Here is what should be in the 4th Generation iPod touch, add to the list.

I want-
LED/ OR OLED Screen, more likely LED.
Aluminum Back for no scratch, and(same glass screen) finger print resistance screen.
60% brighter screen
Cheap just like now, Drop the 8 GB and make it 16GB because 8 GB is a rip-off at $199.
Still/ Video Camera, 3.2 mega pixel camera.
40+ battery.
Same fast processor/ graphics GPU.

These should be on the two high end versions of iPod touch of 32 GB and 64 GB or even 128 GB if available.

16GB $199
32GB $299
64GB $399

POSSIBLE 128 GB $429

I DON'T THINK THERE IS GOING TO BE A 128 GB :D

to apple101, there is already an LED backlit screen in the ipod touch. What you are thinking of is an OLED screen. isn't gonna happen. why would the ipod touch have a possibly better screen than the iphone? doesn't make any sense.

I dont think this will happen but since the Zune HD does it might.

not to be harsh but apple pretty much dominates this section of the market. OLED is not coming anytime soon. i remember steve saying that they weren't going to go oled just yet, till prices/maturity of tech is there. right now lcd is priced lower than oled even though the latter costs less to make. its just companies getting r&d money back.

I know they dominate this part of the market. I said it might, but it is not likely.

If there isn't then it will prove Apple is run by retards. 128 is the bare minimum acceptable in this day and age.

128 GB is the bare minimum? Really? Show me all those devices utilizing 2 64GB NAND modules.

If there is no 128 GB version it means Apple couldn't get 64 GB memory it needed in sufficient quantities, not that they are "retards."

Not to mention that Flash memory of that caliber is too damn costly.

Beside the iPod touch is probably used more as a gaming/surfing device rather than an actual Music/Movie Player. That's why the iPod Classic is still around with a massive amount of room to fill that need.

I was going to comment, but you two summed my thoughts up quite eloquently. Thought I'd comment anyways to reaffirm what you both said. (Bonus Question to Black Belt: Name one pocket-sized device with 128GB of flash memory?)

Edit: Never mind! Just found a few 128GB thumb-drives online, but the starting price? $300. No way they would fit that kind of memory into an iPod touch unless they charged $800 for the thing.

It doesnt make them retards. Those parts are expensive.

It doesn't make sense to have 128GB, most people I know own an 8GB and they are satisfied with it, I don't know anyone else who owns higher than an 8GB touch. Especially for $429, at that point its approaching the cost of the iPad. Personally I would want to get a 32GB and it would take me a very long time to fill it which is good, and I do agree that 8GB is too small especially with the bigger software updates leaving you only around 6GB of space.

I don't wanna make any wild guesses for the outcome of the iPod touch 4G. I'll just lean back and wait and I'm buying it no matter what. After I robbed the bank, of course

Exactly. The cost for 128GB of flash memory is just too high, and it would be too close to the iPad.

Sorry but there is almost no chance of a 3G.

Music

Okay let's NOT talk about:

- camera
- the looks (colors, the back, etc.)
- gyroscope (which is actually interesting)
- battery life
- chip
- memory

No, let's talk about MUSIC.

I want my iPod to wirelessly stream music to my bluetooth
speakers in my room.
I just simply want to exchange music via bluetooth with any device.
I want to listen to FM-radio.
I want my iPod to connect to any device (DLNA).
I want in-ear headphones with my iPod. No crappy ones.
Possibly wireless.

Okay and maybe a better screen. That's a must actually.

I don't care about a camera. I have one on my phone.
And if I really wanna make pictures I'll use my camera.
I don't care about how the thing looks, as long as it's good.

One more thing: about internet.
I hope it'll feature a (micro)sim-card tray just like the iPad so that I can surf the internet with it anywhere.

That's my wishlist.

New iPod Touch 4G:

8GB - $199, 32GB - $279, $64GB - $379

32GB and 64GB features:
Front FaceTime VGA camera
3.2MP Rear Camera w/ Video Recording, autofocus, and flash
Same processor as iPod Touch 3G, possible Apple A4 on high end 64GB
256MB RAM
Wi-Fi b/g/n
3.5" Same Resolution Screen, possible Retina on high end 64GB
Gyroscope
Bluetooth 2.1
iPhone OS 4.1
Redesigned - Possible aluminum enclosure, or similar to iPhone 4, more squared off.

8GB features:
Front FaceTime camera
Same Processor as iPod Touch 3G
256MB RAM
Gyroscope
Wi-Fi b/g
No redesign
Bluetooth 2.1
iPhone OS 4.1

I hope the 32GB drops in price. Still think the 8GB is a little overpriced at $199. Come on Apple, price drops, PLEASE!

The front facing camera on the iPhone 4 is not 5MP. The rear, however, is.

From Apple's website:

I think he meant, when you use Facetime, you can use the back camera as well as the front. He didn't imply that the front one was 5 MP.

I thought you needed to be making a phone call (hence the 3G) in order to connect to FaceTime using Wifi?

You can apparently use FaceTime directly from your Contacts.

If Apple is bringing FaceTime to the iPod touch, then it will probably use email addresses to use FaceTime, but, I can also see it calling from your iTunes account and it finally will have a reason for contacts on the iPod touch to be. I think FaceTime for the touch would be a smart decision for the new touch and they only cost $1.00 to add in.

As others said, you don't need to. Also, some people found references to the ability to register your e-mail address to facetime, as an alternative to a phone number, for devices that aren't iPhones.
