Because my phone is also an alarm clock. I have it on the bed stand, which is too far from a plug for a charging stand

One more reason for you charge your iPhone during the night. What happens if the battery drains and the iPhone turns off during the night? How will you wake up in the morning?

Yes, that is not something that should happen a lot (except in 3.0, since it's a beta) but it is something that could happen even in 2.2.1, an app can get stuck and keep running draining your battery.

Last night the iPod app would not load. It would go to a blank white screen and crash back to SpringBoard. Even after a few hard resets it wouldn't work. After syncing it opens but its really sluggish.

i noticed that too, i tried to purchase Calabria 2008 (OTA) and as soon as it finished, i tried to launch the iPod app, and it crashed.
after looking in settings it said i had 0 songs and 0 videos.
it corrupted my music database once again.

Protip: don't buy things from the itunes store via iphone.

...in a beta version.

I was just about to post the exact same thing, went to bed, wake up 8 hours later and my iPhone is giving me a 5% battery low message

There's a 5% warning in 3.0? There was only 20 and 10% previously.

1. Turning the iPhone into landscape view under Safari, Safari will not turn to landscape view. Restarting the phone clears the problem up, but then it returns after a few minutes. Clearing out history and cache clears up problem only to return.

2. Podcasts start and then crash.

3. Hard to correct text because copy/paste feature constantly comes on. Need to be able to turn copy/paste feature off. Very annoying.

A lot of promise, though.

- iPod menus often unresponsive. Music often just doesn't play
- Landscape keyboards often don't work (keyboard doesn't change size. It's a little panel to the bottom-left of the screen)
- Tweetie doesn't work when posting images over 3G - unresponsive to send button. Do it over WiFi. (learned this the hard way. Flooded followers with 8 duptweets)
- Carrier/Battery bar doesn't align itself when viewing street view (appears down one side, intersects maps bar)

Yes, I know it's beta. Duh. I'm just having a good moan.

Everyone post your Boot Up times

It takes my 2G iPhone running 3.0 Beta almost a minute to turn on. 54 seconds.

It's also taken over a minute previously.

Hi i have the same problem i dont get the option to send picture messages, just wondering if you got it fixed.Thanks.

I installed the .ipcc file from the MMS thread on the front page, turned off MMS from the settings menu, turned it back on again then rebooted my phone and the option to insert a picture message to a text is now there

That's fast comapred to my old 2G iPhone, It used to take about 3-4 mins to do a reboot lol

Yep same here

Same here as well. Very strange. Didn't notice it until just now.

Fortunately Build 2 will probably be out tomorrow, if not next week. These bugs aren't a big deal for the obsessed user that had to have the beta, but they are quite restrictive for devs trying to focus all attention on 3.0SDK / 3.0B testing.

overall..

overall i would say the bugs arent that bad.
my biggest issue is how frequently my music database becomes corrupted...
hopefully this, the audio issues, and various UI issues will be fixed in the next beta release. I'm a bit doubtful that it will be released tomorrow. maybe next tuesday...
(god, i hope it's tomorrow )

The Alarm clock bug got me today >_>
I had an alarm set for 7:30. I woke up at 7:15, went back to sleep, woke up later to check the time, it was 8:48, the second I unlocked my phone, my alarm went off. Missed Physics, but I guess it happens =\

as many have said before, audio issues can be fixed by:
- restoring, then setup as new device
- disabling keyboard clicks
- disabling lock sounds

this might help you with your alarm issue.
my alarm has been working fine.

Just moments ago I discovered another terrible bug in the 3.0 beta that kinda pushed me close to the "switch back to 2.x" line. I had a text message on the screen in "messages" that i was reading and I went to tap the call button at the top to call the contact i was texting and this is what happened:

- I tapped the call button.
- The touch region seemed to be messed up and it took me back to another sms on the list and initiated a call to that contact which happened to be the facebook mobile number (useless for calling obviously).
- The screen went black except for the status bar and i waited 10 seconds.
- the call window (very graphically screwed up) popped up and started dialing the FB mobile number...
- I pushed End Call. The button pushed.. nothing happened. The screen then went blank again except for the status bar.
- my original sms window from the contact that i wanted to call in the FIRST PLACE came up.
- i then pushed call again at the top of the sms app and the screen went blank again just like i said previously. then it finally started the call.
- the same thing happened after i had my conversation and hung up.
- my phone then self reset its own springboard (took 30 seconds) and sent me back to my home page.

WOW.... what a crazy beta....

If you have the keyboard open in Safari and tilt the phone, it won't turn to landscape. For the landscape keyboard in Safari you need to tilt the phone with the keyboard close, let it go to landscape and hen open the keyboard. That's how it has always been in Safari, it's not a bug. Although it is stupid and I hope Apple changes it.

That bug happened to me in 2.2.1, it's not a specific 3.0 bug.

Just curious where you are getting tomorrow from.. A week from release? I never have really done Apple beta software before, so I am unsure of how they release these things.. Do fixes usually come out often?

Usually beta testers are seeded with frequent updates. Also, he said "Probably" so he doesn't really know... it's just a guess.

I have no idea when it will be out. Given the inherent puporse of the beta, like what I'm using it for, it's just time wasting at the moment. A few of the bugs are preventing legitimate memory management testing. So it's on the way. This week, more likely next.

I wanted to comment on a mistep by Apple involving the new uses of LANDSCAPE. This is not a bug, but rather an oversight that I don't really expect to be fixed:

workflow:
1. Browsing Safari, watching video, or similar landscape experience.
2. In comes an SMS. The pop up notification is landscape as well.
3. Touch reply
4. Pop up rotates back to portrait as it fades out.
5. Messages loads in portrait, then rotates to landscape.

I really feel this workflow and similar should be smoothed out to eliminate any portrait animation here. Just feels inconsistent. Hopefully they've noticed!

3.0 works fine for me also if anyone doesnt like it you can make a custom rom and downgrade MMS is the only that doesnt work for me it doesnt seem to do anything

Facebook bug fixed...

Latest facebook update now shows pictures...

Battery life is horrible! iPhone was fully charged, went to sleep for 9 hours, when I came back, it wouldn't turn on because the battery was so low.

Never happened to me before. My iPhone always used to have at least 1/3 left after I woke up.

That happened to me the first night I put 3.0 on my iPhone. I just restarted it and the next day, it had amazing battery life! Even better than what I got on 2.2.1!! (See below)

That happens because something gets stuck, like an app, and keeps draining the battery. That was happening to me and after I rebooted battery life was fine.

Here's a screenshot of my battery life with 3.0

Totally true, I discovered that the morning I woke up with a dead iPhone -with it being at about 60% when I went to bed- in the "Message" app, it was still trying to send a txt message. Eventhough that it had sent, it was still trying all through the night resulting in a dead phone.

Now, after the restart, I am getting battery life like this...
