Quick question:
My friend is already running 4.2.1, can I just run GP and get the cydia loader and then just keep working with all his apps and other stuff? Or do you GP with a restored/empty phone?? I've never done this way as I usually perserve baseband and have a clean phone to jailbreak on.
Thanx in Advance.
Hey guys, I think Im in the mood to finally jailbreak. Ive seen a ton of complaints of issues with the untethered jailbreak. I just wanted to know if the windows version installed and working well for everyone and if cydia is installing and working fine now.
Thanks
Yes, there's no real need to Restore to a clean 4.2.1 before you apply the JB
The only small snag with this JB and also previous 4.x ones is with iBooks and DRM-protected books. That combination just won't work.
Hi guys,
I wanted to run my scenario by you and see if you had advice if I am on the right track to successfully JB'ing my iPhone with minimal issues.
Here's my current scenario:
3GS, old bootrom, 04.26.08 baseband, 4.0 JB with sn0wbreeze, unlocked with ultrasn0w.
I want to update to 4.2.1 + JB + unlock if possible.
It seems like redsn0w or GP are my two options, but I would like to maintain my baseband and keep GPS if possible. Keeping unlock capability is less of a desire at this point.
My tentative approach is as follows:
0) Backup phone in iTunes + PKGbackup for JB apps
1) Perform standard FW update to 4.2.1 via iTunes
2) JB with greenpois0n RC5_b4
will this approach preserve my BB, and give untethered JB, but no unlock capability?
Is it worth keeping current BB, or upgrading to iPad BB 6.15? I'd hate to lose GPS!
Meh, i dont even use ibooks....so cydia is working perfectly & installing perfectly fine with greenposion then?
thanks
This approach won't preserve the 04.26.08 baseband, updating via standard iTunes Restore process always applies the latest fw and baseband. This means you won't be able to unlock any time soon, possible never.
Seeing you sit with the beloved 04.26.08 baseband (resale value) I would definetely recommend building your own Custom 4.2.1 IPSW with PwnageTool (or as last resort the upcoming release of sn0wbreeze) or use Redsn0w.
Unless you're really desperate - don't go down the iPad baseband path
I see. So more appropriate method would be:
0) Backup phone in iTunes + PKGbackup for JB apps
1) Build custom IPSW 4.2.1 using PwnageTool, which preserves current BB
2) Perform FW update to 4.2.1 custom package from step 1 via iTunes
3) JB with greenpois0n RC5_b4
With this, I'd jailbreak, preserve BB, and have unlocking capability intact?
Hi, Anyone else having issues with JBing an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 for Mac? I'm following instructions exactly, puting my phone into DFU, it says it's jail breaking, then it says "Failed" and my phone just restarts normally. I'm not sure what's going on. Can anyone help?
You must keep pressing the home button until it finishes jbing. Do this many times if needed, mine jailbroke in the 5th attempt
How does one remove the loader program once Cydia is installed?
Anyone have any thought on where a pwnage solution will be released?

The same way you remove any other iPhone app.
These all sound like serious issues to me, any one of which might give a person pause when jailbreaking.Just a few observations that I noted:
Jailbreak went perfect (I have a 3GS). No issues doing the actual jailbreak. After the jailbreak I had a few problems.
Battery Drain. The battery drained out at a rate about twice what it was before the jailbreak. I have jailbroken the same phone before, and never had this problem. This wasn't the deal breaker though.
Slow restart. It would take about three to four times as long to restart after shut down. The GP symbol would be on the screen and it would take some time to get things running again. Still not a deal breaker.
Freezing during calls. This was the deal breaker. It continuously, I would say one out of every three calls, freeze up and have to be restarted, and this happened during the telephone calls themselves. This was the deal breaker for me.
It's really too bad. Other then the obvious fun in customizing your phone (which should so be a stock option), or custom sms tones (which should have been done from day 1) the jailbreak apps like bitesms are so wonderful to have.

Anyone else having these issues?
From within the Loader app, go to options and select remove.

Hello,
My iPhone 4 was jailbroken but NOT unlocked. It was a tethered jailbreak via redsnow. Then I ran GreenPois0n and untethered it and it worked flawlessly.
My sister has a 3GS and it is tethered jailbroken with redsnow and unlocked via untrasn0w and has the iPad baseband of 6.15.
If I run GreenPois0n on my sisters phone, will it do anything to my current unlock?
Thanks.
