Im surprised how many people have only ordered the 1TB fusion drive, my storage needs surpassed 1TB years ago. Why did you choose the 1TB option? For bootcamp compatibility? Storage on externals? Not much to store?

I cannot tell you if this is true, but during my travels I heard that the 3TB drive could be possessed by an ancient evil spirit or even demon. I called my Rabbi before ordering, who mysteriously hung up on me, which I believe gives these rumors more credibility. Legend or not, I believe this to be the main reason.

I do film editing so nearly all my working files are stored externally.

Wow, I'm stunned at how the vast majority of people on this thread have opted for the $200 i7 upgrade. In researching the cost/benefit of each upgrade, the i7 vs i5 upgrade seemed the most controversial. Is everyone on this thread a hard core video/photo editor? Or is there a benefit to i7 that I'm missing? Or is it just an attempt to future proof your purchase?

Obviously i5 to i7 wont provide much real world difference in most situations for most people, but you have to put everything into perspective, we are talking about a close to $3000 machine here, a $200 upgrade to bump the cpu to i7 is a no brainer, and also when it's time to sell, many casuals still think i7 is a lot better.

Now if this is a <$1000 machine, then no i wont pay $200 to upgrade the cpu.

That is a beast of a computer, what will you be using it for?

This is a replacement for my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. I use my desktop as my general purpose machine, so it gets used for everything from web surfing / emails, to opening up huge Adobe CS files from my team, to video editing (not professionally, just home movies), to playing the occasion video games (really excited about the upcoming new Simcity).

I think the hardest decision was the outrageously expensive 768GB SSD. I've been using SSDs for a while and could never go back to a regular spinning drive. Plus, I don't like being a beta tester for new tech like Fusion (and the idea of having the traditional HDD fail like it has on many of my friends' iMacs). Lastly, I want to have the absolute fastest performance for all my files (roughly 400GB) on the system (my NAS stores the rest of the large files I use). So, I'll partition 128 or 256 GB for Windows 7 and keep the rest Mac OS.

This is a beast of an iMac (my first iMac after using Mac Pros and Power Macs for years), but I believe that it will compliment my fully loaded 15" Retina Macbook Pro well.

I cannot stop laughing ...

Ordered on the Italian Apple Store with student discount (2.565 euros) just a few minutes before the first slipping of delivery dates (I believe there'll be more) : my confirmation mail says "2-3 weeks for shipment, delivery January 2nd-3rd" ...

It's my first Mac ever, coming from an HP Pavilion bought 3/4 years ago ... I should notice some difference hopefully ! :p

Just ordered, delivery estimate Dec 31 - Jan 7th =(

For the record:
27" iMac
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) & User's Guide
Accessory Kit

And I bit on Apple Care too. Too nice a box to not have it covered for 3 years.

Goodbye 2008 Mac Pro!

This is to replace my Early 2009 24" iMac 3.06

400GB aperture photo database, although I've recently made the jump to Lightroom and am splitting it into separate by year catalogs. Will be interesting to see how Fusion Drive handles jumping in and out of large photo stores like that.

Mine will also be used for editing my D4 images (16 megapixel) in Lr and 1080p video from my NEX. I've got over 100k images in a single catalog now, intend to start a second catalog fresh for 2013 and keep all my 2004-2012 in a separate catalog that is only for archive searches. I have been VERY frustrated at the slowness of my existing box in simply going from frame to frame, it can take 8-10 seconds between images. I am hoping the speed bump and the smaller catalog can get this down to a manageable speed.

Dec. 21-28 (expedited)

27"
3.2GHz
8GB RAM (will buy 16GB additional to install myself)
3TB SATA (gonna use an external boot disk)
680MX

$2069 + tax

Delivery estimate was Dec. 24-31, but someone on another thread mentioned that they called and got upgraded to expedited shipping for free, so I gave it a try. I called and asked how much expedited shipping is and she told me, "I'm not going to charge you - I don't think it will make much of a difference." So now my delivery estimate is Dec. 21-28. Not a huge difference, but better.

Just bought. Had to wait to fuss around with the EPP discount.

(So worth it all, since after calling I was able to save $190 woot!)
Bought a 27" + i7 + fusiondrive.

In Canada.....

3 Jan - 8 Jan by Standard Shipping

How were you able to get an EPP discount? My EPP online store doesn't reflect any discount for iMacs.. do they help you with it over the phone?

Yes I did it over the phone. And I am not sure whether I just got lucky or not... but I was not the only one successful in doing this.

called for expedited shipping - added for free. bingo.
Asked if I could switch my magic mouse to a magic trackpad, they said would have to cancel order, I said no thanks, I'll just keep my current order.

What's the Accessory Kit btw?

Apple supervisor rep says that all these 27" pre-orders being new lead time products, will all come expedited anyway no matter how shipping is selected. I can confirm that is was the case when the Macbooks came out this summer and I BTO'ed one.

i7
1tb fusion
GTX 680MX

from puerto rico

I have to wait at least 6 weeks before it will get here

I called Apple as well and got the expedited delivery. Note that it is expedited delivery not expedited shipping. It will still ship in between 2 and 3 weeks. Holding my fingers crossed it will be 2 weeks or less. They were able to expedite my BTO 27" iMac 3.4GHz i7 w/ GTX 680MX from 27 Dec. - 3 Jan. to 24 Dec. - 2 Jan.

What exactly did you say when you called to get expedited delivery? I'm going to call when I'm off work and give it a shot.
