Indeed, this problem has become bigger and bigger in a very short period of time. Ordered mine on 7/12 and had a message yesterday that it would be delivered in two days, all I see now is 'Exception' when I browse to the UPS site to track the passage.

Hm, as an all time windows users the 27" but to be 100% honest, I kinda regret it already. What is best to do when I have one of the known problems, call the support service of the online site or visit a reseller? I ordered it online and didn't buy it at a reseller's.

Fingers crossed?

Ordered my 27in on November 19th. Last I heard, Apple told me it *MIGHT* ship by December 21st.

So much for ships in 5-7 business days.

27" iMac Problems

I just got a new i5 27", and it works perfectly. As a matter of fact, since 1990 I have purchased over 120 Macs for both work and for personal use, and only two ever had real problems. One was a 17" MBP that worked for three years before the screen started to flicker. Even though it was two years out of warrantee, Apple gave me a brand new unit for free. Do you think Dell or HP would have done that? Doubt it.

wow this looks bad... I'd be so angry if I got a machine which such failures... (I know it "happens") guess I got to stick with my mb07 for the next years to 100&ly protect myself against such things ;)

Why would you be angry? If you receive an iMac with a fault, you return it and get a new one. No reason to be emotional about it.

I think it's caused by video ram throtling.

We had bouncing screen issue(looks similar to this one) with radeons hd4850 on hacks, which was dropping its memory clocks from 1000mhz in 3d mode to 750mhz in 2d mode. custom bios or snow leo was fixing it tho.

My iMac (C2D 27") was on a delay. Ordered Dec 9.

Just checked and it's shipped!!!

Looks like I will be waiting till the next revision before I buy an imac with a 27" screen. Being an early adopter is not without its share of growing pains, however this current release of imacs seem to be much more prone to defect than other releases.

Agreed. It looks like Apple is working on addressing this whole mess but it just further proves that buying a REV A product makes you the ever popular beta tester.

received my i7 on Friday, 12/11

I received my 27" i7 on Friday and it is working great. Seems like I am one of the lucky ones. I ordered it on Nov 27 and they said it would deliver until next week and it showed up last Friday. This machine is amazing and SO fast. Glad I was lucky, fingers crossed it stays that way. :D

Yeah, it's not like it's a huge hassle or anything (at least a 30 minute initial phone call, box the malfunctioning iMac up, take the iMac to FedEx or UPS, wait for Apple to process your RMA, wait apparently weeks for Apple to build your replacement iMac, pay your credit card bill when in fact you don't even have the product, the thought of "Do I have enough credit to let Apple place another $1700+ authorization on my debit/credit card?", be home so you can sign for your iMac again, the added stress of will it make it before Christmas if it's a present, etc).

To top it off, it's Christmas and Apple's call volume and ordering system is at its peak for the year.

If I just purchased a $1700+ machine that had these issues, I would be angry too. Returns are a PITA. Especially this time of the year.

Here is a picture of my first 27" crashing. It also had the flickering problem.

i5 or i7

I'm not concerned about the shipping delay however do I order the i7 and hope everything is okay or do I go to my local apple store and purchase an i5 and test it right there in the store?

I nearly did not believe my eyes, I am so used to seeing certain people on the site who are so Pro Apple, and thought this was the closest to a negative post that I have ever seen you post. Alas my eyes deceived me, I thought it was LTD.

100% agree with you and Rev A, though i like the 27" too much and my 2nd one is one the way and will be here in 2 days, fingers crossed on this one not flickering.

Still waiting...

I have been waiting on my replacement i7 since November 12th. I have already had my delivery date pushed back two weeks once.

I've read elsewhere that they are replacing the graphics card. True? I don't know. If it is has there been any report or speculation as to what graphics card they are replacing it with?

I have the flicker and the crashing dock effect on my i7. Replacement ordered, but not due until the 5th January 2010.

Thanks Apple, not.

Hmm awesome stats mate, but i find that bit hard to believe.

Below is for laptops but you get the idea.

Thing is, components die, if you are telling me you did not have a HD faliure in 120 macs since 1990, no way! Sorry mate, individual components in computers are not that reliable, and that is nothing to do with Apple. I would dream to have a HD that lasted for more then 10 years.

Unholy crap!

This was actually the first time that I have been considering buying an Apple desktop instead of a MacBook (MB/Pro/Air). I even recommended the basic C2D and the top quad-core options to my best friend, who is ordering the cheaper one for christmas. He's new to Macs, so he didn't want to spend a whole fortune on something he might not like. Phew...

Ironically, the reason behind my preference for a desktop is my deep dissatisfaction about a long line of portable Apple computers. But again, I should have known not to trust a first dev/gen Apple product, even if it looks so much like the previous model and has a four-years old processor inside.

Meanwhile, my MacBook Pro (2009, Aug) is emitting a high-pitched noise and it started to annoy me really badly. Stupid me, I thought that the constant fan noise was bad! Honestly, I am soooo, sooooo unhappy about Apple that when I see a flashy advert and I think of the reality and all the manufacturing defects, I want to slap the whole board of directors.

I, as a consumer can fairly say that this is not for my benefit. I am seriously considering ditching Apple's expensively packaged PCs and go for the real stuff. Can I have OS X in a virtual environment?

Got mine yesterday from the West Quay Apple Store in Southampton. It's perfect.

I returned a few MacBooks and MacBook Pros there. They tend to have shipments with the same annoyances (which is natural), but they might have remainder of the same stock many months later. For example, misaligned keys on the 1st dev. 'prototype' unibody MacBooks or the constant fan noise on the current version.

Finally. Still no official word from apple though..

Indeed, kind of funny isn't it? Problems have been there for more than a month and now they take actions by postponing the deliveries.

Am I whining? Maybe! But I did expect more costumer support or at least some decent update about the problems that people are facing right now.

Don't know whether I should be more annoyed at the fact that I don't have it yet, or at the fact that chances are big that I will have issues whenever I might receive it.

Mac will have to do alot to make me feel at home and re-welcome me in their 'team'

I forgot this...

We pay Apple premiums just so that we don't have to face such things that the unfortunate and unprivileged peasants of the PC world do. I am disappointed, but knowing Apple they will set everything all right.
