iMac 27" standard 3.06GHz/4Gig/1TB.

Week 06, 2010 build, delivered to Perth, Australia.

Yellow tinge evident in lower right of screen. Guesstimate 15% of screen area.

Read this forum AFTER purchase, returned to store roughly one hour after purchase. Apple Support pronounced DOA after 2min phonecall. Item returned, full refund.

I don't see any yellowing in the image to the right. Not sure what the image to the left is supposed to be showing. Either way, you didn't notice anything prior to coming to the forum, which is the point I was making before. I surmise that you could indeed show a perfect screen in this thread, and you'd still have a select few seeing some kind of yellow roaming around on the screen.

"It's on the right side, a quarter of the way down, half way between the 3rd and 4th quadrant with a slight hue of blue and possibly red mixed in with a very light shade of yellow....oh, and I can hear your drive grumble from here....I'd return that sucker".

For those of you who do have legitimate issues, I completely understand wanting Apple to make you whole again via a refund or exchange, but some of this has gotten a bit ridiculous.

absolutely right ;)

And I'm curious to see the "perfect" LCD display they are going to buy for their PC ....

Got my week 09 iMac i5 27" on monday and have spent the last 2 evenings with it. As far as I can tell there is no yellowing, did the test and if there is anything there I think it's my eyes playing tricks on me.

Was a little scared when I loaded Win 7 on with Bootcamp and got the yellow dots and the ATI driver restarting constantly.

Upgraded to Bootcamp 3.1 and it seems to have resolved the issue, but need to spend more time on the Windows side to determine if the problem has been totally cleared up.

So far so good.... lovin the Mac.:)

Quick question.... what's the best conditions to take a picture of the yellow screen under? Not to prove its there, I know that it is and can see it clearly, but I mean in terms of lighting etc with the glossy screen so I can capture it as Apple have asked me to send a picture to them.

I got slammed for being too technical on another thread about this but... just expose for the display, don't use any additional lighting or flash. I'll probably get pummeled for even using the word "expose."

I tend to see The Tinge more with an all-white screen, like an empty Safari tab or an empty Finder window (List view) which has alternating horizontal white & light blue rows.

But, here's the question I'm going to start asking people, do you think you would have noticed the yellowing if you had not been looking for it?

received my imac one day ago in the netherlands

Hello guys,

this is my first post becasue i just received my first ever iMac 27inch 2 days ago. I ran the Yellow tint test today and here are few pictures which i took few hours ago. What do you say about them? overall screen looks okay!

I think there is a yellow band in the middle specially starting in the center and going towards right. Left side seems okay and nicely white but the right side is a little bit yellowish? My eye sight is week and for me it is hard to judge it. I showed it to my friends (2 of them) and their first reaction was that it has no problem. When i told them about the yellow tint then they said that the also think it is there but it is not very visible!

any other picture which i should take...any recommendation for taking the picture which could expose the screen in the right manner?

one last thing: how to test the backlight of the screen? i saw few post earlier where they showed the black screen or black and white screen...i dont know how to investigate that? i heard there are also some issues with back light ... specially corners?

thanks a lot!

I wouldn't have noticed it. :)
When I first received the iMac I thought I was lucky enough to have received a screen without any issues. It was only after doing this test that I realized there was something wrong with it (bottom bars were both a lot darker). I still don't notice it one white backgrounds but I do see a slight gradient to yellow on websites with dark backgrounds.

Edit: forget what I said, now that I'm using a different laptop I realize that my entire iMac screen is yellow. The bars don't even show up as gray bars, just yellowish/gray bars and the bottom bars are darker than the top bars.. :(

Thanks for the tips. I'm sitting here and the yellowing is very noticeable, but the first few pics I took just don't show it properly.

We didn't notice the yellowing on ours until recent pictures with a lot of snow in them. Then it was pretty obvious and once we'd noticed it, it was difficult to not notice it.

When I got my 2nd replacement screen, I thought it was worse, so put a picture up and got my mate next door over to look at the screen. I didn't tell him what was wrong, but as soon as he sat down, he said "why's the bottom of the picture yellow?"

There have been a lot more posts recently from people asking users to confirm if their screen is yellow rather than saying their screen is yellow.

The yellow on the right side of the screen is very noticeable to me in those pics. If your eyesight is bad and you don't though, maybe its ok for you.

thanks for your reply! i will wait for few other replies and then definately go back to apple store!
one more thing: how intensive this yellow tint is as compare other reports which you might have seen recently?

do you have any idea about checking backlight thingy?

thanks!

I got my 3rd replacement today. Originally bought 30 days ago! Still yellow in the bottom right corner (about half the screen this time). Will get a full refund and will never turn back to apple. Sorry.

Hi everyone,
I just realized I do have the yellowing on the right side of my screen a few days ago. And I'm very disappointed. :( Do you think the yellowing is enough to get it replaced ?

50% brightness/ day 7
It's a week 53. (21.5" iMac)

I would get it replaced as the screen is faulty. But ALL the replacements WILL still be yellow. Ive just given up now. Apple have gone Crapple.

Just ordered iMac 27 from apple...

Hi there!

Just ordered an iMac from apple. I hope they have solved the screen-issues. Just talked to one of the tech-support crew at apple, and he said that the problem with yellow screens isn´t as common anymore. Hope he´s right......

Thanks for a real good forum:)

iLemon 27''. How long for a replacement ?

Hi guys, I've asked for a replacement of my iMac 27'' to be set.
I've sent it back to Ireland yesterday morning with DHL.
How long will Apple take to re-ship the new iMac ?
Do they usually wait for the old one to arrive to their labs before sending the new one ?

I took my 21.5" back to the store and got a refund. I re-ordered the same one online and received it yesterday and the yellowing is even worse.

I contacted apple care and there are going to send a replacement.

Funny thing is the guy on the phone said:

"Im sorry to say this but we will make sure we give this a priority check before sending"

Which indicates to me they know they are suffering from these problems, but are trying to get rid of the bad batch to people who don't make a fuss.

I should be receiving the replacement today, ill keep you guys posted.

:)

Week 10 replacement received yesterday.
Apparently pre-screened prior to despatch.
Still yellow gradient lower right quarter.

I don't consider my expectation to be unreasonable.
I'm not seeking an unachievable quality of screen.
I'm not expecting grade 1 quality perfect screen.
Seems to be reasonable that one should expect a screen without a yellow hue.

Not really sure what to do, I can live with it but kind of think why should I when you spend that kind of cash. I need a desktop Mac and don't want a Mac Pro so it seems like I'll keep hold of this one and wait for a while (12 months) until Apple get a handle on the yellow screen issue and then use my AppleCare and get a screen replacement. Currently they have not got a resolution to the problem, both via replacement screens and new build iMacs, so no point in even exploring that route.

Im in the same boat (see above)

Im not going to put up with a "ok it will do" screen. I have paid a lot of money and don't see why I should put up with a yellow screen.

Ill keep sending back and sending back until they can send a good one. It's up to them how much they want to waste on sending over and over, it's in their interest to get it right.

Kind of takes the pleasure out of it though doesn't it? Personally swapping out a computer in a continuous cycle is just too frustrating and time consuming for me. There are some who have been throught 6 replacements and then have given up or sought a refund. This is my third since November (No 1 had HDD issue and yellow screen, No 2 the yellow screen. currently No 3 still a yellow screen, I even waited three month before swapping No 2 hoping Apple had solved the issue).

I actually don't think there's a "bad batch", it's an inherent issue with this particular screen technology - specifically the LED backlighting. Maybe a year down the line they'll have improved the technology and eradicated the "yellow peril".

* First one - severe yellowing (Week 8)

* Second one (week 9) - faint yellow at the border but the top right quadrant everything white got a blueish tone. I would have kept it if it wasn't for the blueish tone :(

* Third one (week 9) - light yellow but a dark band in the screen.

Going for a refund and keeping my money until the next update or saving for a Mac Pro. It has been a sad experience but I'm happy that I still have my old and trusty imac :)

Just received my third unit and despite the apple care rep assuring me it would be checked before it was sent out, it wasn't.

Exactly the same issue :(:mad::confused:

After reading all of this....Im still in two minds as to whether to send mine back..i have a bit of backlight bleed particularly in the top right corner and also yellow tint in the bottom 2/3rds of the screen... The top left hand corner of the screen is nice and white as it should be...

.has anyone ever actually recieved an improved replacement?

Im still in my 14 day grace period, so i should be entitled to a brand new replacement should i if i take it back to the store in manchester? but then it could be the same story again? if not worse?

I have a week 53 (13 day old imac)..

I posted pics earlier in this thread..here are a few more....
