Yes, like you and many others I'd too like to see a bit of form-factor sacrificed for better cooling etc. allowing for meatier GPUs.

Or at least easier access to open it up and changing thermal paste for a better one. This may help a bit without asking too much! jajaja

Just noticed the cut down shaders!

I just noticed that the m395 clock speed seems to be 834mhz... but the specs I have found for the m395x is listed as 723mhz.

So the m395 is slower, but with more memory?

The specs I found is for a standard m395x though (its used in some alienware laptops etc), and I can't find anything for the m395 at all, so I don't know if apple have overclocked the 395 or what... seems odd to me, but I'm used to nvidea. I have been hoping this imac would be an upgrade to my i7 3.5ghz with the 780m 4gb.

I would imagine that the m395x has the full 2048 shaders.

Oh, here's a m290x run of valley.

I'm not sure why it says windows 8-- I'm running 10.

agreed, a PC performance is always going to be better for half the price. I have an i5 4670k with GTX970 and it destroys the iMac. That said I actually prefer playing on the iMac so I am selling the PC.

Just been playing with MSI afterburner, managed to overclock to 910mhz so far but the temps are 90-95c but the fan still isn't ramping up. Anybody know of any fan control software that works in bootcamp?

Intel XTU CPU benchmark. The imac was pulling 100w from the wall through this benchmark

Those temperatures are a worry...wouldn't want to let it go much higher than that. I don't think it's possible to control the fan in iMacs, I always thought it was locked...I may be wrong. How quickly are you getting those temperatures?

The fans didn't used to be locked, I used to use a program but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.
On stock settings the temps top out at 89c, it takes about 10 minutes to get there and fans stay on 1200pm. I guess the fans won't kick up until late 90s like my rmbp

Wow proves what a great card the m290x is for a 4 year old tech. Maybe I will return my new mac and keep the old one

Also I own the 395m not the 390, 390 will probably be a fair bit slower

Use macs fan control to monitor GPU temp and fan speed, it works also in Windows, remember that a M295X runs at 100 degrees drawing a lot of power so the clock will drop @ 724 in certain scenarios, if this one is cooler and draws less power, with a stable clock of 8xx it is better than the M295X.

Do you have WoW or Diablo 3 ?

Thanks Astelith, will give it a try.

I don't own WOW or D3 sorry, I mostly play RTS or FPS

so far its been faster in 3dmark 11 than a m290x but only a little faster in COH2
We really need more benchmarks to compare. I may install windows back on my m290x iMac so I can compare my results depending on what games Jerwin owns

My library is rather small. I've only been using windows for a month or so. I may be able to get a steam share of Rome, but that's the only point of commonality.
