PwnageTool should preserve your baseband (I'm in the middle of updating myself so I can't completely confirm) as it always has in the past. I would guess you'll get the infamous 1 signal problem because it's an issue with the iPhone 4 and this exploit.
so any reason to use redsnow over pwnage tool?
pwnage tool preserves BB
Redsn0w is faster because you don't have to restore your phone and resync everything if you've already updated to 4.3.1. It just jailbreaks it and you're done with all data intact.I get that. Is there any reason why one would opt to not preserve the bb and use redsnow? They both seem to be easy to utilize
Is there any advantage at all to using redsnow?

Ok, this is very odd.
If I toggle the vibrate switch to silent mode, the iPhone is supposed to vibrate as we all know.
However, since Jailbreaking, it doesn't always vibrate, and sometimes vibrates when I switch it back to the normal position, when it shouldn't.
I restored the phone to pre-jailbreak and it works fine so its definately a software related issue.
Has anyone else noticed this?
You're not wrong. If you don't care about preserving the bb, why would you choose the more complicated tool? I also believe the pwnage tool requires you to restore from backup and reinstall all jb apps. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Correct. They probably recommend restoring because you're less likely to have issues that way. I've used redsn0w without restoring plenty of times without a problem.ah so the iclarified instructions (that include restoring) are not needed???
In other words, I can just run redsn0w and be good?

Listen, the iPhone is very hard to actually brick. Just make sure you have a backup and know how to get into DFU mode and if you screw up and have to restore you'll be fine.
[EDIT] I just read their tutorial. They're assuming you aren't already on 4.3.1. That's the reason for the restore. What you can do alternatively is Option+Update to update without needing to restore and resync. That'll save you loads of time if you don't care about preserving your baseband.
u're right you create a custom ipsw, wait a while as its created, then click alt-restore and point it towards the custom restore.. then pray like hell that it worksIf you don't care about preserving the bb, why would you choose the more complicated tool? Don't tell me OpenNotifier doesn't work yet! It was working fine on my tethered 4.3 (I'm in the middle of a resync). I love that app and it's gorgeous icons.I jb'd and now for some reason I lost my txt and email icon notification bubbles... I have opennotifier is there issues with that?
It updated my iP4 to a custom 4.3.1 in less than 10 minutes. Another 5 for the actual restore and now I'm on a resync (that'll take ages since my iTunes is on an external drive on a file server and I'm connected to it via "g" wifi. Probably about 3-4 hours for 14GB).How long does it usually take for the 4.1.3 to restore on the phone. My phone has been connected to itunes for about an hour and still saying it's restoring new software. Hasn't moved for a while.

I've never had that happen. I would be really hesitant to put it back in DFU mode in the middle of a restore. I'd probably be googling an answer to be honest. I know you aren't the only one that's experienced that.I am still on the restore going from 4.0.1 to 4.3.1 and I have the apple logo on my ip4 with a bar thats half white. It doesn't seem like anything else is happening for a while now. Any idea what I should do?

[EDIT] Just did a quick search and found a ton of topics. Looks like it's safe to pull the plug and try again.
