Possible Reasoning

Let's Get Real

There will be no camera because a camera is a key feature of the iphone [besides calling with AT&T and 3g] and until Apple gets a key defining feature on the iphone that seperates it from the ipod touch it ain't gonna happen. [not saying impossible, even I wish it had a camera.]

Outside Specs

As people say, it will possibly come with OLED or LED screen........No way is the screen size increase from 4.5, though the brightness might increase. Maybe I said maybe speaker quality increase

New Features

I've heard no rumours about this, but what about live streaming video [ kinda tv-ish] basicaly it's got everthing!

Gig vs. Price

I agree drop the 8g replace with 16g and a new 96g or 128g is possible
16g 199$
32g 249$
64g 299$
96g [if so] 399$
128g[if so] 449$

Dream Ipod

Everbody knows about the famous ipod classic that started it all, well what if there was a feature [or an app] that let you veiw all your media on a ipod classic click wheel [like the touch screen displays an ipod classic click wheel and about half way up is the screen displayed in the format of the classic.] Everbody knows this feature ........ a [3mp atleast] camera!!!!!!!!, but not likely

Possibly New Itunes Features

At this point in time [though I've heard nothing about this on any rumour site] is that Itunes might add a new feature to their media Live streaming video that you could buy at the Itunes store is very possible. It which would be cool because instead reading the news on CNN.com you could watch it.

The Perfect iPod

I can see it now:

"The All New iPod Touch 128gb Just $199"

With 128gb of storage there is enough for a day, or a lifetime worth of entertainment.

The new rumble feature puts you in the game and allows you to feel what you see.

The new built in camera can record in full 1080p and take 14mp pictures, but you can also use it to control you iPod with just a swipe of your finger.

Where did the headphone jack go? You may have noticed something missing but dont worry, wireless bluetooth earbuds are included with every new iPod or use the included adapter for your favorite headphones.

Wireless sync: with wireless sync you no longer need a usb cable to sync to your computer or to charge. Just set iPod down near a computer or optional wall adapter and watch iPod charge and sync wirelessly just like magic. Also if your low on battery while on the go dont worry just hold iPod in your hand and it will charge through your body heat.

Since we eliminated all the open ports on iPod, it is now water proof so you no longer have to worry about getting stuck in the rain.

The new HD screen delivers a cinematic viewing expercience in the palm of your hand.

Speaker: the new built in speaker now delivers full 5.1 surround sound Dolby digital audio to put you in the movie.

gan6660 It might be in your dreams [lots of peoples too] but it will take decade to advance that much in technology and to price somthing like that that low, it's crazy! I personally think, by the time they do that, the Ipod touch will be dicontinued and replaced by some other new apple media device [which might take decades]:)

These are some of the features that are most likely going to be on the iPod Touch 4th Generation when it comes out in September 2010.

-3.5" 960x480 LED Backlit Screen
-The current iPhone 3GS's processor (ARM Cortex-A8 running @ 600MHz) The Apple A4 won't be one the iPod Touch probably until an update a few months after that on higher end models.
-512MB RAM (Up from 256MB of the current iPod Touch)
-New capacities (16GB for base model, 32GB, 64GB, and a high end 128GB)
-New Prices (16GB-$179, 32GB-$249 64GB-$349 128GB- $479
-5 Megapixel Camera w/ LED Flash (Same on the next gen. iPhone) (Most likely on the higher end models, low end model probably wont see this)
-No front facing camera (Probably won't see this)
-Bigger battery, better battery life by a little
-Built in microphone (On higher end models)
-Better speakers

Duh, the separating feature is that it is a frickin phone!

The touch will have a camera. In 6 months Apple will be facing war on all sides - Windows Phone 7, Android (already surpassed iPhone), Tablets with Android, and in a little bit tablets with WebOS - all with every bit of hardware and memory to make you spurge yourself. Apple knows its days of screwing the customer is over, time to compete.

it should have a front facing camera. not even a regular one, just a front facing camera.

For me to upgrade from my 1st gen touch it's going to need 128gb storage and a camera. Everything else is just a bonus.

Old school?

If the touch retains the original focus of the iPod -music- then a few innovations should make sense to meet increased user ssophistication
  • Better sound - DAC, sound chip, power to push better headhpones
  • Software - on the fly playlists, streaming support, genius, on device editing
  • Size - 128 at least, esp as more users go from tinny 128 mp3 to larger loss less formats
  • EQ- SRS, tuning by frequency range

Probably won't happen with such mass market product, but some of that should appeal to an audience

Not just the phone, a compass, and it misses out on some apps that solely the iPhone enjoys. Windows Phone 7 is not up-to-par at all versus Apple's current ecosystem of devices. Where's C,C&P? Tablets with WebOS is the interesting thing to look out for though.

I have made some revising changes to the list of what I think the Next iPod Touch is going to have in store for us.

-Released On September 7, 2010 with updated line of iPods
-3.5" (Same size) screen at 960x480 Resolution
-New Capacities And Prices 16GB-$199 32GB-$249 64GB-$349 128GB-479
-ARM Cortex-A8 600MHz CPU on 16GB model
-Apple A4 CPU running at a downscaled 800MHz or possibly 1GHz on 32GB, 64GB, 128GB
-256MB RAM on all models
-iPhone 3GS's camera (3.2 Megapixel w/auto focus & video) with added flash on 32,64,128 models
-Built in microphone on 32,64,128 models
-No front facing camera
-Redesigned body, same glossy screen, aluminum body with black apple logo, possibly a hair thicker, headphone jack on top
-Better speaker quality, and sound quality while using headphones
-We will probably also see improved Apple earbuds this year since Apple has made the newer ones for four years now

also add a built in mic

w/ new processor and graphics (never hurts)

FLASH

Camera

and pretty much what everyone else expects but hey I just bought a Ipod Touch 32GB

10 updated features that would seal the deal for me:

1. Screen Resolution increased to 960 x 640 (like the new iphone)

2. LED Screen (not Led backlit)

3. Increased battery life (9 hours video playback would make me soil myself)

4. Camera (either 3.2 mp or higher)

5. Built in Mic (to accommodate the camera and also make the ipod touch compatible with apps that require a mic... and also voice over without those stupid apple earphones)

6. Better sound quality (and i'm not talking earphones because we all know they will be useless)

7. Faster Wifi (seriously, any mac and even the ipad has much faster wifi. Correct me if I'm wrong)

8. Design change (something that closer resembles the new iphone. But really I don't mind as long as they get rid of the easily scratched back surface.)

9 FM Radio (cmon, the nano is winning!)

10. Faster processor and graphics + ram upgrade (gotta cope with multitasking)

That along with OS 4.0 would be fantastic
I would get an :apple: tattoo on my forehead

... seriously

Seriously?

I'm sure that the only updates to the iPod touch would be
Processor: a bump in performance

At best, there would be a front facing cam, but that'd be it.

Better sound - DAC, sound chip, power to push better headhpones

Most people buy ipods for usability and to have a cool device at the same time. I don't think sound quality will ever become a selling point from Apple's perspective but they make minor improvements with every update.

Software - on the fly playlists, streaming support, genius, on device editing

You already can make on the fly playlists but yea... the usability is wanting.

Size - 128 at least, esp as more users go from tinny 128 mp3 to larger loss less formats

128GB? A bit big for a starting point? Won't complain though. :)

EQ- SRS, tuning by frequency range

I really want a proper EQ too, the current one is absolutely awful in quality and the lack of user presets is almost archaic.

OK, first off, everybody is comparing the ssd in the desktops to the ones used in the ipod. While a 128 gb does cost around 400, those have around 250 read speed. Like an ipod really needs that much? Apple could cut that in half and the price would drop accordingly. So a 128 could easily go for 230. Then add other hardware and the final for 128 might be 450. Also, whats with the camera being the defining feature of the iphone? Yes, it is right now, but when both of these products are supposed to update, when they release os4, both will update at the same time. With the leaks of the prototypes I could say that the iphone might get a front facing camera. That would mean the ipod touch could get a single back facing without losing its individuality. Dont expect gps though. With the amount apple is looking into game development, i would say that A higher screen res is probable. I'd also look for improved accelerometer. The current are ok, but apple could easily update them and keep the same prices.
My opinions.

I don't think an iPod will get 128 GB of flash in this update. It would be too expensive. Flash prices are going up, not down.

LED/OLED won't happen, it will be the same 960x640 IPS display in the new iPhone.

I don't really see the purpose of a front-facing camera without 3G. A regular camera (or video-only camera like the Nano, if they don't have the room) is more likely.

I'd love a front facing camera with a little facial recognition app so I don't have to choose between entering a security code all the time or leaving my Touch open to theft.

I know the odds are just slightly above zero for the software, but it would be nice.

i dont think that they will add a camera on the next ipod, this is because they have the iphone with:

-a microphone
-a camera
ect

but those are the main differences portable wise between the iphones and the ipods if they put that on an ipod the company is afraid that they will lose their buisness with the iphone, which even though i dont think would, it still could happen.

yes i do agree they should have everything you guys say they should (besides for the 128G ipod) but it is a matter of selling the most they can of both the ipod and and iphone so do i think they will add a camera, no. BUT that is my opinion and they might just do so, we'll just have to see what happens in the next 6 months.

:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

You know, if they put a SD slot, Apple could just sell one version of the iPod Touch, with just a really small amount of internal memory and the users could add their own memory by putting in a SD card.

Apple is just about the last company in existence to miss out on revenue, so if they did add external storage, they would probably release the "iCard", or something like that, which would work the same as SD, MiniSD, MicroSD, MemoryStick, MemoryStick Duo, MemoryStick Pro Duo, CF, MMC, SmartMedia, xD, etc. The "iCard", or whatever it would be called, would be only sold by Apple, and cost about $200 for a 32GB.

New Touch?

September.
IPS screen, 3.5" 960 x 640.
Front camera at least, for facetime app.
Gyroscope to support new iOS apps.
Case similar in style to the new iPhone.

They didn't announce one at WWDC for fear of tanking sales of current Touch.

If they get this in the touch I'll likely get one. Add the rear facing camera from the iPhone and stand alone GPS and it's a done deal.

16 gig for 199
thats really all i want also fm radio but that wont happen
if i can get the new i touch with 16 gigs at 199 i would sell my ZUNE HD
