No more 30"...??

That would be pretty strange. Going smaller for the largest display seems a stepping backward IMHO.
Hopefully something like a 32" orso will come along. :)

I expect they will cost a more than screens from most other sources, and that's fine to an extent because Apple tends to release far better screens than most companies, but I hope the price difference won't be too great. The current prices on their displays are absolutely ridiculous. I hope the phrase 'competitively priced' can be applied to their new release.

I bet nothing comes out tomorrow. Wait until August. :D

And September for iPod upgrades.

Then nothing until January, at the earliest.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Better be available in matte..

I'd assume they'll be discontinuing the 30" Cinema Display, so they have to offer this in matte. An all glossy display lineup isn't great..

Never thought I'd be happy to see a glossy vs. matte post. :D

I can see the displays being released tomorrow, but not the iMacs or Mac Pros.

The desktops won't be out until the Fall.

Apple displays are so expensive, I could never consider buying one. Happy with my 24" 1920x1200 BenQ I got for $270, thank you very much. Great quality, great response time, and matte.

How about a 21.5" iMac with a 3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo and USB 3.0 for 1099.99 ... :)))) I would buy one the second it was released. I just want a mac with USB 3.0, or else I will have to build a hackintosh.

New iMacs during the back to school promotion would seem to be unusual. But maybe they figure most students get laptops these days.

Awesomeness !!! I really hope the imacs come out later.. I assume the price for the 27" cinema display will be really high, better to get a 27" entry level imac instead..

Time for Change

16:9??!!

C'mon! These are computer monitors! Apple should afix these to 16:10. Period.

Apple had gone with the 16:10 for a while, i believe so you could edit 16:9 video with room for a control banner...seems logical. I think the 16:9 imac looks much better from a design perspective...but with 16:10 v:9, IMHO the difference is purely preference and semantical. Ha ha, as with everything in life! Stay classy friends:)

5$ says the store goes down tomorrow morning, everyone has a heart attack, predictions abound over 2 hours as to new Mac Pros, iMacs and displays. Credit cards get emptied and are ready and finally it comes back up with...

iPhone 4 pre-orders for the 18 new countries that get it on the 30th.

Now, I'm almost always wrong when it comes to these things, so I'm throwing this out in the vain hopes that I am again wrong.

Probably the most egregious piece of Apple abandonware right now is the 30" Cinema Display.

It's still TFT (!!) and when you look at it in the store next to any other display you would swear its defective because there is virtually no contrast or brightness.

It's an abomination that Apple should even be selling such an outdated technology. I mean, even Dell is using LED IPS displays on both it's 30" displays.

Of course, not only are they still selling it, but it still costs $1800.

WTF.

Gruber never leaks information like this as a guess. He is too well connected, and that's probably his reward for being the Paul Thurrott of the Mac community. I can say with absolute confidence those who have been waiting for new iMacs and Mac Pros to have their credit cards ready tomorrow morning. This refresh will be happening.

I can see the displays being released tomorrow, but not the iMacs or Mac Pros.

The desktops won't be out until the Fall.

That's a long time considering they're running out of imacs and mac pros already. You think apple will leave them unavailable for that long?

The painful reality of Apple Cinema Displays

So... I can usually put up a pretty decent argument when it comes to justifying the cost/value porposition of Apple computers and their mobile gadget lineup. I have never been able to come to a personal, reasonable agreement that the Apple Cinema Display is actually good value.

Maybe the new LED ones are, but the reality is:

- the LCD panels were never exclusive to Apple (sorry, all you folk that continuously bray about how amazing the picture is; it's the same as the Sharp, and uses an LG/Phillips panel, so there are likely others, such as Dell, that have the same effing panels)

- the Cinema Display was _always_ lacking the ports and features (multi-input PiP/divided screen/usb hub) of other competitors

- the Cinema Display was almost always 50% more than the nearest competitor

Spending more != getting more, in this case. I look forward to seeing what Apple might do to their display lineup that brings them back into the game, because imho right now the Cinema Display is so far out, they're having a tailgater in the wrong parking lot.
