I wouldnt touch the Apple displays. Look at HP's 2229h. HD, 16:10, they rotate to portrait if you want them to. £150 each. And they come with DVI leads. And have USB2 hubs on the side. Yes just got the Mac Pro. I didnt want to wait for the new ones as i wont test Apples new products for them.

If I were going with a Mac Pro, I might consider it. However, the footprint is a little ridiculous. The giant tower sitting on the floor sucking in dust, or taking up a quarter of my desk is not appealing. I had a dual G5 when it came out, and little has changed in the tower department.

Your also talking about a 22" monitor versus a 27"...big difference.

The iMac's main strength is that its a powerful machine that takes very little room, and can be put just about anywhere.

I use 2 22" screens. So effectively 44". I agree that the Mac Pro does take up a lot of space. But its advantages are power, upgradability, resale value, choice of screen(s).

You'l need to calibrate them in system preferences>display>colour. If you've not done this before it really is easy. Tick the advanced box at the beginning.

I did the calibration, shows up on all three, just different variations.

Btw, congrats for all who got the yellow-free ones ;)

I just received a refurb i7 27" - the bottom half is very yellow.

Before I ordered it - I thought this issue had been sorted out, but apparently not. It's very discouraging.

I have a week 6 i7 that I got about two months ago that had noticeable (though not severe) yellowing on the right side. Last week I brought it in for a panel replacement. The genius I talked to said that he was given the option of ordering two panel part numbers and chose the one with a later date, though he didn't tell me what the dates actually were. Just got my machine set up again and the panel is much better -- if there's any yellowing at all, it's very minimal, so I'm happy.

I'm sorry to hear that, but this is one time in history when I'm convinced that Apple is using their refurb store to get rid of machines with "minor" flaws like yellowish displays.

I wouldn't buy a refurb iMac until the 2010 model arrives and that's assuming the 2010 model is free of similar defects.

If you're in the market for a different model then I wholeheartedly recommend the refurb store. Both my mini and touch came from there.

Correction, it had been "addressed",

hey there

i'm pretty certain that my i7 has the yellow tinge problem, it's one i ordered when they were first announced and i got it sometime during november.

am i still eligible to get it replaced?
or am i eligible to get it exchanged for a macbook pro (or something... like a refund .etc)?

i am in australia by the way.

Would be nice to be able replace it, wouldn't it?
But realistically your only option is to try to replace the display panel. If this doesn't work, than your options may open a little bit.

Just received what I assume is a week 12 core i7 27 inch according to the serial. Yellow tinge and all. Ordered it refurbed, so I would be leery of getting any refurbished iMac's. One would think that since this is an acknowledged problem Apple would definitely not allow a twice looked over computer to still have this issue. They are issuing me a refund. Guess I will wait until the next revision and hope its gone by then. I just don't have the patients to be like some who are on their 3rd or 4th replacement.

The yellow tinge is just as prevalent now as when they were first launched, it has nothing to do with yours being a refurb. I've had numerous i5's and i7's including my current week 12 i7, none of which were refurbs, and they all had yellow tinge.

Ya i gotcha.. I actually ordered a refurb purposely because I figured if it was returned (for the yellow tinge for example) and now Apple is definitely aware of it, that they would surely not allow the iMac to go out again with a problem. I just assumed refurbs sometimes end up with double the quality checks. But alas I was wrong

I'm still on the fence about even calling Apple on the yellow tinge because if I hadn't of read this thread I wouldn't have realized it. When I'm on my iMac the tinge doesn't affect my usage and I don't notice it. The only concern I really have is whether or not it could get worse over time.

Hi guys,

Just an update of my situation, I bought an imac 27 I7 from week 53, I had several problems with it, including yelow tinge, then apple gave me another computer week 11, yellow tinge again, called to the support extremely upset with this situation, they wanted to change the screen of the new computer but I said no.

Today I received another imac week 14, guess what ? yelow tinge again in the center and the left and they send me a I5 instead of a I7, I´m absolutely with rage. I don´t know what to do anymore, I´m seriously thinking in a refund.

Get your refund and move on.... This is absolutely insane...

Oh no, my iMac just shipped and is week 14 =(.

Where did yours ship from? I am somewhat surprised that mine seems to have come from the US factory (QP).

Found this info at this link. Just paste SN.

i just checked the warranty on the apple store quickly, if a defect is found on apple hardware we are allowed the choice of a free-repair, exchange for something of equal performance or a refund.

does anyone have any experience with the online education store? it's where i purchased mine... what happens if we enrolled in applecare as well?

Fixed?

So I just talked to Apple because I want to buy a 27-inch iMac but now I am so scared with the yellow tinge I will be so pissed if i get one and it is like that for the amount of money I will drop on it. The rep said that if it was a issue two months ago it has been fixed... Was she just trying to make a sale or are they really fixed?

I am concerned because it isn't like you can just go to a store and get a new replacement one it is the whole mac and I am getting is built for my needs so I am sure the wait for a replacement will be ridiculously long.

Any advise on what I should do? Should i plunge and get one? Or should I wait or even get something different? I was going to get the 27-inch iMac, 8gb RAM, 2TB Drive.... Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, if you're looking for a mac with those specs, your options are limited. A new iMac won't be released for quite some time. If you can wait and have money, a mac pro may be out in the coming months.

I personally battled with this issue for some time, but I'm hoping that the issues have been resolved or at least are down in number.

Honestly, if an iMac is what you need, just go for it. If by chance it's imperfect, you can just get a new one. Apple's good about returns, and if you really insist you need a machine I've heard it's possible to convince them to let you keep your original until the new one arrives, if you put down a CC number.

It seems like you're somewhat concerned about the turn-around time, but if you don't get one now, you'll just be waiting longer anyway. You can always get a refund rather than a replacement putting you back to square 1.

Anyway, my week 14 is coming in a couple days, so hopefully I'll be reporting back good news =).

It was "addressed". Some people are still reporting replacements being worse, than returned computers.

Nobody knows when the iMac line refresh comes, but on average we are close (see Buyer's Guide averages)...

Sorry, I must have not been clear, since I'm not sure what you're referring to. Typically after ordering it takes 1-3 days to ship, and another 2-5 to deliver. By "Week 14" I meant that is the week the iMac I ordered was built in, as indicated by the serial number.

I was just saying if time is of any issue you may as well get one now =).
