It's apparent you are a big fan of choice so I'm not going to bother arguing.

No, not a "big fan" of choice, but I do recognise that choice is an facet of freedom.I'm guessing you are not a big fan of freedom.

I am merely interested and surprised that you're happy to express thoughts otherwise associated with totalitarian regimes. It almost sounds like you'd prefer a state monopoly - which makes one device, and in which citizens have all choice taken from them?

Perhaps you think there is also "too much choice" in a society which has multiple news outlets representing & discussing a range of political views?

There are also immediate disadvantages for customers, such as is harder decision making and possibly more money spent.

Yeah, and vegetable markets should also be abolished? They only offer "disadvantages for customers" - "harder decision making and possibly more money spent" when comparing price and quality of carrots, right?

Why can't they just sell me the subcompact with the payload and towing capacity of the truck?

With a SuperDrive and and 3,5 mm jack right? ;)

The dual lens pill looks pathetic, which is sad because the camera itself probably will be amazing. One lens looks decent. I like the slight revisions better than iPhone 6/6s, mainly because the antenna lines are partly fixed. But wow the dual lens pill is ridiculous, it does not look fancy like Apple is renowned for.
There was another leak published on this forum a few weeks ago that showed a picture of the dual lens setup ringed by a beautiful silver bezel or ring. It looked very elegant and polished. If Apple releases that version it's going to be beautiful. I think these were very early stage prototypes. The metallic finishes look dull, the switches are loosely set and the writing and Apple logo appear printed on.

It will likely be the single lens versions where Apple lets us down aesthetically. I have not seen a single leak so far where the single oversized lens does not look like a crater. It's not very nice looking. At all. Let us hope what it loses in looks, it makes up for in functionality.

On the positive side, even though I am getting a Note 7, I can still say that the iPhones have a quality feel to them that is still unmatched. I was at the AT&T store just a few hours ago redoing our Note 7 orders so we could get free Samsung Gear 2 watches and as much as I'm drooling over the Note 7, with my eyes closed the feel of the workmanship of the iPhone is a step above. I know we have lots of posts about flaws and IPhone returns but as someone who used to handle high volumes of cash and could pick out the highest quality of counterfeit bills just by touch alone, I am happy to say it is still hard for the competitors to touch the IPhone. It's now a plain Jane in looks compared to Android flagships, but in the hand you feel where Apple stands above the competition.

So I will withhold any truly scathing criticisms until I feel the new IPhones in my hands.

History repeats its self... Same thing happened in the mid 90's.

I believe its the result of no razor sharp vision at the top. The committees are making the decisions now, mostly to wring the last cent out of the products.

Companies must be dictatorships, not democracies.
That presumes the guy at the top is some enlightened ruler who knows what's best for his people. How many Steve Jobs do you know in this world?

Tim Cook is no product visionary, and he is clearly not going to pretend to be someone he is not. This, at least, we can be thankful for. The next best thing he can do is hire talented people and ensure they have the resources to do what they need to do. On our part, we will continue to cross our fingers, hope for the best and continue to vote with our wallets.

The pill shape being “pathetic” may have been too harsh of words, but really the pill shape turns me off. It does not look natural, it just bothers me. I hope the final versions all look great.

Lol, it does look like Bender's eyes from Futurama. But I've looked at a lot of Android smart phones recently. Both single and dual camera versions. Apple's really is a very sensible and least conspicuous iteration of the dual camera concept. Once you look around they all start looking really awkward. I've seen much, much worse. Oddly enough some of the cheap Chinese knockoffs look better visually. But for me the whole experience of an iPhone encompasses the quality feel, the reliable function as well as the appearance. Apple is still leading the pack in terms of the total package. But the wolves are at the door. Samsung is poised to kick serious tail. Next year will be the real smackdown and Apple had better break some new ground.

Why was the fact that it's 4K part of the title of the "story"? How about another piece of arbitrary, useless information, like the type of tripod they think was used, or the framerate... or the colour of the socks of the girlfriend of the bloke shooting it... -_-

They had better come out with different colors next month.

I still don't understand why they can't match the color of the antenna band to the color of the phone.

Triggered.

Honestly, if they just introduce a set of new colours (iPod nano style) for this, it'll shift bucket loads. Hell, if they just made a black and gold version to match the retina macbook, it'll sell out in seconds.

I'm not saying I approve of this superficial selling tactic, but it will work.

The ring/silent switch looks great...... super legit.....

Anyway, this is probably what the body will look like unfortunately.

That pregnant camera is ugly as ****.

You may feel slight aversion to new designs in the beginning, but you should know this by now—that'll all get ironed out in the coming months. And you'll wonder how you ever thought such a thing.

The pro will probably start at $900, plus tax. about $1000 for an iPhone, or any phone for the matter, is crazy. Don't forget Apple $$ Care on top of that, yikes.

My iPhone 6S Plus 64GB has a retail price of $849

But I didn't pay $849 at the time of purchase.

Many carriers, mine included, offer a payment plan.

My iPhone is $35/month... the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 will be $36/month... Galaxy S7 Edge is $33/month... etc.

I hear ya... smartphones have a ridiculous retail price. It's crazy that you can buy a laptop for what some of these phones cost.

But you don't have to pay that retail price all at once.

Remember the old days of contracts and subsidies? It was the same idea. You didn't have to pay the full price all at once then either. Just a $199 down-payment and then the rest of the phone's price was tucked in your bill every month.

Long ago the carriers figured out how to get people to buy expensive phones without having them pay a huge lump sum all at once. And they still do it today.

iPhones (and other premium smartphones) have always been expensive. But their high retail price wasn't an issue then... and it shouldn't be an issue now.

If your carrier offers a payment plan... take them up on the offer.

Apple can surely afford better designers. Still boring design with spray on finish, ugly c-section lines, huge unnecessary bezels and off centered camera that makes it wobble on a flat surface.

I haven't loved an iPhone design since the 4. The best iPhone on the market right now is the SE.

That camera protrusion has been fugly since it first arrived with the 6 and will continue to be ugly until it's flush.

I'd love it if the phone was 1mm thicker just so the camera would be flush, it's just nonsense from a design perspective for it to stick out like that. Continuing to make a phone thinner is meaningless if the camera has to stick out like that.

I hear you - that is exactly the way I am going - I am sticking to iPad for the stuff I purchased on the app store - but moving to an all black Samsung Note 7 - in 2017 Apple will release an iPhone that wont be close to what the Note 7 is today - I still have my iMac (Core i7), 4 iPads, 2 iPhones, etc. but will scale down on Apple for future purchases.

... might come back in the future but it would require a drastic change.
Yup, I agree. This year's yet to be announced Nexus phone for me.

Getting a little old now with the constant news posts of blatantly fake iPhones.
Not sure where you're going with this whole "fake" angle, but I do like your spirit. Unfortunately IMO, we've seen too many consistent rumors and leaks so far to think anything but at this point. These phones will most likely represent the 2016 iPhone lineup during the September keynote. And from what I see, it appears to be yet another spec-bumped iPhone series, again. Think iPhone 6SS and 6SS+, but just under a iPhone 7 moniker. (And who knows what that third version will be--probably a "Pro" model with a $1k price point. Lol.)
[doublepost=1470546719][/doublepost]
So there's going to be 3 different versions of the iPhone now. I wonder how much they are going to charge for the iPhone 7 pro. It'll probably be the same price as a MacBook.
I'm guessing about $1k unlocked.

What do you mean they shouldn't be mockups/dummies? They are.

Sorry, I meant "their shouldn't be dummies 4 weeks before release, in this short time til release we have mostly seen pics from the real new iPhone and no dummies in the last years" that's why I think it's absolutely fake, also I believe that Apple don't release 2 Plus models. We will see next month.

i'm sure it will look ok, apple won't release something that looks as bad as it has in the leaks. Will see though. I'm excited to see how good the camera will be if i'm honest.

So how much are you going to pay in total for that ridiculously expensive $849 phone? $35 x 12 + $199?

Okay yeah I hate the color choices of the past few years and the possible blue is not exception.
And yeah I am still extremely mad about the deletion of the headphone jack.
But really most of all, I am very surprised that we have yet to see what is replacing the headphone jack?
Is it a new wireless earphone set? A lightning earphone? Lasers that beam the music into my eyes?
Or has apple decided that nobody needs to use heaphones for private listening (or conversations).
I'm at this stupid crossroads.
Do I go buy a current model iPhone while it still had a headphone jack.
Or do I jump ship to a Samsung.
I'm not buying a castrated iphone 7.

I think a lot of consumers are in your position. What lies in place of the proposed 3.5 Jack? As of now, it's a reported second stereo speaker. But you and many others are questioning the transition to the Note 7. It's a difficult decision for some to switch and easy for others to leave.

For me, I have already accepted the 3.5 Jack will be deleted. I plan on staying with Apple and will order the iPhone 7 on day one. Apple's ecosystem and product line has me tied down. Either way, if customers do switch, do they come to the understanding most Other competitors may follow in Apple's foot steps, like the Motorola Z.

For now, it's hard to accept the change, years from now in return, maybe we will all understand and look back, understand why the change was implemented.
