Jailbreak 4.3.1 with redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 on iPad 1

Ran the jailbreak this morning and it seemed to install okay, but when finished and the iPad rebooted the Safari icon would quickly flash and back off it would go. Samething for the Cydia app.

Any ideas?

I'm a little confused by something. If I'm on the 1.59 bb and I use pwnage tool to update to 4.3.1, am I going to have problems with my signal strength even if I don't need to unlock? (I'm on at&t) I'd like to preserve my bb so that I can unlock in the future if I have to (or if I want to sell my phone unlocked), but am going to have problems using the 1.59 bb with 4.3.1?

There is a known bug in the software update that causes problems with older basebands (obviously, older basebands were never intended to be used with 4.3.1).

However, you should get service even though the signal strength bars are stuck at 1 bar. For me, it is this way. I kept the old 01.59.00 baseband and updated; however, I only get a perceived notion of 1 bar. However, I can make calls and get the same 3G speeds.

Thanks but I have no service. I cannot make or receive calls.

would i need to use tinyumbrella to save my 4.0.2's 1.5 BASEBAND when installing 4.3.1 first like i would normally in order to update, and then AFTERWARDS use pwnagetool/redsn0w to jailbreak, therefore i can still use the ultrasn0w to unlock? btw, is this worth an upgrade from 4.1? thx.

mine is getting stuck in uploading to ramdisk!!!!

any help?

I've done it a couple of times and each time it goes a little further, but keeps getting stuck there... iphone 4 4.3.1

edit...

it get stuck in either first, second or third blocks of uploading to ramdisk.

I'm having the exact same problem. Tried it 4 or 5 times and it always hangs at "Uploading ramdisk". The phone is displaying "Downloading Jailbreak Data". If given enough time (say 20 minutes) the phone eventually reboots and everything is back to normal (no jailbreak). I can't seem to get past this step with redsn0w on Windows 7 (3GS).

and are we still allowed to downgrade with tiny umbrella if we have our ssh saved already if we dont like the 4.3.1 update?

Can Jailbroken people on the iPhone 4 check their vibrate switches are operating properly as I know a few people who have the same problem as I do.

It doesn't always vibrate when you flick it to silent, and sometimes does vibrate when flick it back to the normal position, when it shouldn't.

Anyone else? What would cause this?

It doesn't really matter but its annoying me!

I fixed it by flipping the switch back and forth a few times. Seems to have worked for me!

He says how he fixed it right below that post...

Jail broken. Got cydia. Signals are fine. What do I do now with cydia? Never jail broken b4. What are the must have JB apps?

Just jailbroken, got signal and cydia appears as it should.
How do i now get all my data back onto the iPhone? do i restore from my last back up or have to set up as a new phone ?
Thanks :)

TONS of threads about this... do a search.

But here are my 'essentials': BiteSMS, SBSettings, Notified Pro, Activator, Remind Me Later, Five Column SB, Haptic Pro, Winterboard, Infinifolders, Infinidock, iFile, MxTube, PerPageHTML, RemoveBG, PkgBackup...

There is a known incompatibility between 4.3.1 and older basebands. It is possible that your host file was pointing to cydia and when you updated you preserved the previous baseband. Did you have a recovery error and have to kick it out of recovery.

Check your baseband and if it is not the standard baseband that comes with 4.3.1 then you need to restore again through itunes but change your host file to point to apple instead. You can do this through Tiny umbrella by unchecking the "Point host file to cydia on exit" check box under advance mode.
and then close tiny umbrella.

The pwnage went fine. I did receive an error when I tried to restore my backups - one time.

Thanks - I have 04.10.01 modem firmware.

Question: Anyone successfully jailbroken to 4.3.1 with 1.59.00 baseband while keeping service? I have yet to see a comment about this. I want to preserve my baseband so I can sell it come this summer.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've lost my contacts after Jailbreak. I've just restored iPhone 4 to a non Jailbreak state and the contacts are there as they should be from the same backup. Very strange if nobody else is experiencing this

May have to wait a little

It seems that this current JB is going pretty well with a regular JB. One that doesn't require preserving BB's. I'm not sure if there will be some sort of update for this or not but there seems to be an incapatibility between any BB older than the current in iTunes.

Big up's to the developers for producing this JB because the pros far outweigh the con's.

Does the Dev Team ever come out with updates to known JB issues or is that something that comes in like some sort of patch program in Cydia?

Yes, me. Just run TSS Server and Redsn0w and you'll be fine.

If you have SSH files from previous versions, you can downgrade.

for windows redsn0w problems.. try

launch redsn0w, go to taskmanager, right click on redsn0w.exe, Set Affinity, uncheck cpu 0. make sure only cpu 1 is checked. then try to JB again

Dude, how do you even know that??? Genius!! it worked finally....I also had to run in XP compatibility mode

Two thumbs up to you Mr. Affinity knowing man! :D

Everything working great on my end. I don't load the phone up with too much but here is my life if anyone cares. Also, it is nice to have MyWi acting like a real AP instead of an adhoc:

BiteSMS
Mywi
My3G
Winterboard
iFile
iBlank
SbSettings

I'm having trouble as well, anything I try to download it seems to run and install but at the very end it says host errors and nothing ever installs.

Also a weird glitch - I was 4.2.1 Jailbroken before, updated to 4.3.1 then Jailbroke again just today, when I did the Cydia app icon was just a blank white logo. Every time I went to search the screen flickered very rapidly while the Apple logo and loading bar came up in the background as if the system was loading something, then it would stop 3/4ths of the way and stick to the screen no matter what I did with the phone. This stopped after restarting twice, and Cydia got it's regular icon back suddenly, but I still can't seem to install anything. Also everything is trying to download and install Mobile Substrate, is that supposed to keep happening? I thought the jailbreak installed the latest one already.

I've just had Cydia soiling itself in just the way you're describing for a couple of reboots. It seems to have settled down now.

I only have Mywi but that loaded about 5 other dependencies (including mobile substrate). Took 2 attempts to get that lot to load cleanly.

Mywi appears to be running smoothly, as does Cydia, and I can open DRM'd iBook purchases again, not that I'll be buying any more. It'll be DRM-free alternatives or kindle ebooks pushed through eBookUtility0.5 for me from now on...
