No just pointing out that those with the 5s and 5 will have to upgrade before Apple "has" to do anything in regards to releasing tiny phones again. They're still experiencing record breaking sales so it's not like the lack of a 4" device is hurting them.

Money makes Apple move and with the sales of these larger Iphones it's pretty clear that they're not being hurt by the few who think 4.7 is too large. You're grossly overestimating how many people are holding out for a new small iPhone. The sales of the 6 and 6s demonstrate that it's an insignificant number.

I'm not saying any size is better than the other. Just pointing out to you why a new small iPhone is highly unlikely.
Well, Im sure many of us upgraded to the 6/6s plus/s not because we wanted the larger phone but because they were the new iPhones..wonder how many of us would stay with the 4"
if the option were available?

I love the speed of the 6s. I love how fast Touch ID is. I really love 3D Touch. I even love the new Harry Potter photos.
I hate the size of this thing. Its actually making me hate this phone. I think about going back to my old 5s everyday. I buy new iPhones every two years, but if the 7 has a four inch version, I'd buy it day of launch.

I completely agree. I've bought an iPhone on launch day every two years since the first iPhone and this should have been a year for me to buy one. I've played with the 6 and the 6S and I just can't stand the size increase. I like everything else, but not enough to make me move up from the 5S. Unless there is a 4" version of the 7, it is going to have to be -extremely- special to get me to upgrade.

Count me in with this 30%... finally got a iphone after YEARS of Android..

i had the:

droid x
thunderbolt
droid bionic
galaxy nexus
galaxy note2
galaxy note3
galaxy note 4..

such a waste :(

no they're just too stupid to realize how small the difference between a 4" and 4.7" really is.

they act as if it's the end of the world, literally.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I can tell a large difference when using both. When the 6 first came out I needed a new phone so I switched to an Xperia Z1 Compact as apple wasn't making new small phones and it was only 4.3" and even the .3" difference was very noticeable and at times difficult to use with one hand, going to 4.7" completely gets rid of one handed use.

Android phones are good. Android is good. Thats about it. It'll be embedded in mediocrity until end of time. I just...can't use android when iPhone exists.

Only because as I have found out there are no damn high spec small Android handsets out there bar one! Namely the Xperia Z5 Compact with the dodgy Snap Dragon 810 in it!

It's ridiculous, I've bought an iPhone 6S because of this. If you want Android then you must go large or go home it seems. I hope Apple continues with the smaller iPhone?

How come they didn't state the percentage of iPhone users that switched to a new Android phone? How come Tim didn't mention when iOS 9 iPhone users will finally get their contacts fixed? I've never seen a company who toots their own horn more than Apple.

That's a very odd comment. Why would Apple discuss their negatives on an earnings call... or ever? Even struggling companies will talk up their positives. Apple is one of the few companies that doesn't have to "toot their own horn". Their revenues and earnings speak for themselves.

That is one of the strangest things I have ever heard. I don't care what the body of my phone looks like. I didn't care when I went to a plastic S4, and I didn't care when I came back to an easily scratched, metal iPhone 5. I suspect you are either just being overly dramatic, or have no need for a smartphone.

Or he's just trolling and never even owned an iPhone.

Sony makes a "compact" version of their phone and it's still 4.6"

And OnePlus' only phones are 5.5"

It appears that small phones are going the way of the dodo. And I'm fine with it!

And Sony is pretty much alone in that regard...

How do they measure that? Do they ask every customer? Is anyone aware of the method they use?

When people walk into an Aaple store with an Android and switch. When people go to their wireless carrier and switch. All that sales data is recorded.

Try to get an Android flagship in 4"...

Heck try to find a better phone than the 5S in 4"...

Hack... try to find a good Android phone in 4.7"!

Remember, People hate change more than anything. I bet over half the people complaining about the size of the 6/6S/Plus would shut up and change tune after a week with the new phones. A month in they will be wondering how they stayed on that tiny ass 4" screen for long. :p

Seriously, when it comes change, people will throw a huge hissy fit until they try the thing thats changing.

Yep. It doesn't seem like Android OEMs care about 4" phones anymore.

I've noticed a lot of iPhone users around here are still hoping Apple will make another 4" iPhone.

Have Android users simply given up hope for a smaller phone? We don't really hear from them like we do the iPhone users.

Yeap and it is a crying shame, I didn't get it as it seems to be having some issues and I'm still not sure I would trust that 810 chip. Hopefully next year they will put the 820 in it and it will be one awesome little high spec Android phone, but its stupid Sony are still the only ones making high end small screen Android phones.

I did, I switched from the Nexus 5 back to the iPhone, the 6S because it is a high spec 'small' phone. I tried a Note 5 and hated the size of it in my pocket, like a giant slab. And its smaller then the 6 Plus!

Android needs huge batteries, and OEM's just can't make a phone as compact (inside) as the iPhone, plus, doesn't appeal to Android users at all... they want "more" for less money.

What is it with people not accepting that people are different?

Some people (myself included) can't stand phone you can't use one handed. I don't know about you but my thumb does not grow after a week of using an iPhone 6.

After a few days of using an iPhone 6 I picked up my iPhone 5 and remembered how great the screen size is and how comfortable and useable the form factor is.

Bigger screen size does not equal better phone. It is an subjective thing not an objective thing. Not everyone wants more screen size. That is the reason why Apple offers 5 different laptop screen sizes. Or 3 different iPad sizes - Theres no point telling 11 inch Air users that the 15 inch screen is better - because its not for those users.

It is definitely subjective. I prefer plus sized phones, and others don't. We should respect others preferences. I don't think apple will make a smaller iPhone again though sadly.

Exactly - some people like big screens some like small screens. Some people's needs are best suited by a small car, some people's needs are suited best by a large truck.

In the end I don't care how they do it - put an A9 processor in a 5C, 5S or shrunken down 6 case, just anything. Charge me a premium for it, but I just don't care. Otherwise its bye bye iPhone for me.

We can add the 4" iPhone to the graveyard... along with the 17" Macbook Pro.

It's weird though.... you'll soon be able to choose an iPad in three different sizes.... but the iPhone will only come in two?

Notice, I didn't say everyone, if you read my post before going into 4" defense mode. Yes, of course there are people who genuinely prefer smaller phones and I respect that. However, I stand by my post. I still think a significant portion of the people complaining about the size of the 6/6S are only complaining because it's a change without actually trying out the phone.

So if all these folks are switching from Android yet the Android market share is stable where is android getting their new users from?

It's not stable, it's slowly spliping.
They did pick up blackberry and Windows phone losses, but now there isn't anything left here.

Android OEM also been losing the high end completely to Apple over the last 3 years.
Apple is now at 90% of profits. That's pretty bad for them.

Also, when a new phone launches, people that wanted to switch
during the previous year comprise a large block of early Iphone buyers,
while those that don't switch just buy during the year.
The percentage of switcher is thus much higher initially.

Over the whole years, the switchers are probably about 15%.

Android phone sales also tend to be higher than Apple's because their replacement cycles are shorter (which makes sense both because they're less expensive, less supported and less durable as a whole).

To a dumb phone and an iPod Touch or to an Xperia Compact. There is no point me buying a phone that will be useless for me. I would have never bought into an iPhone had I known Apple would so quickly backflip on its 4 inch screens are the perfect size thing to the extent that they get rid of that size (That it even created adverts about).
