I've had an iPad Pro with the Pro Motion display, and I really can't tell one way or the other any difference from my iPhone or my desktop monitor which is 60hz.
That’s because it probably just sucks on the iPad.

I have a promotion iPad as well, and I never notice it either. Then last year I checked out a co-workers phone that had 120 Hz, and it was pretty unbelievable. You can’t put your finger on it, but everything is just “different”.

Although this probably means that even if promotion comes to the iPhone it will just suck too.

Ah well i won't be upgrading just for that. I have a 12 Pro Max anyway, there's no good reason to upgrade. I usually do every 2 years nowadays.

As long as they intend to push forward with their anti-privacy functionality, my iPhone XS is my last iPhone.

Omg, what anti-privacy functionality? The one where they check if you uploaded any picture from the CSAM database without actually looking at any of the pictures? And only if you actually decide to use iCloud Photos.

That’s like…. Nothing. Unless you plan on using dumbphones, I’m not sure what “privacy” focused phone you’ll find if this bothers you. It sure as hell won’t be Android and Google Photos, let me tell you now.

I'll probably upgrade from XS Max to 13 Pro Max. Really don't care about the refresh rate; current phone is "good enough." But I'll go for the camera improvements, always on display (love that on the watch), and max out on storage.

Haha, 120hz is 120hz, it’s not like there is a better or a worse one. If you can’t notice it on one screen but can on another, what you’re noticing on that other screen is something else - perhaps motion blur. Most likely it’s just placebo, as higher refresh rates are easier to see on bigger screens.

It is quite noticeable when you put a ProMotion and a non-ProMotion iPad next to one another. But it’s not a big deal there and it certainly won’t be on 6”.

I’ll upgrade from my XR when they get rid of the notch. Here’s hoping they keep that mini around.

the disinterest in the mini is so surprising to me. if you've used it, you'll never want to go back to anything else. I have a 12 mini and will for sure be getting a 13 mini, especially if long-term they stop making small devices. 12 and 13 will likely have at least 5 years of iOS support so it seems like a worthwhile buy regardless.

Got to spend about 1hr with a 12 Mini yesterday...And i gotta say i loved it! The size and weight felt so nice in the hand compared to my 12P. So much so that i am considering going with the 13 Mini when released.

Very interesting.

Please note:
the 12 mini has only Wide and Ultrawide cameras - thus any macro / portrait shots (beyond selfie) may not be the best. Judging from the dummy's shown/leaked seems the lenses are the same so I suspect no changes to Wide + Portrait (something I hoped for).

5G modem will also change and thus should be more efficient + the apple silicon SOC also will be significantly more efficient + slightly larger battery equals an increase of battery life across teh 13 series.

Excited to get the 13 Mini!
You and me both!

It's a fantastic little beast!
Exceptionally great to hold in the hand!

considering it has a higher ASP and profit than the SE / Xr models, I will be getting AppleCare+ on the 13 mini. Especially since my 12 mini (from March 2021) has dropped 10% in battery health I'm going to push for Apple to keep the support up to 5yrs - even if I pay out of pocket for a battery replacement at 4yrs time frame.

I’ve upgraded every generation of the flagship iPhone since the first one was released, and every year it’s the camera upgrade that I most look forward to.

I have to admit that for the first time this CSAM privacy debacle has me questioning whether I even really need an upgrade from the 12 Pro. My existing iPhone and iOS 14.8 may be where I pause until Apple come to their senses on respecting their customers’ “human right” to privacy.

Law enforcement is important, but they need to figure out how best to achieve their goals with the tools they have at their disposal, and Apple should remain focused on their customers which in my mind are the people who buy their devices, not law enforcement agencies.

Pretty sure study after study still shows Apple better than android on that front*, but maybe you are moving to something like PinePhone.

To check the time or if you have any notifications without having to interact with your phone. Especially useful for countdown timers where you want the information to update but don’t need the phone fully open and refreshing at 60Hz.

If Apple felt like making more than the minimum effort they could even allow widgets to present information like weather or calendar. So when you go to pick up your phone you see something like “rain expected in 10 minutes” without manually unlocking and checking.

tldr; quality of life
One has a wall clock. Very retro, I know.

Yes hoping for this. My impression is that many 12 Mini users (and reviews) main complaint (if any) has been battery. So any improvements to that would be most welcome. Especially since i currently have a bit of battery anxiety with my 12P. But there are quite compact battery packs available so maybe not an issue after all more of an inconvenience really.

really 44%? I thought it would be more than that….

I can’t wait for the next iPhone.
I expected less than that tbh. as there wasn't a point for me to upgrade from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro Max.
And I don't think there's a point for me upgrading my 11 PM to a 13 PM.
