I still don't understand what a 3G iphone would be. It seems a little early to have a 3rd generation iphone.

3G is referencing the technology/chip the iPhone uses to connect to the internet when WiFi is not available. It is a several years old and several times faster technology than the EDGE technology/chip that the current iPhone uses.

The most significant, and legitimate complaint about the current iPhone is its poor speed away from WiFi because of the choice to use EDGE instead of 3G. Not only is this out of date significantly in the US but makes the iPhone horrifically out of date overseas and, in some countries, literally unusable.

Who cares what the back looks like? Almost everyone I know keeps it in a case or sleeve of some sort. Way to easy for the naked iPhone to jump out of your hands, it's too slippery. I saw a poor guy drop his onto the concrete at work, cracked the whole front glass. I wanted to cry for him.

i call this the work of colorware (or similar company/person). They do a great job, and there is no reason why they couldn't paint the entire back as a solid color if that is what they wanted to do.

I assumed that is what they did anyway.

I haven't had my iPhone in anything since it came out. Everything is in perfect condition without scratches. It sits in my pocket and gets thrown around every day.

Well spotted.

This is not a photoshopped Colorware device.
The shape is completely different. It is rounder. So round that the camera is not perpendicular.

Look closely and you can see that it is thicker in the centre - thinner at the edges, like the MacBook Air.

It also looks like it has a recessed headphone jack at the bottom. (Either that or a reflection of a floating black monolith.)

My guess this is not a 3G iPhone. I think it's a $199 iPhone.

I think it's a colorware iphone that's been photoshopped to remove the line between the halves and to change the position of the text. Although if it is real I for one welcome our new iPhone design.

I think this is a very reasonable explanation and accounts for the better than normal quality of the 'fake'

I really do hope it is fake because this tacky design puts a damper on my plans to buy v2 whenever it comes out. The matte version in the pic someone else posted looks much much better but that looks even less believable than the original pic.

Oh well. Good discussion. But this could have been put on page 2. At least until more clues appeared to support this.

I doubt that the 3G iPhone will be 8g, if they are pretty much giving them away in germany, but the 16g remains the same price... I would be willing to bet that the 3G iPhone will into at 16g and if the 32g dose not come out at launch, it will only be a few months after until it dose.

Yes, that is what I was saying.

I can't see them removing the text that is already there:

Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China Model No: #####
FCC ID: ######## Serial No.: ########### IMEI No.: ###############

What would they remove? The only thing that wouldn't be on this one if it is a prototype or a testing model may be the FCC ID #, since it most likely hasn't been approved by the FCC yet, so it wouldn't have that number on it.

Maybe that's all that is missing?

Or maybe whoever made or photoshopped this didn't want to put their IMEI or serial number on it, but still wanted to make sure it was centered.

On the UK iPhone, there is no FCC ID, the second line is a serial no and an IMEI no, so the second line is shorter than the first line on UK iPhones.

Future Lineup...

the iPhone is going to get a 3G version. Along with a CPU upgrade (current ARM CPU is no longer being produced).

Based on what the suppliers are showing and producing in large enough numbers this could very likely be the new model. The back has a buldge, but the sides are thinner. What worries me about it being a photochop though is the camera is angled slightly (at least from the pic). The battery capacity is supposed to be double, the screen is up .4" in size, and the CPU is pumped up however which one, dunno yet but Intel's making 3 that would fit the bill. Doesn't matter though any one of them would give it 30-80% more processing power.

The glass has been reworked as well, for what I don't know. Again this is merely based on Suppliers and their 1st qtr results, 2nd quarter projections as well as what they currently producing VS. what they were.

I took my iPhone case and put a bulge in the back of it using a folded up piece of paper. Everything fit and didn't make it any worse (silicone case, leather case and neoprene case) so no need to rework cases at this point and if the sides are slimmer it should definitely fit well.

We all know it's coming. And we all know it's going to need a bigger battery to support 3G (that was the #1 reason it never shipped with it-at least that's what they tell us).

Gloss Black powder coated or ANODIZED aluminum won't scratch as easily as you think.

Is it the real deal? Only time will tell but whoever did it thought of almost everything... Camera could be the tell in the photo though.

Still just a good render.. No camera in the reflection..

You can see all other things in the background.
