This is my second 27" iMac, I had some noticable yellowing on the first one... this one is a bit harder to tell.. but I think it has way more backlight bleed than the last one.
Should I be considering an exchange or just getting a refund till these issues have been finally fixed? Normally for a cheap sub 200 monitor I dont care that much, but this thing was 1800 after taxes, I feel like I should be getting something a bit more consistent.
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!
First set is at 50% brightness second set is at 100%

If we're supposed to believe the photo of the backlight bleed at the bottom of the picture is accurate, then what are we to make of the glaring white band at the top with its apparently glowing edges?
We know there is really no such glowing or halo around the top bar, so why would anyone think anything other than that the image is not accurate enough to draw conclusions from regarding light intensity?
your screen is yellow towards the bottom right.Hello guys,
this is my first post becasue i just received my first ever iMac 27inch 2 days ago. I ran the Yellow tint test today and here are few pictures which i took few hours ago. What do you say about them? overall screen looks okay!
You'll be using the machine for at least 3 years and if you don't want to look at that everyday then return it.Hi everyone,
I just realized I do have the yellowing on the right side of my screen a few days ago. And I'm very disappointed.Do you think the yellowing is enough to get it replaced ?
yes, I think that is the case unfortunately. Maybe, just *maybe* they should learn from Toyota and apologise and recall sooner rather than later?I would get it replaced as the screen is faulty. But ALL the replacements WILL still be yellow. Ive just given up now. Apple have gone Crapple.
spending that kind of cash for such a crappy screen doesn't make you happy. so rather send it back and maybe hold out for an update... I just sent mine back last week and it'll take some time before the replacement arrives. Mine had horizontal grey bands and the yellow tint...I don't consider my expectation to be unreasonable.
I'm not seeking an unachievable quality of screen.
I'm not expecting grade 1 quality perfect screen.
Seems to be reasonable that one should expect a screen without a yellow hue.
I'll probably play cat-and-mouse with Apple too... just keep sending it back... and if the replacements still have faulty screens and rumours of new iMacs are coming out, just get a refund.Im in the same boat (see above)
Im not going to put up with a "ok it will do" screen. I have paid a lot of money and don't see why I should put up with a yellow screen.
Ill keep sending back and sending back until they can send a good one. It's up to them how much they want to waste on sending over and over, it's in their interest to get it right.
Apple Australia has said they'd refund or replace my iMac if it happens to the replacement machine... I really don't want a refund because I need to use the computer, so hopefully the screen ok.I made 2 phone calls to Apple this afternoon after my 3rd mac with a yellow screen. im having to fight for a refund. i keep getting past on to different people on the phone. so im going to the store tomorrow and demanding a refund or im taking legal advice.
Anyone else been refused a refund?
You know those refurbs probably came from the defective iMac stockpile? With the new ones hardly getting any defect-free screens, do you think they'll replace the refurbs' screens?just got my i5 refurb today, I see the yellow tinge on the bottom of the screenanyone else with yellow tinge on their refurb quad core machines?
Same here in Oz. Replacing a machine would take a week as it needs to be sent back first...As here Apple online in New Zealand must first take the faulty imac and then they send out the new one, takes like a whole week of waiting and is my 3rd one this is by first the best screen and noisy ive had out of the 3.
Have the power supply replaced. Your screen is okay... (apart from the light bleed). Here's a picture of my week 9 replacement i7. The screen looks about as uniform as it can get. This is my 7th replacement. All of the other iMac's suffered from yellow tinge. The only problem with this one (other than back light bleed) is that the power supply buzzes whenever the power output is low. Do you think I should go the repair route and have the power supply replaced rather than attempting yet another exchange? It's kind of nice having a normal screen for once.
Can someone please check mine again, I've retaken the photos, here they are 100%/50%/0% brightness in the 3 pictures attached. This is a week 10 iMac 27" i7 which was made in Shanghai. Purchased through Apple online store guy told me all problems had been fixed. Anyway this is day 3 of using this iMac, and as I use more I find more problems, and here they are, are people experiencing these and are they considered to be a problem, consider how much I spend on this I am now looking at getting replacement as I find more problems.
1.Yellow Tinge mainly strongest on the bottom right corner looks like an L shape yellow tinge.
2.Pitch noise when brightness is not on 100%, but you cant really hear it sitting about 1m away from the iMac because some other voice is covering it.
3.Its either noisy fan or noisy hard disk, first 2 days was ok now the hard disk tends to click alot more then before. Also either hard disk fan or what so ever is noisy louder then pitch noise so I cant hear that pitch noise at all. The 21.5" iMac I got prior was alot more near silence then this machine.
4.On the 1st day my iMac was running all night, it was suppose to auto sleep with default energy saving options but, I can still hear the fan going but the screen is black. I try to wake it up with my mouse but it didnt work. If I manually sleep it I can easily wake up, seem to have problem with waking up from a long night sleep(just once so far)
5.Even without turning on the iMac, just the power pluged to a power pluge, I can hear a buzzing noise coming out from the back on my iMac is this normal?
Here are the 5 problems I've experienced so far, I may be picky but if Im spending 3500NZD on a machine Im expecting it to be perfect. Should I ask for replacement or keep this? Either way Im definitely going for an iMac so either keep or replace any suggestions?
By the way all 3 pictures are taken at night where the room lights are all turned off, taken with Sony WX1 if that helps you guys decide upon the pictures.
Thanks in advance
yep, yours is yellow... if you would prefer a replacement i suggest they set up their macs and let you pick the one that doesn't have yellowing since the ones that are defective would end up being returned by customers. Here are the pics. I'll be trying to bring it back for a refund tomorrow.
yours looks alright but except towards the very bottom, judging from the photos. it looks fine until the bottom edge of the grey block as the yellowing looks intense...Can someone please check mine again, I've retaken the photos, here they are 100%/50%/0% brightness in the 3 pictures attached.
Mate, are you in Brissie? I doubt they'll do that at my closest JB HiFi. I really do appreciate they actually acknowledged the yellowing on all of their stock machines...I'm in Australia and the retailer I bought mine from is JB Hi-Fi who have been VERY helpful and have gone out of their way to help me. They've even gone as far as set up a few iMacs for me to pick one to replace this replacement with to make sure I was happy. But I could do nothing to stop the astonishment on their faces when I showed that all 3 iMacs plus the 27 incher they had on display all had the yellow tinge problem.
So I've agreed to keep this one until they can get a new shipment in. Hopefully the new ones from Apple won't have the problem (anyone have any hope for me?)!
wow. so this is what the firmware update did, just trying to cover up the problem... you should change the colour temperature to match the left screen and see if you notice the yellowing more clearly. My wild guess is that it would, and you should just return both and wait for a newer replacement. My 3rd iMac was delivered on friday as a replacement for iMac no 2. Since I have them both here, I took some photos side by side. Both are week 10 models made in China. Both @ 50% brightness, same color profile. Photos are unedited except crop/resize.
The displays have a very different feel. Left iMac (nr 2) clearly has yellow on the right side from top to bottom, iMac nr 3 (right) has a yellow tint overall.
Perhaps in looking for a solution Apple has increased the yellowness of the screen to prevent the spots from standing out? But even iMac 3 (right) seems to have an increased yellow area on the left of the middle.
I'm currently undecided on which one to keep, or returning them both.

I got mine off the online store via virgin blue's velocity rewards site just to earn some mileage... but I guess it'd be better to buy at a physical store this time. I'm waiting for my replacement -- dunno why but Apple AU/NZ needs those defective computers back before sending out the replacement... it'll take about a week...
Apple is aware, but won't acknowledge officially. When will they learn this is an exact repeat of Toyota's recalls (except this time Steve Jobs won't be grilled with questions).deemer76 said:However, I was told that Apple is DEFINITELY aware of the yellow tinge problem, as it is fairly widespread. They will not acknowledge it officially (can you imagine all the returned computers!?), but they are working to fix it. So I hope it will be resolved, as I really love this computer in all other aspects. I'll go back in about two months to try and again, and, of course, I will test the iMac there. If no good, I'll wait longer. This is too much money to pay for a computer that looks like it was peed on. Good luck everyone and hold out hope -- because Apple is aware!
Any word on the newer iMacs? Does it still exist in the fresh stock since Apple have now acknowledged the problem?

I was in the Apple store yesterday and they put a new screen in my 21.5" (this is the 4th ive had now) and it still had noticeable yellowing in the corner and bottom. I was in the store for 2 hours and 1 hour the evening before before they gave in and took the machine back for a refund.
I WILL NEVER BUY APPLE AGAIN.
I bought an iMac today hoping for the best. Salespeople were pretty evasive about the issue when I asked casually about it.
I think its yellow, I notice it most when I'm dragging a white window around the screen.
Here are the pics. I'll be trying to bring it back for a refund tomorrow.
My first iMac was a week 9 and it had the yellow tint towards the bottom, PLUS 2 horizontal grey bands (like a poor quality photocopied document). I'll be receiving my replacement sometimes this week sent from Shanghai via Sydney.
While a yellow screen is totally expected, I think it'll be a newer batch. I ordered mine as soon as the delivery time on the site dropped to 24 hours (week before last).
