I have an 80 GB Classic, and I still feel quite cramped in it. My favorite music alone is probably more than 32 GB, then add in audio podcasts, video podcasts, just a few tv episodes, and a few downloaded click wheel games... the result is that even in my 80 GB Classic I wind up having to deal with running out of space and having to clear things out before I can add in new podcasts or whatever.

So 32 GB iphone is definitely a great step in the right direction, but there's a lot of us out there who are waiting for at least an 80 GB version before we can jump on board. It'll happen soon enough, I can wait a couple of years.

My guess is the 16GB is being EOL'd because there are fewer of them in the channel. The new phone will be announced in June, but not available until July, the 8 GB phones will be sold at a discount, likely $99 during that month. In July, the new 16GB and 32GB will ship and the 8 GB may or may not be discontinued.

No offense intended, but why don't you just get the 32gb iPhone and keep the iPod you already have or upgrade that one? Do you really need to have all the music you already have on your iPod on your iPhone? Cant you just carry both?

As others have said - the voice / data plan costs is the bigger issue for many of us. My bandwidth needs are way less than what I have been paying for. It would be far cheaper for me to have gone with an iPod Touch and a separate phone - but did not want two devices to schlep around. Soon I will need to see a less expensive plan from AT&T or may well go with two devices.

I still feel like the only way to fix this is for Apple to drop the exclusivity plan. Get some competition between the phone companies and I bet we start seeing much better plans. The AT&T monopoly isn't good for anyone......except AT&T that is.

If turn by turn navigation comes, [more GB of storage space will] be needed to support the maps too.

Why would you need to store huge maps of the entire nation when you're connected to the internet? All you need to store locally is the map within say an hour's drive in any direction from your current location. If you start driving in any direction, at some point in the next 45 minutes you'll get a good enough connection to download more maps for your new location. In fact, it could be even more intelligent than that. Added to the map of roads they can have a map of AT&T signal strengths, so that way the software will know to store more upcoming map data in your iphone if you're headed in a direction with poor AT&T signal strength, and store less map data in your iPhone if you're in an area with stronger AT&T signal strength.

dropping the 16 and not the 8 would make no sense and not be at all in line with apple's past practices. I think it will be 16 and 32 or maybe 32 only but not 8 and 32.

Unless Apple retains the 8GB iPhone as their version of the iPhone nano or at least a secondary phone that can be sold for $99.00? Then the $299.00 32GB iPhone on storage alone makes the pricing look compatible? Maybe?? Just a thought. But I do agree 16GB EOL'd while keeping the 8GB model, huh?:confused:

I already have an iPod Classic and a separate cell phone, so why would I buy an iphone? The whole appeal of the iphone to me is that both functions are integrated into one device.

Sweet. Bump the iPhone up to 32gb, and then bump the Touch up to 64gb and I'll be all over it like Oprah on a ham sammich.

I see your point, I really do. But You have A LOT of stuff. Not to be pessimistic, but I dont think an iPhone can ever hold all your digital entertainment. It seems silly to me to wait a few years on the hopes of what you want.

32 GB sounds cool. For my music library, if I had to pick 32 GB of storage or a 1.5x faster processor, I would go with the storage in a heartbeat.

BTW, I love the irony of having a Palm Pre advertisement at the bottom of the page.

Firstly, I don't know what makes you think that storage space will suddenly stop growing like it has for the past 40 years. Storage sizes have always been growing at a rate that's WAY faster than I'm adding things to my library. So it's basically a sure thing that within the next couple of years there'll be an 80+ GB iPhone that'll store everything I want it to. Secondly, if the device doesn't do what I want, then there's no point in me buying it. If it doesn't do the primary thing I want it for (integrating music player and cell phone into a single device) then I'm not losing anything. That's like saying it's silly of me to not buy an electric car yet just because it doesn't have a range far enough to handle my daily commute. If the device doesn't do the primary thing I want it to do, then it would be downright stupid to buy it.

I have 25gb of Music, so I am dying for a 32 GB iPhone. Finally I could lay my 30GB iPod Video to rest.

Hopefully they have more than four per store at the launch unlike the Pre: Link. Anybody know where I can get a good sleeping bag? I'm going to camp out now for the new iPhone.

EDIT: Why the hell does MacRumors have Palm Pre ads everywhere!!??

Like others have said it's definitely just the iPhone 3G 16GB being out of stock for them. Soon the 8GB will be out of stock as well.

The new refresh will include a 16GB (black) and 32GB (black/white) just like last time at the $199 / $299 for the US. I really can't wait to get my hands on an 32GB iPhone 3G Pro or whatever it will be called. I have already left my 80GB iPod for the 16GB iPhone 3G, but with a 32GB iPhone I will be able to hold like 80% of my music.

Yes! I'm so excited to upgrade my G1 iPhone! Can't wait to see what the new features and hardware will be...

Currently, the touch will have twice the memory as the iPhone. This is due to two memory slots being in the touch and only one in the iPhone.

So we will see a 16GB and 32GB model iPhone and a 32GB and 64GB touch during the next iteration.

Having said that, this assumes that the iPhone continues to have only one memory slot. Apple might change this in the future ... but I doubt it due to space issues. The space where the second memory slot would be in the iPhone is used for the phone part.

I am glad I use PithHelmet to block those ads...but to have Palm Pre advertisements everywhere on a MAC rumors site?

Please, MacRumors, this is as inconsistent as having Windows 7 banners all over your site...not to mention that the Palm Pre is a great piece of vaporware crap anyway...please take them down and replace them with Mac-friendly ads.

I think this is almost a cert now for sure. Given the leaked specs and hints of video recording in the iphone os 3.0 I think the larger capacity the iphone comes with the better for folks. Seems to be on the logical path of improvements, faster processor, more space, better camera, etc with a slight increase in prices if Apple's track record is anything to go by in the UK. Think I’d almost certainly go for the 32 gb one. The 8gb is fine for music alone but once you start adding video podcasts and movies the space does become a limiting factor, not to mention all the new applications currently and yet to come... I saw a post previously I believe it was for myst where the game itself required a few gb's of space to install. I think this is one rumor that is very well based in reality and I’d actually bet on happening.

Get over it. Jeez. I'm sure Macrumors doesn't have direct control over the ads that appear.

You two are crazy. This isn't a non-profit mac evangelical site, this is a for-profit site dedicated to the topic of Apple stuff. It's not like these are competing religions or something. If MR can make more money by showing ads of products that compete with Apple products, then those are the ads the site should run. And why would you be against other products strongly competing against Apple's products? Competition is what drives all the companies, including Apple, to do what's best for US, the consumers. And why are you scared of these ads anyway? Are you saying that you want to not be informed of other choices and you just want to blindly buy Apple products even if they aren't the best products? If Apple's products really are superior then you should welcome ads to other manufacturer's products because it'll only reaffirm to you how correct you are in choosing Apple products.

(okay, enough procrastinating for me, I've gotta get back to work.)

You might want to check out how advertising is done these days on web sites.

MR doesn't control the content directly.

Thumb up for the new characteristics, i.e. video capability, better OS etc. Thumb down for the 32 Gb disk. I have the 16 Gb G3, after 9 months of use, 12.67 Gb free. I would not spend a cent for a larger disk (I would actually buy the 8 Gb but it was not available in that moment...)
