3d movies sucked the first time (60s), they sucked the second time (2000s). They will suck with the Vision Pro.

Seriously, though, I never watch movies alone....this sounds depressingly solitary.
To do 3D movies properly, you need reprojection.

Just having a stereoscopic film doesn't do the trick because users will also move their head a little and it's very disorienting when stereoscopic images do not adjust to this head movement.

I think it is now possible to reproject stereoscopic films using a combination of virtualized geometry with texture projection and AI image generation. This will finally make it not suck. Not sure how movie studios and actors feel about generating this but consumer TVs have interpolated the headache-inducing 24hz framerate the the movie industry is stubbornly attached to to higher frame rates for over a decade now and we just need to accept that consumer devices will post-process content.

For 3D reproduction, I think real-time on consumer devices (especially wearables) isn't entirely feasible yet, but if the content is streamed with a depth buffer, motion vectors and layers for certain transparent effects and such that are pre-generated on the server side, I think it might actually be possible to make it not suck this time.

Yeah content is king, but not a year old crap that was rated with 5.6 of 10.

This is content "low hanging fruit": already in the can, in relative abundance, no new work to "create" it from scratch... just bonus content for Vpro. It seems like about a 10 films get the 3D treatment each year for IMAX and Digital screens and have for the last 20 or so years. 20 times 10 = up to about 200 "in the can" opportunities for some entertainment content ready for Vpro on day 1. Maybe that's actually only 100 or perhaps that's 300 but who cares? It's just a bunch of bonus entertainment content ready to watch.

Whether one likes any one movie or not, it's nice to have lots of content for any new product launches. So bring these on and if someone doesn't value them, that's fine: someone else might.

Entertainment will be an easy win for Apple on the Vision Pro. I have a Quest 3...but watching any content on there is an exercise in frustration. Default apps like Netflix and YouTube were built for the Oculus Go years ago, then abandoned. Seriously - they stream at 480P. You can get around this with other apps, or by plex streaming or desktop streaming...but this is a mobile device. You should just tap an icon and watch something and not have to fiddle around with other devices just to watch a youtube video in a decent resolution.

Why wouldn’t you plug it in or swap batteries to watch a 2 hour movie?
So STOP a movie to swap batteries, so you can watch a movie ALONE all because it’s in 3D? At least with a 3D TV you can watch it with OTHERS, and you know, go to the bathroom, get food and drinks and interact with others…but hey, $3500 to watch 3D movies to constantly be plugged into a wall is GREAT! Funny how the rest of technology is going WIRELESS! Imagine if the only way to watch television was that your remote was plugged into the wall or had to have the batteries changed every couple of hours, would your argument be the same?

3D is not going to be a thing.

It was a flash in the pan fad in the 1950s.

It was a flash in the pan fad in the 1980s with IMAX.

It was a flash in the pan fad in the mid 2000s with Avatar and consumer 3D displays.

It will be a flash in the pan in the mid 2020s with the Apple Vision Pro.

3D is dumb.
Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?

(But maybe this time it really will be different? Maybe? I guess it remains to be seen...)

Having used the Quest 3 to stream my ripped 3d Content. I can say its the real deal and awesome right now. The only caveat is the colors and dark shadows that need to be elevated a bit. I hope Apple's vision pro will be able to be crystal clear with better rending of shadows and blacks. Quest 3 is just the appetizer.
Can Quest 3 do frame packing 1080p 3D or just 1/2 rez Side-by-Side or Top/Bottom?

Your straw man argument would hold water if the only feature of Vision was watching movies.

What a fantastic Friday night for the family... I can imagine it now... All 4 of us sitting on the couch with $14k worth of electronic ski goggles strapped to our face to take in the latest flick... feeling around for the popcorn bowl and wondering which dog is scratching at the door to be let out. Ah... innovation.

The world is visible while you have the Vision Pro on, they clearly showed that. But don't let facts get in the way of your narrative.

I still love seeing IMAX 3D movies (in fact it's one of the few motivations I have left for visiting the theater... or seeing subpar Marvel movies) ... and I love my aging 3Ds... Video games especially translate well to 3D.. yes I want it to come back pls 😔🙏🏻
