I personally can't see why anyone would be ok with a 3.5 inch display, oh yeah because that's all Apple has offered

I am perfectly ok with a 3.5 inch screen... and would be ok with something bigger too. I think there are a lot of people that are ok with the current size of the screen and would likely be ok if it was larger, within reason. As it stands, the screen is very usable.

One thing that most people here tend to forget is that the average user of the iPhone outside of the realm of tech blogs, and Apple forums has no idea what size the iPhone screen size is. Heck I really never paid attention to it either until all of the android phones started shipping with these huge displays. However my iPhone has fit my needs, and I never had much reason to give the screen size any thought. Just like the average Joe, and Jane that uses an iPhone probably doesn't care either.

It all begins with us and then trickles down to the non tech heads. We want it first then they eventually want the same, that's just how it goes. Trends begin with the ones in the "know" and then everyone else begins to notice. I was laughed at when I got my original iPhone back in 2007 by these same people rocking Razrs and now they have iPhones. I got comments like "damn thats so big!"

Perhaps, but the iPhone is still completely usable, even at 3.5". I'm not saying I don't want a larger display, but that's not #1 priority for me. Things like LTE, and better battery life are a higher order of priority for me.

All I can say is kiss the 3.5 inch display good bye.

Many of you have said that 3.5 was the ideal size and that you would never go any higher than that.

Are you going to stay true to your word and refuse to buy the 4 inch iPhone because it doesn't meet your requirements?

Come on that same crew will come around screaming how what ever new size is perfect and only idiots want to stay at 3.5.

my two cents, if apple is willing to fragment their app store to make way for a 4.0 inch iphone then it will happen. Other than that insight im comfortable with a 4 inch phone, ive tried a few rival phones :D

All rumors now seem to point to the new mainstream & conservative Apple choosing a 4.0". Therefore in today's market 4" is the new 3.5". Apple will still have the smallest display of all premium smartphones. No worry about innovation, or taking a risk, there's a lot of safety in a minor size increase.

It's a damn shame that this is what we've come to expect from Apple.

The day the iPhone sales start to tank and the size of the screen becomes the reason why, is the day Apple will make it bigger. Until then, it is what it is. The iPhone has remained at the top of the charts in terms of consumer satisfaction, and ratings, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Like it or not, the one handed use of the iphone is a valid point.

I can't think of much evidence that one-handed usage was tops in Apple's mind.

If it had been, they sure as heck wouldn't have put the <back navigation buttons at the far upper left. Or they could've put a physical back button like every other smartphone design on the planet, since Back is used as much if not more than the Home button is.

Not to mention that it's a multi-touch design, which is hardly one-hand friendly :)

The primary one-handed capitulation they made was to allow double-tap in addtion to pinch zoom.

Yes, I agree.

I've never expected Apple to be perfect, but I have enjoyed a long history of excellent computers that have met my professional & personal needs very well.

Little did I ever imagine with the advent of the iPod, that Apple would morph into an i-centric consumer electronics & entertainment company.

I concur. The "we know whats best for our users" doctrine is one day going to bite them in the arse if they aren't careful. RIM is a fine example of a once mighty company resting on their laurels and all of a sudden struggling to be relevant.

Dont see why that would be so hard. They have different size laptops and iMacs. Shouldnt be a problem at all. They just have to want to do it.

I always hate to see the excuses of why screen sizes would be so difficult for Apple and devs making the apps for them. Android phone makers and devs(who many make the same apps for both platforms) dont seem to have a problem with it. It just gets done.

I can agree with this, though making apps for Android is a tougher experience and can be more prone to bugs due to the vast amounts of varying hardware and software between the phone manufacturers. This goes for graphics processing, cpu, screen size (in terms of resolution), etc.

I'm willing to bet when the 4 inch iPhone is revealed and previewed by media outlets at the event, some people will be screaming about how terrible it is that they made it bigger. When they get it in their hands however, they'll fall in love with it.

As long as Jony Ive is still designing the iPhone NO ONE will complain about how terrible it is. Name another phone that carries the beauty, and the aesthetic of the current generation iPhone. Make no mistake, the next iPhone might not come with a terribly massive display, but it will look good.

You assume that the reason the iPhone's sales are still massive is because of the 3.5" display, not in spite of it.

after a few days on a 4 inch most people won't even truly realize the difference. Most people I said. Unless you constantly go back and forth from one to the other you get used to the screen size very fast.

I'm really fine either way, I care way more about the camera and other internal specs than I do the screen size, but that's me.

I'm not saying that at all, but what I am saying is that iPhone sales are healthy with the phone as is. So Apple has no reason to assume the 3.5" display is a real hindrance. I'm not saying a larger screen size is bad just don't make the phone really massive as a result.

Well Steve Jobs and J. Ive thought so when designing the original iphone. If you read Walter issac. book there is a chapter on the I phone. They had different sizes of screen prototypes, same as with the i pad. They picked the 3.5 inch size.
The back button being in the corner is a non issue. You can reach all aspects of the screen with your thumb due to the screen size. Apple is number 1 because they think of every aspect of the machine they build, even the design of the internals design that you cannot even see.

A back button on Ios would be nice. I like that aspect of Android on my one x. But it is needed more on Android in my opinion. Ios could use it but it is a not a deal breaker. The useability in Ios more than make up for it.

Even though the One X has a larger screen, browsing on it is not as smooth iOS. I suspect it is much better on stock ICS than the overlay of sense. As much as i like the larger screen of the One X, i constantly am going to my 4s more and more. iOS is simply, faster, smoother and more user friendly in my opinion. But ICS has closed the gap.

There is something to said for software and hardware integration. The CPU is half as fast but runs smoother, uses less resources.

As good as the One X is. The build quality is still not as good as the iphone. Gaps between the screen and body. Mushy power button, etc.

Screen size isn't the only factor when determining useability. I can still type faster pn my iphone keyboard than the One X despite the screen size. the layout was better thought out way back in 2007 than a phone designed in 2012. That should show you how Apple operates. Its not like they could not have made the screen bigger back in 2007.

I bought the One X due to the retina quality 4.7 display. was sick of the 3.5 display. But i realized that isn't the only aspect that make up a good quality device. Do i want a bigger iphone screen, yes. Who doesnt?

The evidence for the larger screen keeps coming. It will be so interesting to see the reactions when it is finally unveiled.

I have no interest in going bigger, but my wife is due for an upgrade so I will probably order her a white one. Not sure what we'll do with her iPhone 4. Keep it as a backup maybe.

Even though I prefer a smaller phone, iOS is still the best OS for me.

It'll be both incredibly disappointing and hilarious if after all this speculation about a bigger screen, the next iPhone is still 3.5 inches and all this talk was for nothing
