Anyone think an upgrade in capacity is likely?

I say no except maybe a replacement of 8 gb with 16 gb. Isn't 64 gb enough for you guys? Or do you wish to have a million songs in your pocket of witch 99% you never listen at?

I have a 60GB classic, and I have to keep deleting videos in order to put new ones on. It's a hassle.

For some reason, I don't feel we'' get more than 1 camera...and I feel its the front facing one for Facetime.

I've got an iPad 3G so the new Touch has to complement that to be worth it to me.
One thing that I need to see if I'm going to buy one to replace my 1st gen Touch is GPS and with a real chip not just guessing. So far getting GPS means having a cellular capability too but I don't see why that has to be. However if it does come with GPS and 3G data then I can see using the microSIM from my iPad in it which would as I said work well together. That would be a killer feature.

The other stuff that we know is coming is very nice but it's not compelling to me. I need the GPS for location services and directions to places in a pocketable format. That's the deal maker/breaker for me as I do not have an iPhone.

I don't think we know for sure what is going to be on the new gen of iPod Touch until Apple makes the official announcement. We have come up with a consensus on a wish list, but that is really all it is.

Haven't you heard of movies? They tend to eat up lots of memory. Of course, Apple could just get rid of video playback and solve that problem. Heaven forbid they add additional memory or a microSd card slot.

They might add a microSD card slot to the 64GB so they can expand even more.

i'd agree that we'll see some form of a replica to the Iphone because why would they differentiate from the design now. I do think however that we'll see some form of connectivity to AT&T or Verizon like the IPad with 3G. If its with verizon I'd hope its on the new LTE. That would be a huge seller for Apple and verizon as I think people would flock to the device and use it simply for facetime and skype, maybe even some form of text messaging and get rid of their phones. Maybe if apple would approve google voice this could be utilized too. With download speeds of 5-12 mb/s, thats more than enough bandwidth to stream facetime over the air and to play games as well as stream netflix etc.

You may never listen to them. I do. I don't understand ppl who assume everyone acts as they do...

Okay, if we're gonna face the harsh reality of the Apple's bare minimum standard, here's what we'll get - a FaceTime camera to meet his 10 million devices mark, no back camera, DEFINITELY a redesign, if even a small one, MORE THAN LIKELY retina display and A4 (cause you need A4 to run the iOS4 correctly, for everyone out there saying we probably won't get it,) and quite possibly an update to iOS4.0.2, or 4.1. We can still expect retina display full on, but some of us have lost hope on the back camera, there's no way in HELL Apple would deliver two, let alone a 5MP like some of you say. Maybe a 3.2 or 2MP, just to make customers happy and WANT to upgrade.

Time for a camera!

Teeny tiny cameras for cell phones were available long before iPod touch was a dream in Apple's eye. A camera in the iPod is LONG overdue! I've been expecting one since the first generation, and have been astonished that they overlooked it with each upgrade. Even my piece-of-s cell phone 8 years ago had a camera WITH a flash!

Now myself personally, I'll never even use the camera... I carry around a 12x-zoom / 12MP camera in my purse because to me, if a picture is worth taking, it's worth taking in top quality. On the other hand, just about every teenager with an iPod also has a cell phone, and they're happy enough to just use that for pictures. So the only real reason for a camera would be front-facing for facetime chat. I'll be disappointed if it's only in the back.

Another thing that would be nice to see is 3G sim card capability, especially if it's optional like on the iPad. A lot of people say, then why not just get the iPhone? Well, initial price for one thing, and monthly service cost for another. You can get a 3G data plan for about $10-15 a month, whereas you can't get into an iPhone plan for under $40. Not to mention the extra $200-400 for the same storage capacity, if all you really want is the internet. If I could have gotten a 3G-network-ready iPod, I never would have upgraded my cell to a (piece of garbage) blackberry, when all I really wanted was my e-mail on the bus!

Bottom line: Apple needs more than a better processor & battery life in order to get the masses to upgrade their 3G to 4G. Only those with cash to burn will shell out $200-600 for an iPod that's only ever-so-slightly faster and lasts a couple hours longer. The rest of us will demand at least a camera and possibly Skype to make the upgrade worthwhile.

People need to get over the whole "OMG A4!" thing.

The processor in the iPod touch 3g and iPhone 3GS is exactly the same as the "A4" in the iPad, except for clock speed.

- 256 MB DDR ram
- Arm A8 Cortex
- SGX 535 Graphics

The processor in the touch 4G will probably be this "A4" everyone drools over, which is really the one from the touch 3G running at a higher clock speed and more ram as in the iPhone 4.

But enough with my processor rant.

We are 99% sure the ipod touch is getting a camera, as evidenced by the facetime configuration. It is probably going to only be a front facing one, because Apple is mean like that.

I can see a new form factor and probably a design reminiscent of the iPhone 4.

To go along with the camera, I see a microphone, and probably a better speaker. In addition, Apple will bring a gyroscope and possibly a compass.

What we won't get -- GPS, 3G

Again, if they want to enhance Facetime they will have a complete version of Facetime on the touch, which means both cameras.

i cna pretty much tell from a hunch i hae that we will get VGA front facing and 3.2 MP back facing cameras. 5 MP is not gonna happen till a couple years down the line when the ipod touch is redesigned again and 5mp sensors become smaller/ thinner so it can be implemented into the ipod touch.

Well, that would just open the gateway for jailbreakers to make each camera function like the iPhones - that is, using the front facing AND back facing as both still and video. I think we're just gonna get the front facing with vga@30fps and 3.2mp still photos. If anything, at least 1 camera. If there's no camera, then I'm pretty sure that Apple will lose about half or more of the people ready to upgrade, even with a re-design. The people want a camera!

There should be two cameras if they want to enhance facetime and get more customers.

What the new iPOD Touch Really Needs

The new iPOD touch needs the following:

Retina Display/Resolution but in a 4" or 4.3" screen (OH YEAH!!!)
Same design as the new Iphone 4.
Better battery Life
More Ram
A4 processor

If Steve can can deliver this, I will definitely buy one before he ends his speech (if you can do that).

There will not be a screen size increase.
No iPhone 4 design is likely, more likely is an iPad design.
Better battery life is possible.
More RAM is possible.
A4 is almost guaranteed.
