Dear Trolls,

I think I can speak for 'most' intelligent Apple supporters by saying that we don't make our Apple purchases based on screen size, amount of RAM, battery capacity or any other ridiculous spec you like to throw out. We own and buy Apple products because we appreciate the careful thought put into the design, materials and craftsmanship of their products. When we spend our hard earned money on an Apple product we feel confident that we haven't wasted our money on a poorly designed, poorly executed product. Feel free to 'label' as zealots, fanboys, lemmings or flat out 'dumb' if that helps to somehow make you feel better about yourself, but we really don't care what you think because having a smaller screen, less RAM or lower capacity battery in our smartphones doesn't make us feel inferior to the rest of the worlds smartphone population. :apple:

This sums it up. Thank you.

iPhone users are so tech stupid that if you tell them that they have 512MB of ram they would think that they have 511MB more than a 1GB phone. iphone users don't buy for specs. Those that do jumped to Android a long time ago.
So why should Apple upgrade the RAM? Their still going to buy the phone.

First off: *they're

Secondly: Optimization of the OS and hardware has allowed for Apple to keep the RAM lower than their competitors.

Unless, of course, the iWatch is real... It's surprising how well it's been under wraps...

Because it's not probably in production yet. Just like when they pulled out the new Mac Pro. Nobody had any idea how that would look until it was revealed.

The display's black contrast on iPhone 6 sucks. I hope it's just because of how the photo was taken :-/

Yeah, I noticed that too, it looks terrible. Black levels are definitely the most important thing OLED has over LCD. But we'll see, it could be any number of things such as lighting, glancing angle, some kind of auto-gain or other processing in the photo, who knows. I doubt Apple will release a really bad screen because they've set a pretty high standard over the years, but I definitely have black level envy of (some) Android user's screens.

1GB of RAM on a PHONE is enough.

If it turns out to be true that the 5.5" model will have a resolution higher than the iPad (as mentioned in the article), will you say the same?

I think his points are very valid on a flagship phone released at the end of 2014. There are more than just specs but I do expect a minimum spec level. And 1GB is not enough on the 5S and definitely the iPad.

For Apple, there is no minimum spec level. They assume their target customer group (the broadest range of humanity) knows nothing of specs. Just like their promos say, Apple is only concerned with “how a product makes you feel”. Of course, they’d like to add in specs just to compete with competitors’ numbers, but the fact is every spec they add means a tradeoff somewhere else (size, weight, speed, battery life, heat, etc) which will affect how the product makes the user “feel”. You can bet every choice is calculated and builds toward a very deliberately specific and delicate balance—which is why they’re reluctant to make changes, and why they’re downright stubborn in certain areas. And sadly for a lot of us, the balance they struck is catered toward the common folk. Apple is bound to upset more demanding users like a lot of us here, but there’s not much we can do except go to Android or Windows (yeah right). (Although I would say Apple does a better job of pulling out the best performance from lower specs than competitors do simply because of their obsessive control over both hardware and software.) All that said, balance grows “off” over time as the mass public and technology changes, so I’m sure they’ll add RAM and all these other things soon enough.

?

Purported iP6 5.5”
2208 × 1242 = 2,742,336 pixels

Existing retina spec iPads
2048 x 1536 = 3,145,728 pixels

(resolution != pixel density)

This iPhone could have never ending battery life, a nuclear generator as a SoC... I don't care.

With 1 GB of RAM, we know people will be getting screwed when they buy one. To a lesser extent, it already happened with iPad Air, mini retina and even the 5s. What a bummer, if true.

Since the a7 is already limited by the 1 GB of Ram, they might as well use it on the next devices too.

What you said needs to be copy and pasted... again and again and again!

Apple: "desktop class CPU", "1990's TI-88 RAM." Un-********** believable.

My FireTv has more RAM.

Secondly: Optimization of the OS and hardware has allowed for Apple to keep the RAM lower than their competitors.

That's an Apple taking point. Fact is optimization can only do so much. Safari needs more RAM. Tab reloads are all too common and should not happen.

I've never met customers who expect less out of a company than Apple fans. It's almost like a religious cult. You tell us what to believe (Apple talking point about optimization and battery drain due to more pixels) and we will spread the word and those who question aren't holy and have no idea what they are talking about.

Now... I just hope Gruber is WRONG about 3x (~460PPI) on the 5.5"... A battery-burning high DPI you can't even see in any normal use. (Only sounds good on paper. I wish other companies hadn't started that trend.)

But I fear he's probably right. 3x coupled with Gurman's "point" numbers works out logically the way he describes.

I'm sure battery life will still be OK, and I'll probably try the 5.5" just for novelty (I can always change back in a couple years). But I'll also know the battery life could have been even better with a saner PPI: if all sizes of the iPhone kept the already great (and developer-friendly) 326 PPI, giving the 5.5" 1564 × 880.

Remember the 5.5" model will be larger though, therefore more room for more battery. Whether it's enough to cover the difference I don't know, I would hope so. Personally I wish they would add another mm or 2 back and just give it killer battery life but alas, that is not the Apple Way. I don't think Apple wants to use such a high resolution, but it might be difficult not to because of all the other factors involved (point size, touch targets, standard developer asset sizes like 2X, 3X, etc.).

Really? Getting screwed? This has to be some of the most overblown nonsense I've ever read.

You're right it's not more, but it'll be very close to the same. So my question remains. You asserted that 1 GB was enough for "a PHONE", implying through emphasis that it would not be the case for a tablet. So would 1 GB still be enough? Much tougher call, I think.

Really? Getting screwed? This has to be some of the most overblown nonsense I've ever read.

I think getting screwed is the wrong word. It's just a major bottleneck on a best in class leading processor. Too bad, but at least the margins are protected.

The display's black contrast on iPhone 6 sucks. I hope it's just because of how the photo was taken :-/

That was the first thing I noticed. It reminds me of the screen on my nexus 5. Horrible blacks because of the backlight.

I'm not a huge fan of the curved back though. Love the clean the clean straight lines on my 5S.

That said, I care way more about features than how the thing looks. Not specs, because I've never felt like the prior phones are too slow or that I run out of memory very often. More like what can this phone do that my 5S can't? Sensors? More connectivity options? I don't know, so I think that will be the interesting part of the keynote.

I feel the same way with the iPhone 6 coming. I have an iPhone 5 that I am very happy with it because it is the first smart iPhone I have owned out of many that works so damn well with the meager specs that the specs nazis are always protesting about.

The main reason I will upgrade to the iPhone 6 is for the band 12 frequency for LTE to get a more reliable connection. If it doesn't have this then I am in no rush to upgrade because like I said, this phone works so well in the over 1 year I have owned it.

It's all around Safari. iPad tab refreshes way too often with 2-3 tabs open. It's better on the 5S, but still happens. An extra GB would fix this problem and really make both take that step to the next level.

The OS is otherwise fine with 1GB, but I use Safari mainly on the iPad.

It's not just Safari. Games in particular are greatly affected. I personally had to remove quite a few graphics and animations I wanted to use in my last game because of memory pressure on the iPad (particularly iPad 3, but even the Air had issues).

So this type of thing is something that you as a user would not even know about, things you might be missing out on that a developer had to tone down or leave out because of low memory.

You know that this iPhone 6 wasn't build by Apple, right?
Probably there is gap between the glass and the LCD panel. The real iPhone 6's display will be as good as on the iPhone 5s if not even better. ;)

I'm not sure if someone else has said it, but why would iPhone 6 parts cause iOS to display resolution to be as if it were an iPhone 5/S? I thought Apple would have updated OS UI, no?

You want to call iPhone users dumb, but you can't even use the correct version of there, they're and their.

THEIR (belongs to someone)
THERE (location)
THEY'RE (they are)

That's THEIR iPhone over THERE. THEY'RE trying to get it back from the police.

Full size desktop computers run fine with 1 GB RAM, and 128 MB or video RAM (which is not necessarily the same)
Except when running Java applications; which is what other OSs that run 'Davlik is not Java' do; then you might want more RAM.

I think at such a pathetic resolution 1gb ram will be enough for the 4.7. :D

But, will the 5.5 have a higher resolution? If so, will it have 2gb of ram?

If people that buy Apple products are so dumb.... what would you call a person who spends their time in an Apple forum reading about Apple news about Apple products, who doesn't even like/want them....?

There was a time when Apple had the best phone on the market; the iPhone 4. It had the best screen of any phone and it was super smooth with a elegant design. But because Apple had that silly exclusive deal with AT&T many people ended up with Android instead. So when iPhone hit Verizon it was already a 7 month old phone. And then the iPhone 4s came out which was not that much different. This was when Apple fell behind in my opinion. Android got better and screens started to match or surpass the retina display.
Many Android users including myself want to see that Apple magic but it appears that Apple just wants to play catch up. We already know that Apple makes a smooth elegant phone but this is not good enough. Where is that ground breaking feature? Or how about put that 64 bit processor to better use with more memory?
Introducing that 64 bit processor so early might back fire on Apple. Google might have a tablet with a 64bit processor, 64bit operating system with 4gigs of ram and quad HD display. That tablet will undercut the iPad in pricing. And next year we should see the first phone with 4gigs of ram.

-1GB isn't enough, sorry apple fans.
-A8 will be a beast as was the A7. Hello snapdragon you caught up a year later?
-Samsung alpha is "only" 720p
-iPhone display has been consistently been top quality
-hello LG 2K display overheating
-android has recently passed iPhone in battery life but somehow iPhone's battery life is terrible?
-NFC on the iPhone is huge, this is what will bring it to the masses.
-iPhone build is second to none.
-sapphire glass for the masses
-bulletproof ecosystem that just works.

There's no "perfect" smartphone, but this is what the iPhone makes waves and sells millions at launch.
