Hopefully this won't sound like to "dumb" of a question, but does Redsn0w work on a Verizon (CDMA) iPhone? According to the Devteam blog it's for the GSM phone. I'm jailbroken now on 4.2.6 and don't need to upgrade, especially if it will mess things up and cause me to lose it.

** Never mind - a little googling answered that question quick enough...... it was a "dumb" question.

It is my understanding that you need to be on 4.3.1

Updated my iPhone 4 to 4.3.1, ran redsn0w, everything went smooth. Then ran "aptbackup" and clicked restore, phone was updating for 5 mins or so, then restarted, now all my apps are gone! And iTunes is showing a lot of space occupied by "other".

What should I do from here?

good news everyone! i installed 3g unrestrictor yesterday for just the heck of it, since my iPhone restored as new, i'm not afraid if the app messes up with my phone, and lucky me, 3g unrestrictor works like a champ! :D

I've never had that happen. I would be really hesitant to put it back in DFU mode in the middle of a restore. I'd probably be googling an answer to be honest. I know you aren't the only one that's experienced that.

[EDIT] Just did a quick search and found a ton of topics. Looks like it's safe to pull the plug and try again.

happened to me when i upgraded to 4.2.1 - i was using pwnagetool 4.2
i just yanked out the usb socket from the phone and set the phone back to dfu - and repeated the whole thing.. no lasting probs from what i remeber

Anyone having trouble with text messages always vibrating even when "Vibrate" is turned off? I have it set to vibrate when in silent mode but not when the ringer is on. Even when I turn off both it still does the new double vibrate for sms, but thankfully not for phone calls.

Just for reference I have an iPhone 4 running 4.3.1 and I used Redsn0w.

i downloaded the 4.3.1 ipsw but its coming out in a bunch of folders in a bunch of different files instea the ipsw.... when i go in redsnow it cant find it. im running windows. any ideas? thanks

when you conncect u're phone to itunes, it will prompt u that a new version of ios is available, (4.3.1) you can:
-ignore or cancel
-download and upgrade
-download only

click on download only.. thid will download the ipsw file redsnow will prompt you for later.. once downloaded, turn off u're iphone (make sure u have backed up) and run redsnow

ipsw should be in

users/(name)/library/iTunes/iphone software updates

hope this helps

yesterday i updated to 4.3.1 and still keep the baseband 01.59 to unlock with ultrasn0w 1.2 but it doesnt work :(.i saw iclarified they said can be unlock with ultrasn0w but......they suck

lol

bape47, i always check the source first - check the iphone dev team blog here

"WARNING WARNING — ultrasn0w users don’t update yet! We need to first release an update to ultrasn0w that fixes some incompatibilities when FW 4.3.1 is used on the older basebands supported by ultrasn0w. And remember once we do fix ultrasn0w for 4.3.1 (we’ll announce it here and on twitter), you must only get there via a custom IPSW from PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze or xpwn! Don’t ever try to restore or update to a stock IPSW, or you’ll lose the unlock!"

Did you install the latest Ultrasn0w fixer 4.3.1? Clearly, the dev team has warned people on the new jailbreak 4.3.1 relate to Ultrasn0w unlock. Red their blog.

Finally updated from 4.1 today using pwnagetool. Everything went fine until I tried restoring my pkgbackup, then got stuck in a safe mode loop. Gave up trying to figure out what the culprit is and instead reinstalled packages one by one. Whatever.

The only issue I have is that I still have baseband 1.59.00 and my phone always shows 1 bar of service, which is kind of annoying.

i paid 8 bucks for Pkgbackup yesterday for the upgrade (trying to support developers for a change), but it was a total failure after upgrading. it would restore a package here or there, half install some packages, and finally just quit restoring any at all. i tried to install several packages from Cydia that weren't able to be restored and got errors because of what i assume were bits of the packages that didnt migrate via Pkgbackup.

i had to do another clean restore and then install everything one by one again from cydia. total waste of money : (

What's battery life like with 431 JB?
Seems the battery life on 4.31 was never addressed, so I'm guessing it's even worse JB'd?

no issue with battery life here before or after jailbreak.

before jailbreak, with push on, 3g on, wifi on, bluetooth off, brightness 50%, i managed to reach 8 hours of usage and 1 day and 9 hours of stand by, but when i'm playing games like N.O.V.A 2, probably the battery only last 5 hours, but it's still good.

after jb, the settings are the same, but i removed some unused LaunchDaemons to free up a bit of ram, and installed springtomize, 3g unrestrictor and all been fine without any battery life issue.

I haven't run a jailbreak since the original all manual days of the original iPhone (apart from a brief foray into tethered jailbreaking on my iPad), but thought I'd give it a go again with this (mainly to get facetime over 3g). The actual jailbreak was very painless, but I thought cydia has turned into a real mess with adverts everywhere and people wanting $3+ for minor tweaks. I realised then that I don't want to facetime over 3g badly enough to put up with it, so I'm currently restoring back to stock 4.3.1
I'm sure jailbreaking is great for some (most?) people, but it just isn't for me

That pretty much sums up how I feel about Jailbreaking.

I'm still convinced that people who Jailbreak would, in the main, be more likely to buy an Android device, because they are searching for the "openness" associated with what comes with "open source".

I jailbroke my iPhone 4 on 4.2 and set the phone up with the animation speed up tweak (it's name escapes me right now), as well as the barrel home screen animation, etc. Sure, it looked "cool", but I bought an iPhone because I wanted an iPhone, and for some reason I'm one of those people who likes to do things "officially".

My iMac runs on Snow Leopard with the default wallpaper. I've ran Onyx to lock the Dock size so no-one can change it from the default. My iPhone 4 is on 4.3.1 and uses a self edited default wallpaper, because the teal colour at the top isn't as rich as it is in the promo shots Apple use.

Maybe it's just that, for me, Apple does things so well out the box that anything else, again to me, feels "wrong".

Each to their own though.

Guys, this is a jailbreak thread... The moral high ground is too the left.

Following iClarified's instructions, and upgrading from firmware 4.1 (JB'd-Greenpoison), I connected my phone to iTunes, did Option + Restore, pointed it to 4.3.1 that I previously downloaded.

The restore started, and quickly progressed to the halfway point on the status/progress bar displayed on the phone, and has been stalled (seemingly) there for the past 15-20 minutes. Is this normal? If not, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Where is your hosts file pointing...check it to be sure TinyUmbrella did not leave it pointing to Cydia.

Sheesh, i get 5.5 hours of usage before its time to plug in. Did you have to turn off Ping at all that jazz? Which iphone do you have and is it brand new??

Has anyone noticed a significant ?lag when opening apps... Twitter apps in particular.

I tried twitter for iPhone and echofon... Both open very slow, show me a white screen and take long to load tweets...
And when switching from timeline to replies in twitter for iPhone it is really slow... I think this is after the jailbreak. Can anyone confirm?

If you don't care about preserving the bb, why would you choose the more complicated tool? I also believe the pwnage tool requires you to restore from backup and reinstall all jb apps (as does redsnow). Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If you just want to jailbreak and you dont need to unlock the phone then Redsn0w is all you need.

Pwnage is not complicated is simply serves a different purpose.

In Truth, I believe most here who are having issues are preserving older basebands that are not compatible with 4.3.1. The Dev team will be releasing updates so if you are an unlocker...you better off waiting a couple of weeks.

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 4 and I have just updated to 4.3.1 on iTunes

What do i need to do to jailbreak 4.3.1 ?

For Newbies:

The best approach is to stay away from newly released jailbreaks for a couple of weeks.

I have not seen a single jailbreak release that did not have some issue. Do you really want to be a beta tester for the Dev team?

I never install a JB out of the gate, and I have never had to deal with the initial frustrations.
