one of the first reviews I read and look what he wrote

  • Live Photos are about twice the size of a typical 12 megapixel photo, so I can store fewer of them on my phone. But I’m not buying the 16 GB iPhone, nor do I see why anyone would. The only thing a 16 GB iPhone is good for is Apple’s margins and making people wish they’d spent the extra money on a 64 GB iPhone.

I just looked up an article by Wired, it shows you how to easily live with the 16GB model. Im not into it enough to know how you keep everything off you phone and in the cloud but they say its possible and easy enough to do.
50GB of storage on the cloud was only $24 for two years vs the extra $100 to get the 64GB model

This.

I have always had the base model. Using a combination of OneDrive, Dropbox and GoogleDrive I have a total of 51 GB of cloud storage for *free*. And it's storage that is always in sync with my PC so my stuff automatically resides in 3 places.

That's not even counting the free 5GB of iCloud, which I only use passively for backing up the stuff that must stay on my phone (apps, settings, browsing history, etc).

I really have no incentive to pay Apple $100 for an additional 48 GB of storage that I will have to either manually back up or pay even more money to fit into iCloud. No thanks.

Obviously, I won't be shooting any short films in 4K, but I can capture a few minutes or so and immediately move it to one of my cloud solutions. Apples native storage just isn't a good value in my book.

Not if you have spent a lot of money in Apple 's ecosystem...

It is in most of the cases.
And it is enough for people working with the phone even without shooting photos or videos....
16 Gb aren't ....

Who cares about margins?
We are users, not shareholders.
Apple has plenty of margins on this devices...

Yes, but if you OCCASIONALLY take shoots and videos, you could be in trouble with only 16 Gb (supposing to have 4-5 Gb free) but you would be ok with a 32 Gb model ...

Seriously dude, I can't understand how can you defend Apple on this.
And I'm a big Apple supporter.

You should care about Apple's margins.

If Apple's margins shrink, then Apple's profits will shrink. If those shrink the stock price will tank. You do know that 99% of the top employees at Apple get most of their compensation with stock options? In other words if the stock tanks the top employees will get huge pay cuts. They will become targets for other companies to poach.

Also Apple's high margins allow them to invest heavily in R&D, retail stores, top talent, and acquisitions. Without high margins Apple would have to take short cuts and innovation and quality would suffer.

So its pretty simple really. Do you think the extra $50-$100 to get the best is worth it? IMO, it is. Like in any industry you need to pay more to get the best. Why are Apple fans so against paying a little more for the King of smartphones?

Thats a review from a tech site. Of course someone in that industry will say 16GB is way too little.

You people need to realize your use cases are DIFFERENT from many mainstream consumers. For many people 16GB is perfectly fine. Stop being so narrow minded and realize not all people use their phones the same way.

Absolutely agree. Boggles my mind how they still offer it.

I have a 64GB 6 Plus, and i'll probably buy the 128GB 6s Plus, just to have the extra storage if I ever need it.

Boggles my mind how people can't realize that the ENTIRE WORLD does not use an iPhone the same way you do. Tens of millions of users are perfectly fine with 16GB.

You'd be surprised at how many people DON'T download apps or take video or many photos. Especially the older crowd, particularly women.

Are you willing to pay MORE for the BEST?

Are you or are you not? If you want the best you will need to pay more. That is a FACT of life. So compare prices of the top end phones:

iPhone 6s 64GB - $750
Samsung S6 32GB - $650
Samsung S6 Edge 32GB - $750
HTC One M9 32GB - $650
LG G4 32GB - $650

So basically you will have to pay about $100 more to get an iPhone 6s vs the top end Android phones. Is that worth it?

You get 32GB more memory.
Better ecosystem.
Better OS that gets frequent updates.
Better build quality (in general)
Better resale value (iPhones sell for $100-$150 more than Android phones of the same age)

The resale value and 32GB extra storage alone should be enough to pick the iPhone over the competition.

I would not call Buzzfeed a tech site. They don't post phone reviews, ever. This was the first one I've seen for years lol.

Buzzfeed may not be a hardcore tech site but the author certainly is:

John Paczkowski is the managing editor for BuzzFeed San Francisco. Formerly deputy managing editor for Re/code and AllThingsD, he's been covering the intersection of technology and culture since 1997.

Most iPhone users are not dead broke. iCloud offers a very reasonable 50gb of cloud storage for .99 cents per month.
If someone buys a 16gb phone and later decides they want to shoot some 4K video, there is a storage solution but I'm thinking someone that buys one is a lot like my mother in law and barely uses any data at all. Her iPhone has over 6gb of space and doesn't need any more.

Your argument is biased, with the assumption that the apple product is superior .

Let's assume people have chosen thier ecosystem, and are not on the fence, as you are.

Android entry for a premium handset is 32gb apple is 16GB, does it matter ?

Frankly many here care less about what android offers, 16Gb in our ecosystem sucks.

If apple product was $300 more, people would buy it...

You either have an excellent data plan, or travel along wifi hotspots to take advantage of iCloud . One simple holiday would undo the benefit of iCloud ... Especially international

I don't understand why people leave THOUSANDS of photos on their phone. That really is the main culprit for running out of space for mainstream consumers.

Lets say a person has 5,000 photos and does not buy additional iCloud storage. What happens if their phone crashes? What happens if they lose their phone? Then they lose 5,000 photo's FOREVER! That is madness.

So IMO everyone should either backup all their photo's with iCloud or back up to a computer. Not doing so is taking a huge risk of losing all your photo's FOREVER. So even having a 32GB phone will not preclude you from backing up your photo's.

So if someone buys a 16GB phone all they have to do is either: buy an additional 50GB of iCloud for 99 cents, or backup their photo's to their computer. With so many sources of cheap or free cloud services there is no excuse for not backing up your photo's. Thus making the 16GB a reasonable size phone for many mainstream purchases.

I mean seriously, how often do you need to have 5,000 photo's on your device AT ALL TIMES? That's what the cloud is for.

The Apple product is superior.

That's like saying BMW cars are superior to Kia cars is biased. It isn't. Its a fact. But of course I'm sure there is a minority of people who truly believe the Kia is the superior car. But that does not change the general public sentiment of those two brands. The same thing with iPhone. The general sentiment is the iPhone is the best phone you can buy. Thats why the average iPhone cost $660 while the average Android phone cost $200.

If you don't believe the iPhone is the superior product then I can see why the 16GB phone bothers you. But in that case even a 32GB iPhone for $650 should bother you because there are high quality Android phones that cost $400.

I don't know why its so hard to understand that superior product cost more than an inferior product.

This is like someone going to a steak house and is surprised that the Prime Ribeye steak cost more than grilled chicken. I mean get real.

Some people do not trust cloud services. Last thing you want to be doing is very regular upstates to a computer.

No, disagree. Something cannot be superior to an individual If the device and OS are not suitable.

Apple is superior to YOU

Your car analogys never work. Apple computers are just PCs, it's the OS that divides people. For someone that does not like iOS, the iPhone is a Kia ...

Now apple customer service : superior

I never understood this. Why do people take THOUSANDS of pictures on a vacation? Its really silly. Its like you are living through your phone.

When I go on vacation I take maybe a few dozen pictures. Thats it. I'd rather be live in the moment instead of trying to constantly capture photographs. For example when I went to Paris I took about 5 pictures of the eiffel tower. While other were litterally taking HUNDREDS of photos. Why? What a waste. Go on the internet and you can find THOUSANDS of professional photos of the Eiffel tower that will blow away any photo you can take from an iPhone.

Regardless if someone wants to take a ton of pictures they can backup their entire photos/video's on iCloud BEFORE they go on vacation. Then they will have 10GB of space which should be enough. If that's not enough then they should bring their laptop and upload their photos each night.

If you don't think the iPhone is superior to Android phones then buy an Android phone.

There is no reason to pay a premium price for the iPhone if thats the case. End of story.

You are also totally ignoring RESALE value which is a FACT not an opinion. Just as BMW has much higher resale value than Kia's, iPhones have much higher resale value than top end Android phones.

So are you saying people should never backup their photos from their phone?

And risk losing EVERYTHING forever if the phone crashes or gets lost?

Ideally you back up your photo's to your home computer which automatically backs up to your cloud. Do this every 6 months. Doing less than this is risking losing EVERYTHING.

Not everyone will be shooting 4K videos or snapping live photos. Everyone is complaining as if they are being forced to buy a 16GB version.

So your solution is to bring a laptop on a vacation to justify a 16gB iPhone .... And yet u ordered a 64GB.

One reason people take so many pictures is cause apple is really really promoting it as an excellent device for video and photography! Did you miss all the ads? The marketing ? Apple is pushing it...

even a 32GB phone will not be enough if you are taking a ton of pictures and photos.

A lap top is required. In my previous vacation to Europe my wife took 90GB of photo's and videos
