Not sure of your point

Hmm awesome stats mate, but i find that bit hard to believe.

Below is for laptops but you get the idea.

Thing is, components die, if you are telling me you did not have a HD faliure in 120 macs since 1990, no way! Sorry mate, individual components in computers are not that reliable, and that is nothing to do with Apple. I would dream to have a HD that lasted for more then 10 years.

I am not saying that they are all still running - most of them have gone to the great computer graveyard in the sky long ago. Though I do think my Powerbook 120 with 2 megs of RAM is still out there somewhere. My point was that during their typical useful life (about 3 - 4 years, though some lasted much longer) they all worked fine except the 17" MPB, and a Centris 610 from the late 1990's.

And that Samsung has a TN-panel. Absolutely no comparison to the Apple IPS panel.

Which is why many consider the new iMac to be the best value Apple has had in a while. If you get a chance to see a good screen in person, it is absolutely stunning, it is hard to take your eyes off it.

I just got off the phone with macconnection.com, from whom I ordered my i5 on Nov. 30th. The guy said they were still slated to ship this Friday. Then I told him my concern about this, since I'm going on vacation next week and he said "to be perfectly honest I don't think these will ship until January."

The "next friday" line, which they gave me for last friday too, is but a line to keep customers on the hook. When he said January, he sounded like he was being straightforward.

Too clever by half

Well, I just went to Best Buy where they had the base 21.5 and 27 inchers on display. Both monitors were set to near-max brightness under the bright lights and I was unable to appreciate any "yellowing." Unfortunately, I would need more quality time with them to definitively state that there was absolutely no color gradient from top-bottom.

My clever plan of leaving my credit card at home (to avoid a rash purchase) was offset somewhat by the inclusion of my wife on my little outing.

"See dear, this is the new 21 1/2 inch iMac we're gonna get to replace your old computer. Isn't it cool!?!?"

"Oooooohhhhh! I like the BIG one!"

D'oh!

Hi,

Just to add another voice to the throng; I am in the UK and ordered the 27" iMac immediately on announcement, and it arrived about 10 days after that.

Unfortunately I have been experiencing exactly the video issues reported here, just like in the video. I took a video of the problem on my iPhone and was going to show it to the Apple techs, but now I know that there are others with this problem I may just be able to refer to it.

It's weird, and annoying, but at least I won't have to argue the toss if this is as wide an issue as it seems to be.

I wonder whether it is a hardware fault that will need parts replaced, or whether it is something that can be fixed in software.

Floop

I ordered mine on Black Friday and still nothing. Maybe I should be glad that they changed my shipping date 3 times. It's now scheduled for Jan 6th. Maybe I'll get one later than a week 50 and it wont have any problems.

I just checked my Shipping Status and it says 'Prepared for shipping'...but it still says it'll ship on the 6th of Jan.....hmmmm.

EXACTLY. They should be ashamed of themselves. Fellow forum members spent thousands, including me, only to have a sh*tty product on our desks that needs replacement.

All too common a problem with Apple now. I am furious with my laptops, every one has been back for a problem. Half the people I know with a MBP since 2008 have had problems.

I hope their market share crashes so that Apple starts to take these problems seriously.

And frankly, give the problems with Snow Leopard, it's not much of an upgrade. Yes, I'm sour.

Got it today

Got it today, ordered it on Nov 28th. So far- no flickering or any of "yellow" on display. Everything looks sharp and is super super fast.

Can I have OS X in a virtual environment?
OSX86 on Desktops is getting easier and Easier. I have been able to get it working on mor than 90% of the machines i have tried it on and these are mostly old pentium 4's with modern hardware its even easier cause you can use unmodified kernels. If you build one yourself you can pick out hardware that apple is also using so your guaranteed that it will continue to work for quite some time.

I think YOU failed business 101. ;) Ever heard of Supply and Demand? Especially around xmas time, many companies with popular products don't overstock in order to keep the customers salivating for more. If it's too easy to get nobody wants it. The Xbox, PS3 and the Nintendo have been famous for this and they have been very successful at it.

Well if you're right then you should buy the stock right now. If it's actually a demand issue, then put your money where your mouth is big boy. Here is a quick back-of-the-envelope for you. Apple addressed the issue today and said it is a demand problem (this is huge if you invest money because it's "guidance" by management. Maybe Goldman Sachs is right. They think that AAPL is good for $631MM in revenue for the iMac during the quarter. That's 5k less units (485k vs 480k) than they did last year during the quarter. If you look across the rest of the Street's work they'll basically tell you the same thing. For kicks lets say Goldman is wrong and that the number is higher. Let's say twenty percent (that should be enough to cause a massive shortage like you think). So 576k units. Given the average selling price ($1,126 that is lower than the 27" iMac but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) that will boost earnings 1% (conservatively) and enough to give you a nice pop in your stock price.

This is actually quite simple and I don't know anything about stocks. So Goldman (and the Street) will come out and revise earnings upwards soon or AAPL will report better than expected earnings (unless another product line tanks). Either way you get a nice pop in your stock price.

I ordered it!

About 5 days ago I ordered the 27". It said that it will ship in 2 weeks, when 2 days later I got an email from Apple saying that it has just been shipped. So, I don't know about this?!?!?!

I was awaiting a replacement iMac through my insurance company. They were supplying a new 27" iMac as a replacement for my old 24" imac.

I was advised by the IT company replacing the iMac that there was a delay of 4 to 6 weeks for Apple resellers as they did not have enough stock due to high demand and the 'newness' of the screens.

I then got a cash settlement and will be buying a quad core iMac from the high street Apple store as they have plenty of stock.

Also, the lead time reported on the Apple store for the 27" iMacs was 7-10 days up until yesterday when this changed to 2 weeks. This is more likely to be because they have now passed the 'order by' date to receive before christmas. So if you order now it WILL be 2 weeks. You know, holidays n all!!

Sounds like a lie to me, Jigsaw is an official Apple reseller and they have plenty of 27" iMacs in stock for next day shipping.

Yes, but Jigsaw doesn't have quad-cores - and infuriatingly, they lie consistently about availability; I ordered an i7 on 11th November having been assured by their sales staff that they were getting stock in in "10-12 days" of that model - it's now 15th December, they took the money from my cards instantly (rather than pre-authorising), and I still don't have a Mac, though I do have a refund.

Had I ordered from Apple I'd have the i7 on my desk right now, and Apple gave me a lower price. I only trusted Jigsaw because they offered faster delivery.

In the past I've had no issues with them, but the misleading behaviour and delays on the i7 system mean I will not buy from Jigsaw again; having had the refund, I'm now sitting back and waiting for i7s to be available from Apple with a reasonable delivery schedule.

Lie consistently? Sounds like you had a bad experience once, and Jigsaw's sales staff go by dates they are told by Apple, so if it's anyone's fault it's Apple's. I've shopped with them for years and never experienced anything like what you're talking about.

And the Apple Store ones did say shipping in five days, but that was a lie too. The truth is that nowhere in the UK has reliable and fast shipping on the i7s because there are no stocks. Whoever you bought from you'd have had the same experience...and now you've made it worse for yourself by being impatient because you're at the end of an even longer queue.

Well I am always annoyed by people buying junk from Dell just because it's cheap.
Everyone knows Dell doesn't make good hardware. If you want quality, always stick with Apple.
