: W8005

Thanks for the fast response:)

I talked to Apple today, and they where really nice about returning the iMac. They also offered me about 150$ in return because of the problems this had caused me.

The person I talked to said it could take a while before I'm getting a new one, because they had to apply more extensive testing at the fabrics blablah...

This person couldn't give me any estimates on the delivery..

EVERY revision of the iMac is advertised as the ultimate display, guy-- that's just marketing lingo and not actual truth.
Sorry but

A) color consistency is something you should expect from this kind of technology. When I see a cheap ass Toshiba laptop with a LED screen having zero problems with color consistency that makes me think... .

B) If apple advertises that the screen has "excellent color consistency" - off course they do that is why we have LED based IPS screens in the first place - then I expect nothing less.

I couldn't care less if they say it is the ultimate/best/whatever screen, I don't buy that. But I do have certain expectations based on what technology should deliver.

say what???

I think you should stop reading the forums and just enjoy your imac... If you have to "guess" that your's has the yellowing... it likely doesn't. I think this issue can be brought on by suggestion and some people start to see things that are not really there... others it's there and it's obvious.

I learned to stop reading this forum once people started seeing yellow tinging in screen shots-- so good.

So, i have contacted the Apple CS. They did offered me a replacement, but in the condition that i will have to send the current back to them 1st, and then wait another 2 weeks to receive my replacement.

But this is the only computer i have right now, and i need it for daily usage. I request them to send me a new one 1st, and i will send back the old 1 upon receipt of the new one. But they said it is not possible. What they suggested was i pay another 2k to order a new one and upon receiving, I can return the old one and ask for a refund.

It is just ridiculous, I am just a student, do they think my father own a bank or something?

I would like to know what you guys suggest me to do. Perhaps an email to Mr. Jobs?

That's odd. It seems most people are able to get an "advance replacement." Perhaps try using that exact phrase. See if you get a different response. Are you in the US?

I am not in US, the CS is based from Singapore.

At first i was quite confident with apple after sales service, but listening to the suggestion of paying another 2k upfront to get advance replacement is just unacceptable.

I am curious, did they even think before they offer this ridiculous option?

Hey folks,

first of all, I wanted to say "Hello" to you all.

I just signed up here, slowly going crazy with the trouble I have with Apple.

So far, AppleCare has been nice and understanding and always offered me a replacement. I got machine No. 4 delivered t day and to be honest, I can't tell if its ok or not anymore.

The first 3 hat different problems, like defect DVD Drive, Pixel Errors, Flickering and Yellow Tinge.

This one has a working DVD Drive, no Pixel Errors and no Flickering (have been running it for 5 Hours now) but I am not so sure about the Yellow Tinge.

So I mage a picture with my phone and attach it to my post, hopeing you guys could also tell me if I should keep it or cancel it altogether.

Because if it's not ok, this time I'll be going for a refund and it will be my last deal with Apple for a long time... :)

Btw, I ordered in November '09.

Cheers & Thanks,

Dennis

Just curious but, if you can't tell if the iMac has a yellow tinge or not why are you asking others to tell you?

You're actually going to base the return of the machine on what some unknown strangers in a user forum tell you??

How about how does the machine look to YOU through your own eyes?

Mmh, have you never been so unsure about something that you decided to ask for different opinions?

Thats all I wanted to do here, ask for different opinions. :)

But anyway, I am going for a refund, just 30 Minutes after I posted this, the harddrive started making strange, ticking noises...

Maybe its a bomb? :)

Based on your that photo it would be hard to tell wether it had a yellow tinge or not - I certainly cannot give you any qualified opinion on that. Also be wary of comments left by, archipellago, he has a very anti Apple agenda he constantly pushes and his reputation on this forum doesn't count for much. Regarding HDD, remember your iMac is probably indexing it's content for Spotlight therefore it will initially be a litltle noisy as it does this and then it should hopefully quieten down. Same with iPhoto, while it initially does it's face recognition you can hear HDD activity but once it has done this initial scan it will quieten down.

Personally I wouldn't, in a knee jerk fashion, request a refund, rather use the iMac for two or three days then then make a qualified call on it. If at the end of this time you aren't happy then you can still request a refund.
