I found a side by side pic of 38mm vs 40mm and you can hardly make a difference and reason being the width is increased only by .7mm and height by 1.4mm which is negligible, when the screen is turned-off.

Wow! You can barely tell the difference for sure. I’m going to see if I can find a side by side of the 42 and 44. Maybe that will help me decide.

Here it is. 40 vs 42, 42 vs 44.

That is quite the difference. Yet you can hardly tell between the 42 and 44
In person the difference is not really visible. And the sifference between 38/40 and 42/44 is not 2mm. It is 1,4-1,5mm as the old ones are 38,6 and 42,5mm.

I guess I’m at a disadvantage not having owned one before. I think I’m leaning towards the 44. But that means a wait until December. At least

In my opinion the 40mm watch is not suitable for most men. You need a real small wrist (140-170mm) and a small hand too. A small wrist with a big hand on a large guy does not look good (in my opinion).
The 40mm is 1,5mm higher than the 38,5mm watch. This is not much.

Attached a photo of my girlfriends 38mm on my 150mm wrist, it makes the wrist look even smaller, especialy with the big hand.

For me your watch (oleski) is ok, but you could use the 44mm without problems.

Hardly. The Rolex Submariner is one of the most ubiquitous luxury watches ever made, and it wears very similar to my 38mm SS on the link bracelet. Both the face and the link bracelet of the 38mm are actually a little larger than on a Submariner.

As mentioned above, if you're a watch guy/girl, and you want something more reminiscent of a classic luxury watch, 38/40 is the way to go. If you want something that looks like a smartwatch, or an oversized department store watch, 42/44 is the way to go.

Here's a pic I took a few years ago with my Series 0 38mm. The 38mm option is what convinced me to even try the Apple Watch in the first place. Even though the screen of the new 40mm version is much nicer, I actually think the more square, old Series 0 38mm version is a little better looking and more masculine when the screen is off.

I haven’t worn a watch in 15 years or so so I’m not exacting a watch girl! LOL.

But isn't the Submariner a 40mm sized watch? Some similar ranged priced Hublots are at 44mm. Also the higher AP brand do "over sized department store" 44mm watches too.

Traditional watches are measured in with and not in height.
And with the Submariner there is more than just the measurement of the circle.
Overall I think the Submariner looks much bigger than your apple watch.

Well, Hublots are a bit of a joke to many watch lovers, but, sure, Panarais are generally large, too. Those larger watches that were popular last decade are falling out or favor and sizes have been coming back down over the last five years. The Submariner is the standard, and it’s been about the same size for over 50 years.

Either way, even for those who like a larger mechanical watch, they don’t stand out nearly as much as a big screen on the wrist.

It’s all about screen or dial size. I have a 39mm Aqua Terra that looks larger on the wrist than my 40mm Submariner, because the Aqua Terra has a larger dial. The Apple Watch is essentially all “dial,” so, even though the case of the Submariner is a little larger, the face of the 38mm Apple Watch is way bigger, and, like I said before, the link bracelet of the 38mm Watch is also larger than the Sub’s bracelet.

My point isn’t to say everyone should get the smaller AW. My point is that the poster above saying the 38mm/40mm is for woman is way off base, because it reads very similar in size to many of the all-time classic watches out there.

For me, part of the appeal of the first AW was that the 38mm option didn’t look like the big Android smart watches already out there. It was sized like a more classic watch.

We will be going to the store today to try them on again. If I want the 44 I’ve got to get my order in. Dec 4th pickup is INSANE!!!! And so disappointing.

Went and tried them on again. It’s impossible to get a good picture and this time they had a huge black security device attached to it (I went to a phone store because the Apple store is further away). Still unsure. But leaning towards the 44.

I’m thinking the same. The question now is do I order online and wait the month or roll the dice and see if one becomes available in the stores? I don’t want to mess with the Black Friday Madness and worry it could be longer if I wait.

Well, it seems like your wrist size is enough for both sizes. You definitely will NOT look silly (ridiculous) with 44mm.
Thank you. I haven’t worn a watch in many MANY years so it all feels a bit strange to me to begin with. I truly appreciate all the insight and support I’ve received here in this forum.

Definitely the 44mm for you. You won’t be disappointed with it, trust me.

I had the 42 and I got the 40. I could of waited a few weeks for the 44 but it kind of looked too big on me. Heres a picture of a 42 that ended up breaking. And the 40. And the 40 on me
