You don't understand. You get everything you just explained in the base 128GB model. The Apple "exclusives" and ecosystem. Upping the storage is just more storage. SSD storage is not exclusive to Apple, right? So the act of adding more of what is already there in the base price for way more than market value is price gouging. Especially for the reasons you listed -- you can only get the experience (but not the storage) from Apple.
Honest question, why do you need two flagship new iPhones? One as a backup? So one will sit in your drawer unused unless your new Max breaks?
Actually both phones are on Verizon prepaid. I pay a total of 70$ a month. They both get 16gb of data a piece. The primary has family and official business the other is there when the primary is on charger; it also acts as a side hustle, more anonymous, burner phone type of phone. I like using a different form factor. I also use it for testing The betas

edit: I don’t know how I got two separate quotes in there.

‘Burner phone’ makes you sound like Jason Borne 🤣😂 but thanks for the explanation. Makes sense for beta tests for sure.

Wait until next year when the iPhone 15 Pro Max gets renamed the iPhone 15 Ultra.

iPhone 15 pro will stay 6.1” and lose out on the periscope camera to the ultra.

2 lines will become 3.

Regardless, 128GB is disgusting.

I suspect you're a serious videographer and will greatly benefit by shooting in ProRes.

The good news is you have 14 days to return your phone without penalty. Or, if you haven't yet received your phone, simply cancel the order.

And then simply place an order with the additional required storage.

Will you do it?

Don’t call it Pro then. You can’t be a „little“ Pro. That’s a contradiction of the word in itself.

Is the smaller pro still a pro because it has a smaller screen and thus lacks feature parity with the top of the line pro? I think people focus too much on the idea that the Pro model is for Professionals; and not just a way to segment the lineup.

I don’t get these „but not everyone needs 256 GB of storage“ people. What if it is the same price though? I doubt people would be like „I demand a phone with less storage since I won’t be using half of it!“.

If the 256 was introduced at the 128 price, sure; but I suspect folks would complain about a $100 higher pric tage if there was no 128 model.

In German you would say „einen geschenkten Gaul, schaut man nicht ins Maul“

I'd say, "Mensch, ärgere Dich nicht."

Feeling better having read this and understood properly.

unfortunately reading the headlines, if you dont understand the terminology its easy to misunderstand and think the 128gb cant do 4k video.

and it can, just

  • 4K video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
I dont even know what ProRes is and I doubt I'll ever need to. I am not even convinced I need 4k video recording, but the fact that I might meant I was regretting ordering the 128gb.

I do intend to take tons of pictures with the phone and prob a decent amount of video, but thats what iCloud is for. I am moving from a 64gb XS, which on the one hand I do sometimes have to delete hardly used apps, on the other hand its still full of other hardly used apps, so for me 128gb is tons of space. The XS replaced an 8gb iPhone 6.

There are plenty of customers who don’t care about ProRes video. For them the baseline 128gb model will suffice. No big deal. It does suck when you don’t know about this and just ordered the baseline model. Luckily for them they can return it and buy the 256gb version. It’s really a first world problem imo.
So when someone already ordered a 128GB model without knowing ProRes is for 256GB and up (as apple didn’t say a word during this years keynote), they should cancel it and wait additional 1-2 months for the new charge? Here in Switzerland the new charge is estimated at 13-20 Oct.

Imho that’s not fair. Don’t call it a Pro then

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but my gripe is that this is the pro model and not all features are available across all pro models. I ordered the phone expecting the only difference to be storage size.

For those who think Apple is morally corrupt

It started as ethically corrupt, you changed it to morally corrupt. The former is not quite the same as the latter but where Apple is concerned the former is true. It's ok to be wrong as often as you are.

We’ll that’s bs. Already ordered 2 128gb models.. likely won’t record at 4K but forcing 1080p is dumb.
Will just use the normal 4K recording option if needed.

I remember once shooting in regular non ProRes 4K a 15 minute video and it took ages to transfer via AirDrop.

imagine the nightmare that people without AirDrop have transferring via lightning

iPhones need USB-C asap

This is likely also a data rate thing. Two 128 chips would read/write double the speed.

I always get the lowest storage available as all my stuff is in the cloud. I don’t use up the 64GB on my iPad and it has all the same stuff my phone has.

Does ap4ktv include Airdrop, if not maybe it's Air m.2 or mcbpro time.

Is it too much to ask for people to do a "touch" of research before purchasing something?
Just a little bit, not asking for weeks and weeks of checking with all the reviewers out there or reading endless documentation on every single aspect of the product. But like, 5 minutes on the Apple site. Like they don't exactly release the product same day. You have what a day or 2 to pull the trigger. Just take it upon yourself to go and look for 5 whole minutes. To make sure there are no gotchas or issues that could potentially cause you to not be as happy with the product as you could be. And make a reasonably educated decision on the purchase.

I got the Gold 256GB Pro and my wife is getting the 128GB Purple Pro.
She is not going to do anything "Pro" with this device. No ProRAW anything. But, it's not going down where she doesn't get a proper Purple iPhone Pro. So the 128GB option keeps the price reasonable and she gets the "look" and all the functions she will use. I don't need 512GB or more of storage. Not running a production off of my phone or anything other than heavy app use, and lots of photos and videos I will be taking.

There are lots of people out there that will not use 4k 24/30 to record their daily lives. But "want" a Pro iPhone.
Let them have it if they want it. And if they need more. It's almost a given they wouldn't by the 128GB device anyway.
