not every iphone pro buyer is buying it for shooting 4k 30fps prores. hell since buying pro models since 11 pro I rarely use video

What's really funny is most of the people complaining the loudest with a sky-is-falling attitude likely don't what ProRes is about, the benefits, and have never made a half serious video more than a minute or two long. It's just something to whine about and have a good slag at Apple.

Hell, they could call it that. Or drop the make the starting price of the 128GB to $899 (128GB Pro 6.1) and $999 (128GB Pro 6.7) then.

Pro Max
128 - 999
256 - 1199
512 - 1399
1TB - 1599

Prices in Finland:

128 - 1499 euros
256 - 1629 euros
512 - 1889 euros
1TB - 2199 euros

just to provide some reference for pro-res:

a 128GB datafile would be roughly 7 minutes of total footage. considering, you need to download apps and other datafiles, lets say 5 minutes the total amount you would get.

im not a video professional but this seems like me having a Bugatti with a gallon of gas.

Considering it's the flagship "Pro model I would have thought they would have just made the base storage level 256GB rather than drop a "Pro" feature.

Logic is not mind blowing. Not everyone goes to the specs and yes, in Australia, you WOULD be entitled to a full refund if it came up. It does NOT specify this when I chose the Mem option. As I said,..always lowest common denominator and you shouldnt have to look at the spec sheet, it should be clear and visible on EVERY advertisement and at purchase.

This perspective is mind-boggling. The onus is on YOU to know what you're buying. Apple lays it all out for you, so it's YOUR fault if you choose to not educate yourself on your purchase. Not that this is going to be an issue anyway, since, again, no one looking to record massive 4k ProRes video files is going to be purchasing a 128GB model 😂

Not good enough. It's not listed when I go to purchase via a carrier,..nor via the Apple Store! Are staff trained to advise when purchasing? It might be good enough elsewhere, but assumption is always based on the normal buyers ability,..NOT hunting out the tech spec page to locate. Clearly Apple should be advertising this loud and clear.
carriers that advertise 4k prores for iPhone 14 pro lists 1080p as the limitation for 128gb

if they didn't advertise prores, customer wouldn't know about the feature so it's not a problem

apple store staff are trained to answer that question.

apple is doing it properly.

For how expensive these phones are, for how much larger apps and games are getting, and how much storage photos and especially videos (not even mentioning ProRes) are getting, it's absolutely ridiculous that the base storage isn't 256. This isn't even about Pro usage at all. 128 GB fills up fast these days. 256 GB should be the standard.

apple wouldn't mind increasing price and making 256gb, but people would complain about apple raising prices

Apple doing everything it can to squeeze every penny from its consumers.

This company is ethically corrupt.

in some obvious ways, yes.

this one, not necessarily so much. 4k prores recording will absolutely murder storage space. so on one side, sure they could just enable it and then the complaint is "it doesnt have enough space!"

so then the next complaint is "well, start everyone at the 256!"

at which point the price point will start there as well, that's not as sexy.

then you have some people in this thread who say 128 is fine for them, and they dont care about prores recording, should they only have access to the other pro features they care about if they pay extra to have something they have no interest in?

prores recording is also going to be a very niche feature for those who are actually caring to use it, and i guarantee those people will want the higher tier storage anyway, likely going to start minimum 512 if not take the 1tb out for this feature. they'll also likely use something like filmic pro for the extra functions and recording options that will absolutely demolish available storage space.

im going to wager on the side that most of the people getting angry over this are upset about something that has no effect on them.

all that being said, i do think these should be starting at 256 anyway, prores aside. but remember this is the company that stays on lower storage tiers for much longer than anyone likes. this isn't new. it's not great, but getting upset about something you already know is going to happen is silly business.

I went for 512GB but the 256GB should really be the minimum in my opinion. Should have increased the price by 50$ and ditched the 128GB. Lower capacity cheaper versions can remain for the non pros

I can just imagine this comments section if the article was about Apple enabling 4K ProRes on the 128gb models…

“I tried filming a 5 minute video and now I have no space left… you suck Apple, I’m returning my iPhone and buying a Samsung!”

On the pro?

iPhone 13 Pro
128GB - $999
256GB - $1099
512GB - $1299
1TB - $1499

iPhone 14 Pro
128GB - $999
256GB - $1099
512GB - $1299
1TB - $1499

looks the same.

The fact that they are selling the base model with 128gb is ridiculous still. Upsell away. Pro device that you have to upgrade to use all the Pro features.
It’s one way to squeeze an extra buck. Brilliant marketing.

They have the 128gb option to keep the “from” price tag. But in reality, most people will take the larger storage options. Not because they’d need it. Because it has all the features

Depends if you buy for shooting photos or shooting video.

For photos, 128GB is plenty.

For lots of video, 256 is totally inadequate.

🤷‍♂️
