Thumb up for the new characteristics, i.e. video capability, better OS etc. Thumb down for the 32 Gb disk. I have the 16 Gb G3, after 9 months of use, 12.67 Gb free. I would not spend a cent for a larger disk (I would actually buy the 8 Gb but it was not available in that moment...)

Well you'll be in luck since there will be a 16GB version of the next gen iPhone. They are discontinuing the 16GB 3G version! These seems to be a difficult concept for people to understand.

New iphone hardware

I've quickly read over these posts and see that most of the talk is focused on the memory size in the new iphone ----

What I'm more interested in is the physical changes rumored in the iphone case design. Rumor reads that the "new" iphone will be similar in size to this current model with "slight changes"

Anyone still think the back will continue to be plastic ---- orrrrrr will we get a new "metal back" phone more in line with version # 1

Also speculation that battery will last 1.5 times longer than current model interests me ------ New battery technology ????? --Larger battery ?????

Chime in everyone

Ive mentioned in another post i think, wondering if anyone knew if it was possible for them to adapt the 17" MBP battery tech to the iPhone. Seems this would be good for both battery life and Apples desire to make everything as thin as possible. Personally im happy with the dimensions of the 3G

So keep the 8Gig 3G, and add a 16gig and 32gig summer-'09-iPhone?

I still feel like the only way to fix this is for Apple to drop the exclusivity plan. Get some competition between the phone companies and I bet we start seeing much better plans. The AT&T monopoly isn't good for anyone......except AT&T that is.

Verizon, Sprint, T-Moble, etc all carry most of the same smart phones today....and they all charge roughly the same price for data access. So, when/if they get the iPhone, I think everone will still charge approximately the same price.

The 16 GB iPhone is indeed EOL'ed (the 8GB was earlier EOL'ed - last while stocked) but will soon be replaced with a new model – Apple usually wants resellers to sell stocked items first... before new products hit the shops.

T-Mobile in The Netherlands will offer the new iPhone for 179,95 euro with a 2 year web & walk contract (150 minutes).

UHHHH.... hurry up i need my own summer christmas of new toys.

New iphone.... check

new macbook pro.. check :D

Not 100% sure as the 3G was my first iPhone, but I would think they would, after all, they are signing you up for another 18 month long contract

I really hope so too, but the difference this time round is that the price for the 3G was subsidized by O2, over an 18 month contract, wheras buyers of the original iPhone paid full price. So O2 might want to get the full 18 months out of us 3G owners to recover their subsidy, buts let's hope they take the view that signing us up for another 18 months is better. Except it'll probably just be another 12 months until the 4th generation model comes out...

I really want my iPhone to be my one and only iPod, but with 80 GB of music and 80 GB of video, I can't see that happening anytime soon. I wish we can at least get 64 GB by next year at this time, but Apple has been very slow at increasing flash capacity, which they had been very good at with harddrive capacity through the 160 GB Classic era. They have definitely taken a step WAY WAY back in terms of capacity updates in the past few years, and really, that's what a multimedia device really NEEDS. I hope they get this through there heads in the next year or so.

One possible scenario could be:

End of life current 16GB model to be replaced with the new model.

Release new models with:
* 32GB and 16GB to replace the current 16GB.
* $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained.
* 3.2 Megapixel camera.
* Video recording & editing capabilities.
* Ability to send a picture & video via MMS.
* Double the RAM and processing power.
* Built-in compass.
* Whatever else ends up in the new phone.

Keep current 8GB model as is as an "entry Level" phone @ $ 99.00 and a reduced monthly service plan that caps data and provides for fewer minutes. There's a segment of the total market that would love this as long as the price was lower then todays pricing.

The price on the components for the 8GB phones have come way down as they are not the latest / greatest anymore. I'm guessing that makes it possible to drop the price on these 8GB phones and still make a profit. There's no downside to trying this as the 8GB already exists - just keep making it as is. By running OS 3, you'll already be adding other functions like copy / paste etc. You could also remove some functionality from 3.0 when installed on the 8gb model.

If it does not sell after the new model comes out, then end of life it. No harm done.

can't wait to hear whats in store. I don't need more space but a better battery would be great and I would use a video feature for some short clips

I can see them keeping the old 8 so that's the sought-after $99 iPhone...

New 16 and 32 Gig models for $199/$299

Sounds good! Been waiting for a 32 to replace my 4 gb. Can't wait for June, I can see the 8 sticking around 'as is', there is a market for it and it is great for a lot of people.

Flash memory is expensive a newer tech than the traditional hdds that were in the classic. Don't blame the car for a bumpy road.

No reason there can't be a more expensive and / or a slightly thicker iPhone with two memory slots. We could have a 64 GB iPhone in June with two memory slots and slightly thinker for $399. I wish I had that option, but Apple is way too stuborn to ever increase the thickness of a device, even if just slightly. In any case, we really need more capacity in this device, even if it means putting a harddrive in there with less battery life. I'd love to have some OPTIONS.

Have you guys considered that they aren't just completely removing the 16GB phone but it is being refreshed?

It's completely possible that by the end of the summer we either have

8GB - old
16GB, 32GB - new hardware

or

8GB - old
16GB - new hardware

I know logically that's what I thought too. Some people take things at face value on here and that's how the weird speculation begins.

What if they are dropping both 8gb and 16gb? Now it will be 32gb and 64gb at the previous price points.

Who knows, Apple has surprised us in the past.

That's what I was wondering. I would expect them to EOL the 8gb, drop the 16gb to $199, and add the 32gb in at that $299 price point, unless they're refreshing the models altogether. Or, we just may not have seen the EOL of the 8gb yet.

It is FAKE! Because t-mobile.at is only in GERMAN. BUT you can sen in pink line english word "NEW" and next the "picture" you can see words in German.

I THINK it is a FAKE!
