Glossy/Matte doesn't bother me at all. However, i hope those who desire it, get it!

My only request is that, if the new LCD's come in 27" size, that it is an identical match to the 27" iMac height and design.

For a long time i used my Mac Pro with a matching pair of 23" alu displays. This setup is now at my office and i use a 27" i7 iMac at home. I would love to be able to sit a 27" LCD next to it that is a perfect match.

Here we go, again. I am praying this time it's true, but I'll only believe it when I see it.:)

AidenShaw's gonna be happy for once I think.

LOL! Um, no. Not until Steve Jobs dies and they shut down the company and give refunds to all the shareholders.

As for the new displays, here's hoping Apple will bridge the premium pricing gap on these from excruciating-irrational to painful-but-worth-it.

Apple had gone with the 16:10 for a while, i believe so you could edit 16:9 video with room for a control banner...seems logical. I think the 16:9 imac looks much better from a design perspective...but with 16:10 v:9, IMHO the difference is purely preference and semantical. Ha ha, as with everything in life! Stay classy friends:)

I disagree.

Gruber never leaks information like this as a guess. He is too well connected, and that's probably his reward for being the Paul Thurrott of the Mac community.

Gruber would be extremely displeased to hear this particular comparison. ;)

Time to get some more stock!

I predict historic high results for this quarter. Time to get some more stock!

I'm sure this will happen, all three products are long overdue and who said Apple can't release new desktops? They updated all there Macbook's last year. I'm not really expecting a huge change in the iMacs, maybe just speed bumps on graphic cards and quad cores included in every model. Somewhat a ram and hard drive bump also. Been waiting to purchase one.

I've heard some whispers too about Mac Pro tomorrow so lets hope it turn out to be true

Apple displays are so expensive, I could never consider buying one. Happy with my 24" 1920x1200 BenQ I got for $270, thank you very much. Great quality, great response time, and matte.

Yea except your little BenQ display doesn't come close to Apples displays when it comes to picture quality.

There is a reason why they cost as much as they do. It doesn't matter if the display is from Apple, Dell etc. etc. When you use a IPS panel it will cost a lot more because it is a much better panel. TN panels are cheap and can't compare to a IPS display.

That being said I would except Apples 27" display to cost $1200 - $1300. Will have some speakers and a few USB ports. USB3 would be nice to have as well.

Dell charges $1099 for theres http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=224-8284

Probably the most egregious piece of Apple abandonware right now is the 30" Cinema Display.

It's still TFT (!!) and when you look at it in the store next to any other display you would swear its defective because there is virtually no contrast or brightness.

It's an abomination that Apple should even be selling such an outdated technology. I mean, even Dell is using LED IPS displays on both it's 30" displays.

Of course, not only are they still selling it, but it still costs $1800.

WTF.

Uh ? I'm looking at Dell's site right now, they sell 2 30" monitors, the 3007WFP and 3008WFP. Granted they are cheaper than the ACD and offer more connection options, both are CCFL backlit IPS panels. Both are TFT. Like the ACD...

Maybe you could point out the LED IPS display ?

- the LCD panels were never exclusive to Apple (sorry, all you folk that continuously bray about how amazing the picture is; it's the same as the Sharp, and uses an LG/Phillips panel, so there are likely others, such as Dell, that have the same effing panels)
Only qualification to add, here, is that not all LCD panels are created equally. There are extremely low quality and extremely high quality LCD panels out there, and everything in between. Quality of construction in the final product also plays a part here. There's no defending Apple's current Cinema Display pricing—technology and pricing has progressed while they have not kept pace—but there can be a massive difference between a $200 monitor and an $800 monitor. Using the computer for general crap? Go cheap. Professional who needs advanced color accuracy and other monitor capabilities? You've got a decision to make.

It will happen. Gruber knows. He has a lot of friends at Apple, he often sends coded messages dealing with small facts when he reports something. Hell, even Steve Jobs has been quoting him once or twice recently.

Note the way he breaks the story without revealing too much information. It's just enough to create a nice buzz while allowing Apple to confirm all the juicy details later. :)

Man, if only my desk (or my apartment for that matter) had space for a 27" iMac and another 27" screen next to it, that combo would be awesome! Crossing fingers for tomorrow though.

We are all hearing these same whispers. The trouble is we are just whispering to each other. Hopefully, and sooner or later, one of us will be correct.

...as he is *known* to do...

From Dictionary.app:

wont |wônt; wōnt|
adjective [ predic. ] poetic/literary
(of a person) in the habit of doing something; accustomed : he was wont to arise at 5:30 every morning.

noun ( one's wont) formal or humorous
one's customary behavior in a particular situation : Constance, as was her wont, had paid her little attention.

verb ( 3rd sing. present wonts or wont ; past wont or wonted ) archaic
make or be or become accustomed : [ trans. ] wont thy heart to thoughts hereof | [ intrans. ] sons wont to nurse their parents in old age.

So yes, the original wording can sound awkward, but it's technically correct.

OT, I'm glad the new iMacs are coming out sooner rather than later. All the better to decide if Apple is serious about their putting decent stuff in their desktops, or if one has no recourse but to make a Hackintosh for the time being.

- the LCD panels were never exclusive to Apple (sorry, all you folk that continuously bray about how amazing the picture is; it's the same as the Sharp, and uses an LG/Phillips panel, so there are likely others, such as Dell, that have the same effing panels)

- the Cinema Display was _always_ lacking the ports and features (multi-input PiP/divided screen/usb hub) of other competitors

- the Cinema Display was almost always 50% more than the nearest competitor

I could justify them pretty easily. Not all panels are created equal and Apple's Cinema Displays are based on SIPS LCD panels. LCD displays using similar or same panel do not cost whole lot less.

For instance, Dell's cheaper TN-based LCD display (e.g., ST2410) costs $340 less than IPS-based counterpart (UltraSharp U2410). U2410 is still cheaper than Apple's by $300 or so, which is not insignificant, but let's not forget that Apple's Cinema Display has LED backlighting, webcam, MacBook Pro docking cable, and decent set of speakers.

Hmm well it sounds like if it's a speed bump for iMacs that we probably aren't getting USB 3 yet?

Also with the iLife update I'll probably be holding off until it's confirmed that purchasers will get a free or $5 software upgrade.
