2-3 weeks, dec 24-31

Merry Christmas! Seems like this wait has been years! Bring it on! My 2007 imac is ready for some relief.

I wonder if there is a chance they might actually deliver them sooner than the expected delivery dates. I have never ordered from the Apple online store so I have no experience with this. Mine is supposed to be delivered from Dec. 27 to Jan 3 and I would really like to be able to put it under our Christmas tree.

Wow, I'm stunned at how the vast majority of people on this thread have opted for the $200 i7 upgrade. In researching the cost/benefit of each upgrade, the i7 vs i5 upgrade seemed the most controversial. Is everyone on this thread a hard core video/photo editor? Or is there a benefit to i7 that I'm missing? Or is it just an attempt to future proof your purchase?

Shipping times seem pretty stably pegged to Dec 24-31, so I can always change my config. But I haven't found a compelling reason to get an i7 processor, and instead stuck with the 3.2Ghz i5.

No, I seriously doubt everyone in this thread is looking at the upgrade as anything more as having the best possible. Nothing is future proof but the i7 may outlast the i5 if Apple opts to start chopping their line for newer machines. I looked as well and I have trouble finding the benefit of i5 over i7 at the price they're asking. I'd rather invest in RAM or something.

I guess it's a little bit of both being a hardcore user (photoshop and maya for me) and to future proof the iMac. I mean I'm already spending quite a lot of money on the system so why not spend another $200 to max it out?

I don't see a reason for going for the i5 just to save $200.

Identical delivery for me in Charlottesville, exactly same specs. But I'm replacing my 2006. Have been waiting for this new iMac all year.

You are right the difference is stuff all, the benchmarks back that up but i still went for it for pure future proofing purposes. I didn't get the fully optioned iMac when i got my 2008 model and i may have gotten another year or two out of it with those upgrades. This time im upgrading this thing to the max :D ( Except for Apples Ram lol.) and hoping to get 7 years out of it.

I went i7 as an effort to future proof, but I am also getting started dabbling in photography. The previous generation benchmarks showed about a 30% increase in raw power for a 10% price increase. I suspect this will have similar results.

[cough] Getting back on topic [cough]

I see the UK :apple: online store is now quoting 3-4 weeks for 27-inch models (rather than 2-3 weeks we had this morning).

The UK store said 2-3 weeks for the 27" iMac when i ordered it, but now its saying 3-4 weeks! Does this mean my iMac has slipped to 3-4 weeks?!?

No. 3-4wks is new orders placed now. If you check your order it should still say 2-3wks (mine does). It just means the first 'batch' of 27-inch models has gone...

U.S still surprisingly at 2-3 weeks ship time

Just ordered from Spain:

i7
8 GB
1 TB Fusion
GTX 680MX

delivery: Jan 3rd - Jan 9th

I'm getting the same dates for the same 27" now in the UK.

That is not 3-4 weeks. It's 5-6.

Is there anything I can do to make it come quicker!?

It is possible Apple has 'allocated' stock to different regions. The preorders started at approx 8:30am in UK (and Europe) i.e. when the US were still tucked up in bed. It wouldn't be fair if we had snapped up all the first batch before the US woke up ;)

I think that is 'working weeks' i.e. assuming everything shuts up for (at least) a week over Christmas/New Year.

Also the 2-3 weeks is when it dispatches but then it can take upto a week to deliver (probably from China?)

Maybe order it in US, ship it to somewhere close to an airport and fly there and bring it back... :)
