The main differentiators between the models are size, colour and storage. People make a choice. With lots of people not buying their first smartphone, having already had one, they will have had some experience with storage size and usage, no?

exactly.

about 75% of iPhone 6s buyers will be upgrading from a smartphone. That means they know about storage limitations. This isn't like 2007-2010 when so many people were buying their first smartphone and had no idea how much GB they needed.

75% of iPhone users getting a 6S know about storage limitations? No. 75% of users getting the 16 gb 6S are getting it bc it's the cheapest.

My mom has an iPhone and I'm pretty sure she would have no clue which one to choose, if in race for a new phone. I'm sure a lot non-IT adept people using their iPhone just casually are similar.

I think you underestimate human ignorance.

Correct. Apple has had repeated lawsuits because people were mad their xGB phone did not come with xGB free. They don't even understand that the OS would take up some of that disk space.

People don't understand, they just want an iphone, and they assume Apple's base model would at least give them the ability to use the phone's features relatively comfortably.

The 16GB model isn't premium is basic.
only on a smartphone forum would we make the argument that storage size is what dictates a premium versus a basic product. The specs are exactly identical minus storage space. The only reason we call 64 and 128gb premium is because Apple (and some other manufacturers) have fed us that BS.

The reality is, if you're buying a new iPhone, it's a premium product regardless of storage capacity.

everything is relative

That doesn't make sense. If someone was having problems with storage with an iPhone5S or 6 with 16GB would they not know to upgrade to 64GB? If they can't figure that out then they deserve their fate.

And it isn't like the end of the world. They can simply upload their photo/video to their home computer to free up space.

So you imply everybody actually knows how much storage their current phone has! That's already something you can't be sure of!

The problem I see is that Apple aren't catering to everyone with the 16gb.

The fact that hundreds of people on this forum, videos on YouTube etc highlight the fact that these days 16gb isn't enough just goes to show that the base storage should be more. If it was acceptable nobody would be complaining.

You keep beating that drum. The normally pro-Apple press is reaming them for this choice. And they deserve it. At least this all makes sure we'll see a higher base model in the future.

easy to check when they trade in their phone. Most people buy phones at stores. You can bet your azz that the person helping them will ask them what size phone they had before and try to convince them to get a bigger phone.

hundreds of people on this forum, you tube, media does not equal the mainstream public.

This place, You tube and the tech media is full of tech nerds. Most normal people don't need more than 16GB phones. And if they run out of space the Apple genius will tell them to upload their photo/video to their home computer, and BAM, lot of room again.

Remember most normal people don't buy 2GB games, have 2000 song collections on their phone, or have any need to have 5000 photos on their phone.

Pro-Apple press? LOLOLLLOLLOLOLL! Apple bashing tech press is an industry in itself. When Apple starts listening to the tech media it will be time for me to stop buying Apple products.

This is the same press that said in 2013 that Samsung was going to over take Apple. How did that turn out?

Well "assuming"!is what caused their issue, not Apple.

No phone or computer hard drive has ever had (nor will it have) the full capacity advertised on the box.

It's fine for people not to know &/or understand it, but it's not Apple or Western Digital's or Seagates or Samsung's fault.

A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine.

Fail to plan, plan to fail.

Apple are the biggest tech company on the planet and if you think you know better than the undoubted almost endless resources that Apple have thrown at iPhone research, then you are simply deluded &/or mistaken.

I have a 16gb 5S. I have over 1,000 photos on it currently. Never had to delete or move anything at all. :p I've preordered the 16gb 6S, I think I'll be fine. ;):p

I remember the old days circa 2007 when we all had to actually sync content to our computers. Dark days, indeed. :D

The same tech media that will soon be unemployed because their ponzi scheme of ads will finally come to an end?

So Apple is going to take their advice? LOL.

Ted: Yo I'm getting the new iPhone

Phil: What size are you getting?

Ted: I got the 16GB last time. But I kept running out of space. What a pain.

Phil: What size are you getting?

Ted: Probably the 16GB

While I commend you for your success, in going to guess you won't be able to store 1000 photos on your new device. The raw photo file size should be much larger than that of the 5s, and this is even before live photos (assuming you don't just turn them off). Ether way, in sure you'll make ironwork. :)

You are missing the point entirely. I am stating they know exactly what they are doing.
