It is going to obviously depend on the service area. Stop hating on Verizon. People who weren't able to switch over to AT&T or didn't want to now have an option. I know I have been waiting for this since I heard rumors floating around that Alltel might be bought by Verizon. Even at that time iPhone rumors on Verizon were relevant. Also here is a one speed test video. I know it is only one and I'm sure something wrong about it will be said because all I have seen on here is negative posts about the Verizon iPhone. Theres not reason to be hating, Apple is expanding things and if you like Apple products that should be a good thing. So can we please all just get along and stop talking crap about each others decisions.

So wait just a minute. You are saying that the faster phone is the Verizon one? Nice.

It's possible when it comes to loading webpages, maps, or Facebook wall feeds that Verizon will do those tasks quicker than AT&T will. AT&T will download large files quicker than Verizon will.

The best thing to do is to have one iPhone on AT&T and another on Verizon and compare speeds in the exact same location with speed test first and then by doing other tasks like loading a webpage, uploading a photo, and so forth. Numbers only tell so much and don't always translate into actual performance. Until then...

at least here in my location, so far the verizon iphone has been faster.

mileage may vary.....

Regardless, it completely spanked AT&T there.

I can't wait to see how my iPhone stacks up with my coworker's AT&T powered iPhone tomorrow. We're having a little friendly contest, and of course, we're so pitifully bored at work here that the office is treating it like the Kentucky Derby. :D

This is a great real world comparison in San Fransisco. I recommend everyone check it out!

I would like to agree with this video, but I cannot. This is a test of only two networks, in only 4 spots, in only 1 city. The test bed in this test is extremely limited.

Testing the two phones in Dallas, for example, would be a completely opposite results.
So you have to use these very limited results with an asterisk.

Yeah some of us can, in fact I never drop calls excpet on the beach, here in LA! I get great service, and fast data speeds. Don't hate. ;)

I can back that up. I have no major complaints with my AT&T service here.

I went to Miami on vacation, and the reception was even better.....

I play Team Fortress 2 from my macbook wirelessly connected to my Droid X with Wifi-Tether over Verizon's 3g network and run around a 60-70 ping. Where on my home connection through Time Warner Cable I get about 40ping.
Playing a FPS over a wifi connection to a phone on 3g and it actually being playable isn't all that bad.
I also never not 1 single time ever dropped a single phone call on my droid x or my previous droids on verizon.

I'm really hoping that my iphone that is on it's way to my doorstep will provide me with the same call and data quality. Just not both at the same time. Thats impossible*.

*may be a bit of sarcasm

Here are preliminary results near St. Louis. The AT&T ones are the best set of 6 I have gotten, the Verizon ones are the ones I just got today.

SF has always been a trouble spot for AT&T because of the amount of congestion on the network (hence the results).

It would be interesting to see that test ran again in June, but before iPhone 5 launch.

How does ping affect the results? Verizon typically has much lower ping that AT&T.

I run at around 100ms on ATT iPhone4.

EDIT: here is a result from just now, 10:29pm tethered iphone 4 ATT

However I've seen HSPA latencies down in the 40-60ms area on T-mobile HSPA(+). Probably due to less overall traffic and flat IP architecture.

This is my first smart phone so it looks ok to me as I have nothing to compare it to. Ignorance is bliss!

To the Verizon haters, you obviously don't live in Manhattan. Forget about data speeds we can't even make calls. My iPhone doesn't work at all in the lobby of 30 Rock (where I intern) and is spotty at best in my apartment. I wish I could switch to Verizon.

No one is holding you back, breaking contracts aren't punishable by death, pay the ETF and go to Verizon

Then why not switch over to Verizon? Seriously, it isn't that hard. Also, I've heard already plenty of reports from many other users here that state that New York city has gotten a lot better; including the Manhattan area.

Because I'm on a family plan with five lines. We're not going to pay the termination for five lines. AT&T has absolutely improved from when I first moved to the city in 2008, but not to the point where I get reliable coverage.

Idk why people are complaing or bashing AT&T's data speeds because i have never had any problems with them and i live in ABQ. Look at these speeds from a couple hours ago. I got 5.1 Mbps up and 1.29 Mbps Down.

And what do you know...at&t isn't automatically the road runner of telecos all the time either! Yes, at&t offers better speeds in places where they actually can function as a proper service provider and not just pretend they do. That's their selling point. IF at&t gives you amazing speeds, no dropped calls, reliable coverage then by all means GO for them! I would switch to them in a heartbeat if that's the kind of service they provided in my area. They simply don't. This is really rather simple, and moving away from childish retors like "my phone company can beat your phone company's ass" is a first much needed step. Pick the carrier that works for you in your area! This is exactly how it should be!

The iPhone is the phone, you pick the radio-juice that flows through it. But that's the whole point, you actually now have a choice to pick someone else if that someone else gives you your money's worth in good coverage or you can switch to someone else if they are better than the competition. I could care less about these companies, they simply let my phone make calls....I'll pick the one that lets me do that, you pick the one that works for you. Why do these turn into flamewars? How absurd! You now have a choice, pick whoever you like!

Well said.

Anyone else noticing HORRIBLE 3g speed?

Please list your state and rate your speed.

NJ- HORRIBLE!

I disagree about NJ being terrible. My wife and I just got the new Verizon iPhone and through SpeedTest in Southern New Jersey (Cherry Hill Area) we're seeing speeds averaging 1.5 download; upload on the other hand is considerably less, but I certainly download much more than I could ever upload from a smartphone device. The main difference I think many people overlook is download speeds vs. actual network consistency and connectivity. With Verizon, they may not boast the fastest speeds compared to AT&T, but their network is pretty consistent everywhere I've travelled. I regularly travel from NYC to DC and Atlantic City to Pittsburgh; all with excellent "CONSISTENT" 3G coverage; something I could never do with AT&T as is the case with 2/3 of my counterparts that travel the same territory.

Overall, I am generally pleased with the outcome of the Verizon iPhone 4; it's exactly what we expected from this platform and our service provider. That said, the antenna issues does indeed still exist with the Verizon iPhone, but it doesn't appear as bad as the AT&T issue; however I simply chock that up to overall network saturation in my area.

Whomever your carrier, just enjoy the iPhone; it's a great OS and platform for mobile users.

Some people never learn. "The grass is greener" is a farce.

Enjoy Verizon, the network you put on a pedestal.
