It's fine for people not to know &/or understand it, but it's not Apple or Western Digital's or Seagates or Samsung's fault.

I would argue that this is part of good customer service. There was a time when Applenwould tell you, approximately, what sorts of things and how many of those things you could store on your device.

And to be clear, in not implying Apple's CS isn't good. It's the best in the industry I would say. In my opinion, this is where it could improve, immensely. But again, that's just the opinion of one man

Go out and work some overtime in your job.

If you'd done that instead of arguing and moaning about 16GB you could have earned yourself enough money to upgrade to the 64GB version.

hundreds of people on this forum, you tube, media does not equal the mainstream public.

This place, You tube and the tech media is full of tech nerds. Most normal people don't need more than 16GB phones. And if they run out of space the Apple genius will tell them to upload their photo/video to their home computer, and BAM, lot of room again.

Remember most normal people don't buy 2GB games, have 2000 song collections on their phone, or have any need to have 5000 photos on their phone.

Interested in where your source is for the above?

youre also suggesting most normal people don't take a lot of pictures?

Why haven't Apple catered for the 'tech nerds' with their base model?

I literally believe that you think the general public are stupid.

I have a 16gb 5S. I have over 1,000 photos on it currently. Never had to delete or move anything at all. :p I've preordered the 16gb 6S, I think I'll be fine. ;):p

Sorry you don't qualify as apparently if you are on this site you are a hardcore techie!

Ok great....the fun just keeps coming with you.

But its 100% TRUTH.

Should Apple take business advice from a bunch of companies that have a business plan of running an ad Ponzi scheme to keep the lights on? Should Apple take advice from companies that profit from stealing users data and raping their privacy?

No. I think the general public is not stupid.

They don't have the same usage needs as the tech nerds here. Most don't need 16GB.

Oh you didn't just go there...... really?? So Apple can steal our data and "rape your privacy" and you still kiss their feet? Hypocrite much?

You have quite a selective memory. Sites that typically praise Apple are calling them out....big time.

http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-please-kill-the-16gb-iphone/

Yet all of these people are just flat wrong and out to get Apple huh?

Same genius site that had this article:
The iPhone 6 won't wow: 6 reasons why
http://www.cnet.com/news/the-iphone-6-wont-wow-6-reasons-why/

These sites don't know jack. They just regurgitate the same Meme's that get clicks. And this year the meme is 16GB phones are the devil.

I literally believe that you think the general public are stupid.

1 - Tech nerds aren't going to get the base model. Period.

2 - The general public is not that bright. I work with them on a daily basis. They have no clue what their phone does beyond the basic of basic things. Examples, they get the iCloud pop up saying they are out of space but don't know what it means. They turn on DND or rotation lock and have no idea how to turn it off. They have over 60 Safari tabs open. They don't update their iOS or Apps. They run out of space and they don't know why their phone keeps closing apps on them or runs super slow.

You can deny it all you want but the "general public" for the most part, are dumb as nails. Not because they want to be but because technology is greek to them.

What data does Apple steal and sell off?

Apple has the best privacy policy in the tech biz.

Those websites you posted make 90% of their profits from selling your personal information and web history.

I will say it again. If the base storage was acceptable then there wouldn't be any complaints.

Apple aren't catering for everyone with all model types when other companies are.

Other companies are catering because they are DESPERATE.

There will always be complaints by cheapskates.

If Apple started the line at 32GB then Samsung would probably start at 64GB and the tech media would still say Apple is cheap. Apple will not play that game. They will not do a race to the bottom like all those Android companies.

Even if Apple started at 128GB they would still complain and say the iPhone should not be $650 but $400 like Android phones.

Lets face it. Some people can't have nice things.

While I commend you for your success, in going to guess you won't be able to store 1000 photos on your new device. The raw photo file size should be much larger than that of the 5s, and this is even before live photos (assuming you don't just turn them off). Ether way, in sure you'll make ironwork. :)

Meh. If I take/save lots of pictures and fill up the memory then I'll just put it on my MBA and then onto my external hard drive. I'm going to New York next Wednesday, I might treat myself to one live photo whilst I'm there :p

Apple does not care about the $99 phones Samsung sells. Fact is Apple is outselling Samsung in the high end by a very large margin. Apple has 92% of smartphone profits, so yes they are destroying Samsung.

If you think units sold is all that matters you know anything about the industry. Samsung's profits are down 70% from its peak while Apple's is up 40% this year. So you tell me who's winning.

Define a tech nerd then.

Tell me things a tech nerd would do differently on their phone compared to a casual user that would require so much more storage space. Do not include apps, photos or music though because casual users would definitely install large apps (FIFA 15 for example which is over a Gb), photos because many casual users take hundreds of photos. Music partly because Apple are marketing Apple Music (each song has a higher bitrate). When I first bought an iPhone I wouldn't have considered myself a tech nerd however I had a large iTunes library which I synced to my phone.

The people I believe you are referring to in terms of these casual or general public populations are literally children or mums.

People aren't as tech illiterate these days.

You just described my mom. I'm in agreement with you, but let's be careful what we imply about intelligence. Being iPhone illiterate doesn't mean someone "isn't bright". There is absolutely a generational gap. All that said, I am frustrated almost daily, but certainly weekly, by the "there is a moon at the top of my screen and I can't hear when I get calls", or some similar complaint lol.

Apparently I'm a tech nerd and I have the 16gb. According to some people, being on this forum means I am a tech nerd.

I have the 16gb.

Which is it people?

Would love a poll on here to see just how many of us tech nerds have the 16gb.

Also thanks for just confirming to us all that the general public DO run out of space on their 16gb phones :).

This is avert large portion of the population. Have you seen how packed Apple's classes are? They're always full around here, and not a single 20-40 year old in site (aside from the instructors).

We were just there. Had a lot of fun. The Apple Store wasn't as awe inspiring as I expected, though the 9/11 memorial was breathtaking.

Enjoy!

I am not saying that man. I am just saying you LOLOLOLOLOLOLLLLLOLOLL at the press predictions when clearly they were correct. You are cherry picking and its obvious what you do. But doesn't make the prediction wrong. Samsung is the largest smartphone maker in the world. They have overtaken apple (at least for now).

There will always be exceptions to every rule, not that this is even a rule to begin with. I think the majority of enthusiasts are likely to have a larger than 16gb phone.

I agree but I wouldn't say it's larger than all the other portions of the population put together.

All I'm saying is that 16gb for some casual users these days isn't enough. That is my ultimate point in all this.
