is the maps application working for anyone. I did a complete restore and everything else is working but maps. I start it and all I see is a grey grid and the options are all frozen. Pressing the home button returns me straight away yo the home screen
Yes, I have that issue with maps. However I noticed if I let it sit for a couple of minutes it will start working, but it remains VERY laggy. Try zooming out. Mine gave me the grey grid at one point and I just found that it was zoomed too far in.

These problems went away for me when I did another restore and set up the phone as a new device.

same here.

So I am just curious if anyone else has the same error. I have found that when you download a podcast or a song from the iTunes phone app, the iPod app crashes soon after opening. This is very consistent for me and occurred after i first upgraded the firmware on my 3g iphone and restored from a good back up. It also remained after I set the phone up as a new device, after a fresh restore of course.

i noticed that too, i tried to purchase Calabria 2008 (OTA) and as soon as it finished, i tried to launch the iPod app, and it crashed.
after looking in settings it said i had 0 songs and 0 videos.
it corrupted my music database once again.

Protip: don't buy things from the itunes store via iphone.

Maps are working fine on mine...

Battery life is horrible! iPhone was fully charged, went to sleep for 9 hours, when I came back, it wouldn't turn on because the battery was so low.

Never happened to me before. My iPhone always used to have at least 1/3 left after I woke up.

I was just about to post the exact same thing, went to bed, wake up 8 hours later and my iPhone is giving me a 5% battery low message

That happens because something gets stuck, like an app, and keeps draining the battery. That was happening to me and after I rebooted battery life was fine.

Here's a screenshot of my battery life with 3.0

Why do people NOT have their phone charging while they sleep?? Makes no sense to me.

Ok I just rebooted now, will check later to see how the battery is doing

Well I fully charged it before I went to bed, didn't see the point in having it plugged in for another 8 hours when it was already fully charged, I have never needed to do this in the last 1 year 1/2 of owning an iPhone

lol I shouldn't have rebooted, it's been stuck on the Apple boot up screen now for like 5 minutes, gonna have to restore

Try doing a hard reset: press the on/off button and home button together until the apple logo appears.

Tried that and it didn't work, no worries anyway, I'm restoring it now and I made a backup last night so I won't lose anything

So you'd rather not charge it overnight because it has a full charge and wake up to a phone with 8 hours of standby on the battery?

You do realize having a fully charged phone plugged in doesn't hurt the battery, right?

Recommend that you shut your iPhone OFF to shut down all apps that are stuck running in the background and then turn it back on before you go to sleep. Or like the other poster said and what I do...charge it at night while you sleep...fresh battery in the AM to go out into the world on is great :D

There are a lot of things happening in the back ground right now that you can't shut down by pushing and holding the home button. That function does not currently work.

Memory leak is terrible...using FreeMemory you can actually watch your memory usage...it will be at 4mb, hit free memory, gives you 24mb and then in less then 5 secs it is back down to single digits. You can also watch the battery meter drain.

Yes but the other reason I don't charge it overnight is that I always have it charging via USB through my PC because I have no spare plug sockets and I don't really want to leave my PC on all night or mess about unplugging things before I go to bed, I might consider it now though but before today I have never had any problems with my battery

The magnifying glass has been replaced by Cut/Copy/Paste. My images load fine. Double tap still controls zoom. Pinch also still works as it did before.

Beta Software!!!

If you are running beta software, which obviously you are, what about all of this is a surprise? It is normal to have both lower battery life and memory leaks. Expect to have to charge more often than before and expect to have to reboot in order to clean up issues due to memory leaks, etc.

There is a bunch of new code in the OS, lots of unoptimized code, and probably lots of additional "test code" that is inserted for the beta test. You have 3 choices here: 1)dutifully check out the new OS and report problems back to Apple, 2)return to prior version of the OS, and 3)complain. Number 3 doesn't make any sense, so please revert to number #1 or #2.

Are we allowed to post graphical glitches? I see a ton of graphical glitches

1. Turning Mail.app sideways with the search enabled causes the buttons to not line up correctly.

2. In Maps and the App Store, the buttons for stuff like "Top Free" and "Top Paid" at the top of the App gets cut off too soon on the right side... it looks like it's missing a pixel.

3. Keyboard drop shadows are missing for letters that are close to the edge of the screen such as "P" and "Q".

4. The auto-correct text that appears as a suggested word sits too low inside the bubble. It was more centered in 2.2.1. Stuff like the bottoms of "y" and "g" get cut off.... it looks weird.

5. The search field in spotlight looks blurry because of the drop shadow on a black background. They should do something about this.

6. The new icons look terrible. (Messages, Voice Notes and Phone)

7. The keyboard is brand new. They changed the font for the keys and made the letters look inset or beveled into the keys. This isn't a bug, it's just an observation of the changes to the keyboard.

8. Pressing the bookmark buttons while in Safari landscape results in really odd graphical behavior.

9. The blinking text indicator disappears in Safari when trying to use the mobile version of Google.

10. Tapping icons on the springboard no longer dims the icon before launch unless you hold your finger on it for a split second. Quickly tapping it doesn't show the dim.

11. The keyboard key pop-up previews are wider now in landscape mode. They used to be skinny like the regular pop-up view, but now they're extra wide.

Those are all my GUI observations for now.

I have had similar graphical glitches. So far my sound issue has kinda stopped almost all the way. At times I find it just stopping and fixing itself about an hour later. All of this is to be expected though anyway so I can be upset. Afterall this is a Beta and this is why we have a Beta release.

yup! Wow, it's hard to type in Safari

Why do people NOT have their phone charging while they sleep?? Makes no sense to me.

Because my phone is also an alarm clock. I have it on the bed stand, which is too far from a plug for a charging stand (besides, Apple charges through the roof for docks and extra cables).

Regardless, battery life was good in 2.2.1, but in 3.0 it's dreadful. I'll try rebooting it beforehand.

I'll refrain from the sarcasm this time....

Why not get an extension cord? They're less than a buck at any hardware store. Then you could have a bedside lamp so you wouldn't have to get up to turn on/off your light.
