That "scoop" of announcement 9th, release 10 days later. Haven't we gone over this already? The guys overheard someone else's conversation, then called them a "solid, honest source".

t0mat0, did you read this though from Justinerator
Not surprising at all, but the memo from AT&T is now apparently June 1st -July 15th. My idea is that this might mean it will be sold on the 9th or 10th, instead of a week or so later. Just letting you guys know!
My best friend is the store manager in a local AT&T store, and I work there part time. I didn't get the memo, but all the full-time workers did, such as my friend. Can't wait!

Justin has been around a while on the forums and I don't think he would be mischievous enough to mislead us. Right Justin?!

I don't believe www.infosyncworld.com much. AT&T memo, yes.
If there has been a change, let's hear that leaked proof. I didn't mean to discount Justinerator :) (Sorry about this - I only briefly scanned the thread before posting just now).

So was the original memo true, then the dates changed in another memo? Could all AT&T staff confirm this? Why isn't this on the threads already? If it is true, Justinerator should be using the front page contact us button to get that scoop in to Arn!

It'd be much nicer to get on the day for U.S. / UK etc, rather than a week wait. what's happened to the slated OS 2.0 date? FCC?

Surely there would be something in writing? Or at least a few more AT&T store managers or employees able to confirm this?

Firstly want to say a big thank you to t0mat0, fantastic thread, been reading it everyday, some really interesting stuff, I've even visited every link you posted.

Anymore info on this date change with att holidays?

Keep up the good work, and again thank you t0mat0.

Originally, way back the whole argument about timings (at the time there was a possibility of an announcement prior to WWDC) - the whole FCC needs to give it some time, so there will be a gap between announcement and FCC launch, and actual release of product in shops. It seems the balace had swayed to announcement on 9th, launch in US in Apple stores at least on 9th. The AT&T memo had dates for AT&T stores after that - 10 days or so - they could be doing training day after the 9th, then have launch of it at AT&T stores after that.

So you watched all the Hugh & Laurie? And didn't comment? ;) Cheers for the support and saying hi - feel free to join in - i'm just speculating like the rest of ya!

- We're awaiting confirmation of date changes to shift it sooner from Justinerator/other AT&T personnel.

Perhaps I'm old and tired, but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied.

I have a question. When the WWDC happens does that mean AOL, Nike and all of the companies making iPhone Apps will be there showing their completed apps? And does this mean that we will be able to watch videos of these apps in action?

I don't know if you've seen this or not t0mat0, from appleinsider.com

Vancouver Apple store to open, mentions iPhone

Apple on Wednesday confirmed the opening of Apple Store Pacific Centre, its first Canadian store to open west of Ontario.

The store will open its doors at the Pacific Centre Mall on May 24th at 10AM with Apple's customary prize giveaways.

In an unusual move, however, both the company's announcement and the official store site make references to letting customers sample and learn about the iPhone, despite no firm date having been announced for the iPhone's release in Canada. None of the four other stores in Canada make this reference.

Rogers Wireless, the official iPhone provider for the country, has remained mum on release details so far and says only that it will launch the handset later this year, though rumors have it as part of a simultaneous worldwide iPhone launch in June.

Ive submitted this to MR
(You'll also see the bit about hiring for a camera engineer)

Thoughts?

Rogers has announced the iPhone already. The most logical explanation will be that the will show the current (unorderable) iPhone. I wouldn't think that Apple would be showing their cards this early at a store opening. They will generate enough traffic with the existing iPhone for you Canadians :p

I'm going to forget this if i don't write this down. So consider this a placeholder. I'll either add here, or at the end

Apps

Come WWDC, my personal fallible opinion, is that booom! if you're an iPhone owner with a working piece of plastic loaded with some mulah, you're going to be App King/Queen. Every company showing an app at the SDK presentation will have an app come App Store launch.

Anyone else rumoured will asap, if not at the launch. This isn't even touching those (large) companies who were given early invites/(possibly more in depth SDKs) who've been under the radar, getting apps together.
Nike has been rumoured, but just look at the grocery coupon rumours etc.

I'd imagine, that there will be a description to the apps on the App Store, and that video will be out on youtube via users (what with spanking video functions on the next iPhone and uber upload sk1llz ;)). And any site making a web app/App will probably put a hot link to the download section for that app on the App Store.

Does 300,000 = (Number of stores of AT&T, Orange, O2 x 6) ? It'd give a clue as to if they are demo, and then also link to

Vancouver Apple store May 24th (the sample and learn about the iPhone doesn't say 3G I imagine ;))

PATENTS!! Over xxxxx !

i think i mentioned this article but didn't write anything about it.

- Apple patent application describes live broadcast TV, iChat for Apple TV/Front Row
http://www.macnn.com/articles/08/02/07/new.apple.tv.patent/

"expanded Apple TV/Front Row functionality, including live iChat and broadcast TV programming as part of potential future Front Row features. The filing illustrates a process for associating widgets with content displayed by a multimedia center application, with one example revealing a yet unreleased version of Front Row and/or an Apple TV remote that includes a new set of Widget Keys,"

"Apple filed for another 46 patents alongside its new Apple TV/Front Row application. The highlighted patent describes the display of real-time information, live iChat session widgets, text messaging widgets, and more. The addition of such features would expand Apple TV's functionality to allow full communication right in the living room without the need to sit down at a computer," MacNN reports.

(Can anyone tell me when Time machine was announced - http://www.macnn.com/blogs/?p=491 has a patent for it, but i want to know which came first :))

- Sharing Graphical User Interface Output In Chat Environment
- Sharing Application Output In Chat Environment.
Both these pertain to Video

- A patent that details separating the audio data of each participant in an iChat conference into its own track, allowing other software to handle iChat conference data in the same fashion as other audio applications that play multiple tracks. The invention specifically describes linking photos of audio conference participants to their corresponding voices, ensuring that iChat users on Macs, iPhones, and other devices would see a photo of the person speaking at any given time.
The patent broadly covers both audio and video aspects of conferences, and is worded to include all manner of conferencing equipment -- including PDA devices and cellular phones.

APple did show off AOL's IM client, but wouldn't we all want native? Because native = possibly able to be a run in the background app. Remember that the AOL app was knocked up in 2 weeks. Perhaps it was more to show potential, rather than say Apple was going to have this native. i'd imagine they'll let AOL have a app on the store, but Apple will come out with its own.

No problem at all. I would have thought people would have already posted this or sent this to arn. I personally don't have the memo, as I said before, but my friend does and I can ask him if he can e-mail it to me. Don't be disappointed if he doesn't though, because he's a super paranoid person.

I'll update you guys in a bit. ;)

I imagine it would look something like the original memo:
iphoneattmemo.jpg

EDIT: I just talked to him and he said that he's afraid he would get fired if someone traced it back to him. I told him that he shouldn't worry about it, and that he's being paranoid. He then told me to get it from someone else if I want it that bad. I am not extremely friendly with anyone else at that store except him, so I think we'd have a better chance getting it from someone on the forums. I'm sorry guys, but my friend can really be a tough person to work with... :(

So you heard it from me, which I know is not solid proof, but I would like to think I'm a relatively trustworthy person.

So c'mon working AT&T guys and girls, let's get the proof everyone so rightly wants and deserves!!! :D

I believe you Justinerator.

If I were in that position of knowing something about this, I am not sure I would be spilling the beans or providing proof either. I would hate for that to jeopardize my job.

It's cool man. I appreciate the heads up. This will surely come out soon enough and you can tell us all "See!" :D

Thanks wildcardd. I appreciate that. And yes, it will only be a matter of time before the news comes out to the public "officially". And when that time comes, I'll be able to tell you guys, "See!? I was right all along!"

Looking at the link below some 3rd party apps are already being promoted! The link below states availability for this particular app as June 2008. However, reading the last line the prices are not going to be cheap! Anyone know the difference between the ERS and the RSA versions?

I think the iPhone image on the actual site however is the old iphone with a screen dump.

Nice! Normally i'm not too much of a fan of peripheral links (I don't like possible links that are there just to get people to look at a site they might have affiliation with, or the site is just hooey to start with). However, I like them!

SpeakerCraft's new iPhone/iPod Touch Interface extends multiroom control to new devices (21/5/2008)
Stand C5, CEDIA Europe Expo 2008

Intuitive GUI turns the iPhone into a mobile multi-room control screen.

SpeakerCraft, America’s original manufacturer of in-wall speakers is pleased to announce the release of a new interface for its award winning MODE multi-room A/V control system. It allows the Apple iPhone or iPod Touch to be used as a wireless system remote, controlling all sources and routing via the touch screen through an intuitive GUI.

The interface is generated through an embedded web server residing on a chip inside SpeakerCraft’s ERS 1.0 Ethernet to serial adapter. It is accessed through the iPhone’s Safari browser. This means that no time is wasted downloading or installing an application on the iPhone itself. The ERS also contains a GUI designed to display and operate on a standard PC or Mac, providing the option of complete system control from the iPhone/iTouch or any PC on the network. Operation with SpeakerCraft’s MZC/MODE multi-room system also requires the RSA 1.0 RS232 adapter.

Featuring large virtual buttons the interface is intuitively easy to view and operate: iPhone users will find its look and functionality familiar.

“This is another powerful addition for SpeakerCraft dealers,” says Jeremy Burkhardt, SpeakerCraft’s president. “They will now be able to offer their customers the easiest systems to use in the industry. Our current relationship with Apple which allows us to control and display metadata from the iPod has already dramatically enhanced our control offering. This latest development, utilizing the Safari browser on the iPhone or iPod Touch to control the system, will expand SpeakerCraft’s control offering even further. I hate to say it, but this is the beginning of the end for keypads. Soon any keypad that isn’t emulated on a device like the iPhone will be obsolete.

SpeakerCraft iPhone®/iPod Touch® Compatible Multi-room Control Interface Availability: June 2008 Approx retail prices: ERS 1.0 £850ea; RSA 1.0: £200.00ea www.speakercraft.com

Nice to see this being marketed as a product already. One iPhone to control everything.........

4G - LTE vs WiMax

http://www.rassoc.com/gregr/weblog/2008/05/21/8-months-with-the-iphone/

So the other day, I was out to lunch with someone, and he asked how I liked it. And while I was answering, I had two interesting realizations:

1. It’s still fun. I mean, all the little animations and eye candy. The little things. Could I live without them? Sure. But having them there somehow makes the whole experience continue to work.

2. It’s the first “smart” phone I’ve ever had that didn’t annoy me. I mean, really. Smartphones I’ve had in the past (from Audiovox, Motorola, Palm, and others) all eventually sucked at the little things. You know, like making phone calls. Sometimes I’d find that the phones were too busy doing something (gosh knows what exactly) to even let me make a call. Or too busy to ring when a call was coming in. Sometimes they’d lock up. Sometimes they’d get into a weird mode where anything I did would take 10+ seconds. Sometimes they’d make me want to throw them against a wall.

But oddly, the iPhone has done none of these things. It’s not perfect by any means - it’s got a few little bugs…but at risk of sounding like a fanboy, I have to say it works better as a phone than any phone I’ve had in the last 3 years.

And that is something I never thought I’d say.

Not to cross streams but
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2008/05/21/heres-how-apple-wins-the-enterprise.aspx
Motley Fool on Enterprise and Apple:
1. Corporate customers don't prize innovation.
2. Corporate customers only embrace new technology when they must.
Possibly, but then I think Tim Beyers needs to read up on Google ;)

I'd imagine corporate customers only want to embrace working useful tech, whether it's new or not. Google apps are new, but companys are embracing it. Vista is relatively new and, erm, well, they're embracing XP aren't they?

Here's why that matters. IT managers, above all else, are charged with maintaining corporate systems. Improvement isn't really the point; it never has been. What matters is creating a controlled environment where rogue software and devices don't compromise security.

And I think Apple showed that in it's presentations. They said: This is what Enterprise wants, we know, we're heading to get x,y,z done to get all of these things in, bish bash bosh, job's a good 'un. (Not exactly like that...)
They even took the peas of RIM for good measure, showing how Microsoft Exchange could be simply doled out via a server.

A very interesting point:
Consider Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) BlackBerry. From 1999 to 2004, it was mostly a cool gadget that users brought to work. IT managers dealt with the intrusion, and since that time, RIM's subscriber base has grown from 2 million to more than 14 million.

Long live the iPhone insurgency

...you can't help but think that it's easier to teach the iPhone to do enterprise tricks than it is to give the BlackBerry a truly stylish makeover.

"The PC is an important part of the entertainment-based network, and most networks will contain one, but the PC is not a crucial part of the future home network"

RIM &http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commoditization
In the business world, commodification is a process that transforms the market for a unique, branded product into a market based on undifferentiated price competition. While in economic terms, commodification is closely related to and often follows from the stage when a market changes from one of monopolistic competition to one of perfect competition, a product essentially becomes a commodity when the repeated changes- because of competition-outplay themselves. It is essentially called a performance oversupply- which means that the market is performance saturated and any differentiation, even when being offered, is more than what the market demands. "When consumers perceive that all products are the same, their only real factor for selecting one supplier over another becomes price"[1]. Commodification can be the desired outcome of an entity in the market, or it can be an unintentional outcome that no party actively sought to achieve.

Consumers usually benefit from commodification, since perfect competition usually leads to lower prices. Branded producers often suffer under commodification, since the value of the brand (and ability to command price premiums) can be weakened..

PS - Anyone interested in flash mobbing the London flagship store? Would be fun to get Macrumors et al running on the bigger screens, and might be a nice meeting place if they are going to be wheeled out come 7:30pm UK time ;)

Geotagging = GPS?

So the prediction of adding new features as new SDK builds come out is right, n'est pas? So whilst we can't jump on the GPS! bandwagon just yet (they could afterall use the Cell network/wifi hotspot information for location), it's a step closer.
Would improve the odds of integration of location into iLife's iPhoto. And more...

Interestingly, this is seen as part of a broader Location Services . Presumably you've got the 3G toggle,
Maps is aware, as is camera. Kinda makes you think if other apps will have this awareness to (you'd imagine they'll have to work out in preferences of each and every app, or have general app rules (+ exceptions?) regarding if the apps can use location information. Perhaps.

It would be useful to know the rate at which new builds are coming through the enterprise area. Is enterprise just getting this information/feature ? Were they forewarned it was coming, but not yet implemented in the SDK they were using?

Any which way, geolocation is cool in my book.

This is hilarious. People are lining up outside of NYC Apple store. Looks like no one knows why yet, unless it is a stunt.

Dude...this is crazy.....on the day that the Iphone officially becomes available

can someone please post in big letters

go buy new iPhone now!!!!

i cant take the anxiety anymore....

i iwll drop what I am doing and leave work.....stot eating, sleepiing...what ever i am doing

what the hell is going on here... I feel like I need to get in line some where now...

2nd that....I just called apple, and they played dumb (I guess they have to)

all they could tell me is that they did not know, and when it becomes available, they will email me, or I can check apple.com and it should appear as the first pop up, vs. where the new imac is now being seen.

I have to be honest, and I don't mean this in a rude way, but if this was another city, I don't know if I would be as inclined to believe it as much (still skeptical) What I am getting at, if it were to go live on the 29th of this month I think NYC (the major worldwide metropolitan city that it is) would be one of the first cities to have it. (basing this on the mass amounts of revenue and popularity that could spread and create a frenzy)

iPhone Frrenzy = Demand = $$$$$$

…or I could be wrong... :confused::confused::confused::(:confused::confused:
