The Apple reps and even supervisors I spoke with insisted that they are all expedited shipping no matter how it is set in the order. Should we believe this? Did anyone see any difference in the July 2012 Macbook Pro BTO's for instance? I'm not sure if I should press for expedited or take their word for it. Maybe that's; why they are so willing for some to change for free?

i just called. the agent said not sure if itll make a difference, however she updated my order to next day shipping and my est time went from dec 24 to dec 21-28. hopefully it helps. it was also free

I just said I would like to have it before Christmas and if there was a chance I could upgrade to expedited shipping. The gentleman then told me all iMacs leave the factory with standard shipping but they could expedite the delivery free of charge. Just be honest and tell them you want it faster and they will be happy to oblige :D

I tried that twice and they said no but somehow they offered to throw in a trackpad, meh I'll settle for that.

They upgraded mine just in case, (now says Dec 21-28) but they reminded me that when they did that with the iphone 5's, some of the orders got cancelled and kicked back. That would be a cruel backfire . . .

Woah that would be bad!

Cancelling iMac order placed last night

If you bought a iMac with the delivery date set for the first week of January and included the Applecare warranty, you will lose 6 -7 weeks warranty coverage since the policy states the Applecare is activated at the "time of purchase". And yes, that also includes the 14 day return policy which means you won't be able to return the iMac.

I spoke to three people at Applecare and I belive someone at Apple who confirmed this. I'm very disappointed. I have waited a very long time to buy the iMac and will have to wait for it to be in stock. To give up 6 weeks, or more, of warranty coverage is too much. I hope someone at Apple will see this message to change their current policy.

I actually called 3 times in total... the first time they refused to expedite it for me...the second time i called, they made my order from the 12/24-12/30 to 12/21-12/28 or something....then I called a third time about the order and they changed it to 12/19-12/26. hahaha pretty funny stuff.

I tried to get a free magic trackpad but they wouldn't give it to me :(

I would check Apple's web site out. Seems like you have been given duff advice  Not sure about the start date of Applecare though.

Items purchased at the Apple Online Store that are received between October 27, 2012 and December 25, 2012, may be returned through January 7, 2013

http://store.apple.com/us/help/returns_refund

You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it. For an Apple iPhone, you have 30 calendar days.

This is not correct.

I just spoke with someone at Apple online chat and they said this:

"The warranty on the Macs would indeed start at the time of purchase, however what that really means is from the time that the payment is processed at which point the Mac actually ships out. So at most, you should be losing about 7 days of the warranty, rather than the entire time before the items would ship out."

I then asked this:

So if I add the AppleCare protection plan for iMac - Auto Enroll right now and purchase my 27" iMac today, it won't ship for 3-4 weeks. So when will the AppleCare actually activate?

The Apple rep's answer was:

"The order would actually show you that it is "processing" for that 3-4 week period, as it would not actually charge you until the order has shipped out. At that point you would be notified via email with further instructions on how to track the order through the carrier, and that's when the warranty would actually go into effect."

Ordered mine.. dec 24-31st delivery.

No fusion for me, I'd rather replace the internal 3.5" drive with a 512gb SSD or put a OWC Aura in the SSD socket, or both :). Large storage via Thunderbolt array.

27-inch iMac
Available to ship: 2 - 3 Weeks
Delivers Dec 24 - Dec 31 by Standard Shipping
Part Number: Z0MS
With the following configuration:

3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad

Looking at the teardown of the 21" if you don't order it with the fusion drive out the door it looks like they aren't even soldering on the socket to make it happen after the fact.

i7
32gb ram
3tb fusion drive
nVidia 680MX

Delivery date between 20th-24th December. When I bought my iPhone 5, estimated delivery was 19th November, it arrived 8 days earlier ... so who knows

How did you get Apple to move your delivery date earlier? I was able to get them to upgrade my shipping to expedited free of charge, but they couldn't change the delivery date... Please give me any tips.

Wow almost 200 responses only about a handful of people went for the base 27. My base 27 with fusion is arriving between the 27th and the 3rd

After reading about the yellow screen on the 21" I'm kinda hoping my 27" is pushed back...in that maybe they correct the screen problem if there is a big fuss from returns about it (highly doubt they would acknowledge and fix them this quick but you never know)

Just called and got expedited shipping and a magic mouse thrown in(already ordered the trackpad).

My arrival is now Dec 21 - Dec 31 instead of Dec 27 - Jan 3.:D

:D:apple:

I think Apple has some interesting protocols in place to handle people who aren't "satisfied." I called merely to switch to expedited shipping. Was more than happy to pay for it since I have a few time constraints. The rep told me that all orders are sent expedited, so even if I'd paid for it I wouldn't have been charged for this preorder's faster shipping. Interesting, I said.

He then asked me if this was an inconvenience to me. After I said "yes", he offered me Magic Mouse for free (I ordered with a Trackpad). I said yes, of course, to the offer. But it was interesting that he WANTED me to say it was an inconvenience, so that he could "fix it." I'd love to see the Customer Care guidebook they have at Apple.

*EDIT*

Yep, Magic Mouse coming via free Next-Day shipping, delivers December 4.

Interestingly, my 27" iMac says the same thing now in terms of shipping speed.

I had a very similar story to yours wanted to pay to get it quicker but couldn't and they threw in the Magic Mouse for free, thing is I don't even care for the mouse really but would feel kind of wrong selling it. If I do sell it could I get in trouble for it?

I doubt it. It's just a goodwill gesture, and you're not being charged for it.

Well...the second time i called, they "expedited" it for me and it changed the delivery date...I called a third time and asked if there was any way I could get it before Christmas and they changed it even earlier for me.

Literally just say that it's pretty important that you get it before christmas i guess :p (maybe say it's a surprise gift for your son/daughter/father or something)

It's shipping to Toronto, ON Canada. I ordered it early friday morning and called in to upgrade at no additional costs to expedited shipping.

I tried to get the expedited shipping but the rep strongly advised me against it since it would almost guarantee to be delayed further.I also got the impression that the higher ups told the sales team to halt offering free expedited shipping because the system will delay it further. Im thinking the higher ups are tired of letting that 30 bucks go. I did manage to get a Free Magic Mouse. Im not to bummed since no matter what , it will not be here before Christmas. Maybe I should have requested an empty iMac box to put under the Tree.
