I pod touch is massively underused and i can't understand why they haven't done two things. sell it at best buy as a gps device and with the cameras as a camera.
Why can't they install an optical lense on this thing and sell it as a camera? or even no optical lens. Maybe they will with the photo editing software and 5mp camera.
let get Google on this and tom tom and make this a great gps device please!
I want this to become like the ipad and get a data card slot so i can use this thing as a skype phone or maybe some kind of software to allow a fixed #. apple is rumered to be pushing cloud stuff.
If it is only wifi it will be a solid back. if they allow 3g/4g (multiple carriers since it isn't an iphone) a line down the middle of the back. the back becomes the antenna since adding sides would make it thicker.

*:apple: i want flash! i need my mobile porn*

well crap. i guess my skype phone will never be. no speaker but a camera in its place

engadget has an article on rumors of a new Touch. It is looking like it has a front facing camera and Facetime but the same size as the iPhone4.
It probably has the new a4 and the retina display but the same size as the iPhone4 just WIFI only.

Sorry, it's not going to make me leave my iPad. A size increase might have done that. Once you go larger screen you won't go back. What I've heard so far gets a pass from me. The touch needs a MAJOR model change not a rehash of what's already out there.

I would be fine with the iPhone size, i think i might prefer it.

Can you post a link, i cant find it.

it will have gyroscope and wireless N fore sure

I very much doubt they will make it the same size as the iphone 4 because that would mean a significant fatness increase from 6.5mm to 9.2mm

the retina display will be included in it because the ipod touch is the direct competitor to the psp/ds therefore apple has to make sure it can run all the apps (esp games) therefore they have to include both the retina display and the gyroscope (as both are/ are going to be used heavily in games.

a front facing camera for facetime will happen if apple want to push this, and you all assume the the camera will be 5MP but I think it will be 3.2MP as the camera thickness is significantly slimmer and they can therefore fit both in a slim case, (they even only use the ipod nano camera as they could fit both directly together cause they are 2mm thick)

now where's my cheque for being one of those analysts that only spew drop dead obvious stuff

What about a FM Radio like in the iPod nano? Is there anything known about that?

Keep it Simple

Apple likes to maintain an image of product simplicity- In asthetic design and mechanics. Adding too many things could make it too complex, drive up the price, and reduce reliability. I'm all for having the latest and greatest. And I definitely think that Apple needs to stay competitive instead of just riding on their popularity. I also know how people see value in tons of crazy features and would buy something else just because it doesn't have a camera or whatever. It's as if the features list determins its value, not the quality of the product. To me, that's not practical but not everyone sees it that way. But do we REALLY need all these things?? I have a 3rd gen 64gb and I love it. Why fix it if it aint broken?

Personally, a camera has little or no place being in an Ipod. A phone, sure why not. That's why I have my cell phone. Unless it's a super amazing HD video/camera with great picture editing software included, I doubt I'd use the Ipod camera at all. Maybe they can have two different models. One with a camera/editing software and one with increased graphics via a graphics card of some kind instead of the camera. Maybe that would be too difficult to market...

I'd rather have the latest in screen technology. The Retina display seems pretty awesome. I'm glad to see it's a good possibility that the 4th gen will get it. I want video playback and gaming to be flawless. I want audio, bluetooth, and processor speed to all be top of the line. I'd like to see more utilities and better multitasking. I want gaming to be mind blowing. All in a reliable, simple to use device. To me, this is what an Ipod touch is. Not a platform for a camera.

The only thing I might add is an FM receiver and transmitter. I think this really goes with the nature of the device and has been missing for years. Why does the nano get such a thing but not the Touch? Makes no sense.

Hard drive space is fine. My 64 gig is plenty. I think my next one will be 32 gig. Something like 80-90 gigs might be a nice option for those who like movies and need tons of space. But... I know there are people out there that would buy a gigantic 128 gig. If they made such a thing, I'm sure they would sell just fine. Necessary? Not really.

It's about freaking time we got some real flash support for web surfing. I really hate not being able to use the internet to its full potential. I use the touch for mobile internet practically everyday. I want my Ipod touch to surf the web as close as possible to how my computer surfs the web.

Battery life is ok. But it could definitely be better. Exterior design is fine. If they want to make it look like the Iphone4, I wouldn't complain. As long as it's durable and ergonomic, I don't care. The screen size could stand to be a little bigger but I'm not complaining. Pricing is fine. Are there better deals out there? Of course, but Apple is popular and therefore more expensive. I'd like to see them stay within 20 bucks of the current pricing, even with new features. I really highly doubt the price is going anywhere but up. The more you expect, the more it'll cost. Period.

all i want is,

retina
nice redesign
white color, but i doubt it
A4
maybe camera
and price drop for 32gb would be nice

I absolutely agree with everything you said.

the chips can only double in size so 64 as a max can only go to 128GB though I dont know if they will bother with a 128GB model this year 64GB chips are still very expensive.

There most likely is not going to be a 128GB model, and i would really appreciate FM radio, it would help to compete with Zune.

Does anyone know why Apple are not keen on pushing better sound quality to surpass or at least match Cowon and Iriver/Sony?

The day Apple's Ipod touch does that, I will immediately purchase one.

That was exactly my thoughts. It's too bad the Cowon J3 doesn't do WIFI or that would be my choice for sure.

Well, if apple were to match or surpass cowon , sony walkman and Iriver, it be a good thing.

I hate to consider sony, cowon, iriver because of their sound quality knowing their cannot offer games and apps in the same way as Apple. One step from total dominance.

For sure,if they were to match the SQ of those you mentioned, they would more than likely get 100% of the market for that size player

How many non-ipod touch have you had? Have you ever tried a sony walkman after 2006...?

it is all black and white when discussing sound quality.
Uhmmmmm.... 1,2,3... 4 i think. Ive had a RCA (dont remember), a Sansa Fuze (decent), and a 1st gen Zune (decent), 3 actually. Nope i havent. I thought you were talking about iPods in general. Now that i think about it... I really dont remember listening to music on an iPod Touch many times, maybe 3 or 4 and that wasnt very recent.
